Because they run Parallels and have both OS. And Linux via Fink/Darwinports too. Beside OSX / BSD Unix M$ has to pay better to get able journalists for Mac bashing.

hm, i tried it too but found it pretty easy. Within one month i was doing (slow!) chirps, 1 and 2 click flares and even twiddles. But i returned to the left turntable because i noticed that most flow comes out of the fader movement - so its better to have the strong hand there. But thats just my impression.

Im using the QuickTime player (pro) to record. With QTpro (PM for Key) go preferences -> recording for that kind of settings.

I doubt that its that risky. Its another piece in their "digital life experience" and fits well into their product portfolio. Apple has 3 nearly independet businesses today: iTunes Music Store, the iPod and their classic PC business. The iPhone and AppleTV are two more to come. If one fails they will burn a significant amount of money - but that wont kill them. Btw: Apple has made a product like this before: the Newton. In relation it was even a lot more riskier because it was the first PDA at all. And even the failure of that didnt kill Apple.
