Jon
That last one is quite nice. How is that different to "ambient"? Some of it can be described as ambient, it's more just a way of thinking about creating electronic music rather than a specific sound imo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tv8Se8xSMiw
Yoshi
That last one is quite nice. How is that different to "ambient"? I agree that one's more James Blake-ish. But the drums have shuffle, it's not simple four-to-the-floor like gabber or techno.

broma
Not to piss on the party but when I started getting into this stuff around 2007 it seemed like exciting times but to me at least there's been nothing in a while that's really blown me away. Hudson Mo's Heeters was awesome but he hasn't done anything since that touches it imo. Same with Rustie, Jagz the Smack, Bad Science, Zig Zag all heat then since, not really my thing anymore. Same with Fly Lo, beat tapes & LA period I loved but since not really feeling it. There's still some nice stuff but it all seems a bit inconsistent to me. Just my personal taste of course Safe for the boomkat link yoshi, will have to check that, looks interesting. Good thread idea hopefully you guys can introduce me to some new shit Here's some I'm liking recently anyway... Guy gets called some silly genre titles but this fits in to my earshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zexO87JTBnIhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMOcfiopJrshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HomdxhyP7g

broma
Ha, yea it's a bit of daft name. His stuff is very same-y but some tracks are killer. How the fuck do I embed youtube vids?!
Jon
You just paste the full youtube url Check all Om Unit's stuff. Rustie's new album (came out this week), is really good, but is VERY colourful. It's quite different to his Jagz the Smack release.

rchecka
Hoptronica? That's not really a thing, is it? I know dabrye and a few others mentioned so I get the premise, but Hoptronica? I thought it was called glitch hop.
Jon
Probably one of the sickest tunes of 2011 so far. Sounds like Tipper And bad Tipper at that. There's tonnes of this stuff about and it does nothing for me I'm afraid. Tipper's early stuff was great but it spawned a load of poor imitators. It's kind of the reason I don't like jump up dubstep/dnb, because everyone takes the same idea and just tries to make it more and more technical. Sorry Yoshi
Jon
Hoptronica? That's not really a thing, is it? I know dabrye and a few others mentioned so I get the premise, but Hoptronica? I thought it was called glitch hop. See my earlier post I've never heard anyone brand it that way before. I'd refer to Tipper as glitch hop because it suits the sound he was making around the time he made 'Tip-Hop', but it doesn't suit the vast majority of the music being made at the moment. There isn't and shouldn't be a genre name. It's not like there is a specific set of rules that define the genre. Drum and Bass, for example, is instantly recognisable as drum and bass because of its tempo (or tempo range to be more precise) and signature drum patterns, even if the sound and styles of arrangement and production within the genre is really diverse. There aren't any universal features within this type of music, (without sounding like a hippie) it's more of a shared consciousness about being free from constraints and avoiding popular conventions in music.
