Rockbox for iPods and other MP3 players

Recommended Posts

This almost makes iPods worth buying. Amongst other things, it adds support for FLAC and Ogg Vorbis files, plus gapless playback which is always useful.

You can install it on iRiver, iAudio, Archos and iPod players.

out of interest steve what do you think is better value than an ipod? i was looking at some of the superior alternatives, but have pretty much been bowled over by the price of the ipods... i'm too skint to afford one anyway... unless you know about some £20 gem of an oem make?!

wow, nice find!

btw..there is an alternative for iPods: iPodLinux

i tested the alpha version on my 4G which was ok, some bugs really sucked though...

they developed a whole bunch of software for iPods, like iNes, a nintendo emulator and added a lot of functions like ogg & Flac support, gapless playing and so on.

edit: after a look into the manual...well Rockbox seems to be more advanced than iPodLinux - apart from the feature that iPodLinux lets you coose if you you want to boot in Apples OS or in Linux anytime you reboot..
