flowerpot
I love external HDD's. That comp is quite old and probably just bogged down by all the old shit sitting on it. You can buy the external, transfer data to external, do a fresh install on the puter, and see if it runs a bit quicker. Then if not, go buy a new one. There's a bunch of scenarios of how this could be dealt with, however.

flowerpot
I have 4, go for one that doesn't have a internal fan, 'cos that shit is noisy. Make sure the material is that stuff that stays nice and cool, that silver material, otherwize they're all pretty generic. I have 2 Canyons and a Vantec and another model, all good. flowerpot
Nice bro, word of advice, after it's been on for 1 hour or so put your hand to it and make sure it's not too hot. If it is kinda warm, just be more conscious about leaving it on for long periods. I'm sure they designed the enclosure fine though, it's just 500gb runs hotter than an 80gb or 260gb.Cheers

Paul_Caruso
There's a guy on eBay that sells new Lacie drives - they usually go for ~£50 for a 250 gig and they are heavy duty drives. Failing getting a Glyph (about 5 times the price) they're one of the best drives you can store your shit on. USB, Firewire 400 & 800. x2k
Phology, just looking at your specs I'd say spend a couple of quid and get another 256mb or more of ram...if your computer is running slowly that will make a big difference I reckon...probably only cost about £20-£30 too. flowerpot
Ifyou wanna increase the RAM, go to the puter store and buy a 512MB DDR400 stick, open side panel, put stick in RAM slot, close side panel and start PC, check to see that total RAM has increased by 512MB.
