rchecka
Name some *chick bands that you think are ayite. Any genre except Hip Hop. *chick bands - female vocalist with backing musicians comprised of either sex. I'll start. the Breeders - Last Spash I'm pumped that I found a nice repress of this. I remember owning this on CD back in the grunge years. In hindsight, I feel like I slept on it back then. Just got done listening to Lali Puna - Faking the Books

jopa.
went through my ipod and only two bands with female singers celebration and the patience. the patience are a group of highschool girls from dekalb illinois who made an ep back in '08; pretty solid pop rock stuff. celebration is an indie all star type band from new york. not like hard rocking, but really fucking cool and groovy. lots of r&b and soul, but i guess the girls dont do the rock thing too well... patti smith comes to mind and blondie i guess. rchecka
^I don't think anyone will argue those are staples. Here's a chick band that I absolutely adore, and rarely see their releases floating around. Since I got their album "Happy" years ago I've been hooked. File under: Japanese Dream Pop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j996hfmfKeU ^This band is very chill out oriented, best be in "that mood" before understanding this. rchecka
I absolutely despise the Cranberries. Her strong accent pisses me off every time I hear her sing. "Do you have to, do you have to, Do you have to let it Lingerrrrrrrr?" She lets her r's linger too much when she sings linger.Don't even get me started on how horrible of a song "Zombie" is either. "Zombay, zombay, zombay-ay ay ay oh oh oh" What the hell is that?! Yodeling??? Ughh. Sorry, I just passionately hate them, no offense of course, doppelkorn. I remember owning this on CD back in the grunge years. In hindsight, I feel like I slept on it back then. The Breeders kick ass. So does Portisehead (one of Jon's picks). Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos are OK I guess but never really feelin it. Eurythmics is OK too. Garbage I could never get into. What about bands with multiple "lead" singers like the B-52s? Their first album was amazing. Here are some I like: Blonde (her best song IMO) The Waitresses (the also have the best Christmas song ever-- "Christmas Wrapping") Divinyls Shakespear Sister

djdiggla
Most of my chick band songs are guilty pleasures too. And I have crushes on most of the singers too. Some other obvious pics are Bjork, Fleetwood, Janis Joplin. Frankee (I more like the video) Sophie B. Hawkins Patti Smith ESG (I love UFO but no vocals)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOgmf_Vb8S0&feature=related

djdiggla
Sugarcubes is good (Bjork) and she had two prior bands too that are good.I liked Basia as a kid, but it's pretty dated sounding now. 4 Non Blondehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOgmf_Vb8S0&feature=related Annie Lennox Tom Tom Clubhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xv87iUjrJn0 Sonic Youth There are a few others but I don't want to clog up the thread too much with my pics.
