  1. dope loop mono. i think the 'new sound' is officiallly in, and ric's smart for painting it as his own. cuts are pretty nice too...
  2. is the whine possibly your mixer not isolating line/phono properly rather than torq- have you tried pulling out the phono ins to the mixer to see if it's still there? the distortion sounds like sometimes i manage without quite knowing how to turn the gain up to max on a track on scratchlive. there's not an internal shortcut that you might be inadvertently pressing to change gain/switch input amplification is there? as far as the second channel being dead goes, that doesn't sound good at all :S i was thinking about swapping ssl for torq to save some cash and get some effects and midi... glad i didn't now to be honest- more torq problems coming out of the woodwork than ssl or fs, it seems.
  3. if it's dvi then it's pretty much outputting the best it can, although you might be able to get a colour profile for it off a disc it came with/the website or something? if not, perhaps try adobe gamma, that takes you through all the bits and bobs and gets you to fiddle with your display's contrast, brilliance, etc, until everything's as neutral as you're going to get... i walk past this thing called 'the carrot' at work every day, supposedly absolutely corrects your monitor to print. comes with quark xpress i think. you hang it in front of your monitor and it does its magic. my monitor has a bug in it and unless it's been lazing about for 2 weeks, it's definitely dead. four years i've had it and it's been perfect. i was disproportionately devastated for the scale of the problem...
  4. that's the edu license- which gives you the full version but will only allow point release upgrade opportunities (and not even those if, for instance, they add a grip of new stuff to 7.whatever and decide they want people to pay for it), so to be honest for the £280 it'll set you back it's hardly worth it (especially seeing as those whispering rumours about a new version getting ready for release soon after leopard are getting louder and louder)- i was talking to a few other people about logic pro and apparently when i got it there was a couple of people in the office doing the retail for education price, so i got cheaper than standard student discount on retail should have been- i'd try regardless- and also consider spending the extra £50 for the retail from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Apple-Logic-Pro-7-2-...1QQcmdZViewItem however, before you do anything i'd ring your college and get them to give you some advice bro. they might have a group buy planned for the new intake, not to mention the fact they may well be prepared to buy it on your behalf and save you the vat.
  5. try apple direct for logic. i got the full retail for £280. failing that try ebay, bnib logic pro can be as cheap as £350 nowadays too...
  6. my friend kwes produced on my own for park bench poet and it's one of the most brilliantest songs i ever heard. very recommended.
  7. that's the best they could come up with?! seriously? that is fucking shite. now instead of searching around going 'it's one of these white keys' you presumably go 'it's one of these bile yellow keys', until you memorise the positions by touch. and realise you've pissed £30 up the wall. .......seriously, i'm staring at this in disbelief. that's about as much use as a chocolate teapot
  8. both dope mate. a flag called bang is especially fresh and has inspired me to try some different time signatures myself...
  9. the price tag on those is a bit steep for me- i had a look at the motu 828mkII which dolphin has a good deal on, and also am thinking about the implications of buying 2 maya44s, they'd be very cheap but no mic preamp is a bit of a shame. something like the delta 1010lt and things like that looks quite cool, but i have a laptop (hence the original qu). cheers for the suggestions though fellas
  10. anybody know if anything like this exists? off the top of my head it seems like bandwidth wise usb2/firewire could cope with even quite hefty pci cards... (i'm looking around for an 8 in soundcard)
  11. aye, the graphics chip is fine for previous gen games- ie pretty much anything that came out during ps2 and xbox's reign. at least, that's what i've experienced with mine (although i don't really play games on it), and the one you're looking at is slightly better. it will also, though, support a second monitor running at at least 1280x1024 (that's what i do, i can't remember the max res it supports though)- can't see whether the laptop has a 2nd monitor output on it however...
  12. it's very similar to my macbook in spec, and the speed of my macbook is great. (on windows xp too, although i uninstalled it). 13" widescreens are dope too, have a lovely clarity. the most important thing with a laptop (imo) is build quality and key/pad feel though, seeing as it's a vaio it's probably going to be great but if there's one in stock in a local pc world it might be worth having a gander first. looks like a great deal though...
  13. i have a list of things i want to buy when i have money that doesn't have to go on rent/buying the right and means to drive- you've made the cut bruv also, i don't know exactly what i did expect, but i did not expect diggla to sound like that!
  14. scratchlive has crashed once on me in about 500 hours use, probably about 2000 of being turned on and having audio going through it, and that was when i did something stupid, i think i was unplugging a second monitor at the same time as switching usb ports and it all got a bit much for it. i wouldn't have the balls to use anything that had even a hint of instability anywhere except my house, but if it was safe enough to use then being able to take a midi controller along and truly perform with the sampler and effects etc rather than just play records at a gig would be infuckingcredible.
  15. just having a browse through the demos on the site and it looks fucking brilliant mate, i wonder whether scratchlive will become the technics of the dvs world, ie the old faithful, or whether it will indeed get pushed to the wayside by the new kids on the block... what i'm saying is if torq can prove 100% stable then i'll be *sorely* tempted to trade ssl in. all that extra stuff you can do looks like the absolute nuts.
  16. ah nice one fellas, i won't remove azureus just yet then. it just winds me up how unstable it is... looks as though transmission is going to be my first choice and azureus plan b, at least. paaayce
  17. just a wee heads up to OSx peoples... only just found out about transmission and after a quick look and torrent on the download, it absolutely SHITS on azureus. it runs *much* faster, more streamlined, and more stable. even shows your dl/ul speed on its dock icon. http://transmission.m0k.org/
  18. really enjoyed this bro. really tight all over
  19. lol. i remember getting £35 for 50 uk garage 12"s a couple of years ago. to be fair half of em were standard fare but there were some real rare whites and picture disc gems in there, i just didn't really know at the time.
  20. cheers matt i'll get to it. some of em are a bit odd to be honest and most are probably worth very little but thought it might be worth a shot.
  21. Very Gay and Not Metro it's about the quality of the record and sleeve, vg = very good, and nm = near mint. there's a proper definition somewhere... hold on that's the most comprehensive guide i've found yet actually (from musicstack, cheers waxon - see you're not completely useless ). although i did see one once that told you the percentage of the collectors mint price that each is worth. so yeah according to that version, i have a few NM, quite a few VG++ and a lot of VG+ that i could happily let go. i have found quite a cool site called popsike.com which is an easy way to search what's gone through ebay over the past few months, but most of the stuff i've tried so far isn't on there...
  22. so i'm in dire need of some income, and i was thinking i must have 50 or so vg+ and nm records that are absolutely useless to me, i don't like the music and they've got no good samples on them. i know you can buy a book with the values of all the rock and pop releases of the past however many years, but is there somewhere online i can find them? the majority of them are kinda weird, extremely specialist and niche stuff, too, so i don't know if i'd be able to find em there. i'd just put em on ebay if it weren't for the fact that every single one would need to go for a few quid to even make a couple of pounds against the listing/paypal/etc fees... and with them being weird i don't know whether they'd get spotted by anyone who wanted em. anyone any clues?
  23. trusay. my xbox chip has a backup slot for the eeprom that you fill with a working bios and then no matter what happens to fuck it up there's a poweron button sequence that reflashes to it. more things should have those, if they were legit then you wouldn't even have to worry about loading it in the first time
  24. if i were you i'd get 3 now if you can afford it- it's sunk much cheaper than the original rrp and there are some great bundle deals with it, whereas the new version will start off more expensive so you probably won't spend any extra, and you'll get to use 3 until 4 comes out (and it's a lot better than 2.5 and a lot lot better than 2.0)
