Steve
A faulty stick of RAM maybe? Are you installing the stick of RAM in place of the 256MB or in addition to it? If it's the latter, maybe you're over the limit of the supported memory. Also, what is the version of the BIOS? On Crucial's site it says to make sure you have at least version A02 before upgrading. BIOS? i did the msinfo32 thing and Bios is Dell Computer Corporation A03, 01/03/2002i assume this is ok then is it?? not sure obviously if its faulty just yet or anything... cheers for the suggestions..... its taken me about 2 years to finally buy some ram for this fucker... $a!n+
Make sure the RAM is in order. Sometimes on certain mother boards and Bios, you have to seat the RAM from smallest to biggest. And make sure the ram is seated correctly in it's slot and latched down securely. I would try switching the order of the RAM sticks.
