  1. Is the premise to play music or to play mixes here? I could play good music in a mix perhaps once- I don't have many records nor are my mixing skills that hot, but I'm sure I could play hours of stuff people could listen to with a bit of 'hello!' in between...? c
  2. sounds quite fun, how long are the sets and when would they be? c
  3. Alrite mate, look forward to hearing it. Giz a bell when u fancy a cut... c
  4. If a person who owns rights to a sample hears your record, you might have a problem if they can find a way to contact you and think you're worth any money, basically. Weigh up how likely that is to happen against the cost of clearing samples. You can pay a company to do all the legwork for you, I can't remember the names of any such ppl but they're pretty fair... c
  5. I'm another one who can't see the fuss about Halo- I don't even see why ppl spuff over the gfx? Project Snowblind is a better game with better graphics imo. I think it's more likely that Halo2 will be rereleased for the 360 with hella nice gfx and then Halo3 will be brought out to take the wind out of Sony's sails for the PS3 launch.
  6. I don't have enough space at my parents' house to keep all the stuff I acquired since being at uni, it gets worse offscreen... c
  7. There's still menus and lots of stuff to understand on an mpc, but the screen's a lot smaller! I don't use one or really know much about them tho so that's all there is for me to say on hardware... Reason comes with amazing documentation and tutorials, as long as you read and go through the tuts in order (it's really tempting to skip straight to the lessons that sound most interesting but don't!) then you'll get a solid basic grasp of what does what, how and why it does it within a week- then you can start trying to figure out how to get the sounds out of your head and into the sequencer. The only other thing I can think to note is that reason doesn't support audio recording (or vsts, but the whole point of reason is that it's an all in one piece of software, and its native effects/instruments are on the money for the most part), so for sampling or tracking vocals you'll need to pair it up with something like Adobe Audition- and in a perfect world Recycle. That's my setup, with Live4 added to taste (I have no probs with it btw) and I find it intuitive, quick, economic on resources and fun to use... c
  8. I just had a look to find out what that Trigger Finger is- it looks nice the Akai MPD16 is cheaper though, although it only has one fader and no pots. I'm saving up for a Korg MicroKontrol which has pads on it as well as 3 octave kb (2/3 size keys), a transport panel and 8 faders and 8 infinite rotation pots, rrps at £180 but sometimes goes for as little as £120 on ebay... They're all MIDI based so they'll all work with fl- any software that supports General MIDI will be able to use them. They may or may not come with a template for fl though, if not you'd have to a) find one, there's probably one knocking about somewhere online, or b) make your own- which is easy, usually you click the function that you want to map and select 'midi learn' and then press the key/twiddle the pot etc, basically that's it. hth c c
  9. Reason's great- 3cds though (although the demo's tiny, and worth a look)- you will get a pdf manual with it and the online help is also very good. It can be difficult to get to grips with production, with any method, but when you understand the concepts you'll find they're the same no matter what software/hardware you use. You probably won't make anything particuarly hot for a while, no matter what you use. Like everything it just takes practice so the software you decide on is really more down to personal taste- whatever you find allows you to work quickest... c
  10. For complex rhyming, Pharoe Monch. For good flow, Rodney P, for light humoured flows Dirty Diggers. Plus, just to plug us a bit, Bradley has stupid complex multi flow and some deep lyrics... http://soundclick.com/bradleytfr c
  11. Just as something to do, could I submit a skin for approval?! I'm not a big fan of dark schemes on sites... Applied is definitely my favourite skin so far but it's a shame only the default skin is the one with the mouseover preview- that's a truly great time and space saving feature imo c
  12. Thanks for replying to this matt - I'm starting to love this forum already! If anyone wants to get in touch my skype is decisive_aka_c and my msn is decisive@mailshack.com thanks too Steve, yeah the 'best' of the cuts do start as it fades out, it's not a showoff track really I just wanted to try some multitracked arrangement in the chorus (especially as the new sample record I got has the word 'vibe' in it!) but I couldn't resist sneaking a bit in at the end- if you've got it turned up loud you'll hear me start to really get into it in the last two bars I'll be doing some tracks just for me soon, so I'll get a chance to get some hard cuts down hardish, anyway- I'll keep practicing! c
  13. Hey all, the cuts are a bit basic and pants, but I just finished this for my man Bradley- it's called My Vibe. www.soundclick.com/bradleytfr Would be nice to know what yous think, and anyone wants to hook up? cheers c
  14. Whilst the subject is on the audio engine of the software, just thought I'd add incase anyone didn't already know that when you rewire, the slave program uses the master program's audio engine- so the weaker audio engine in Reason becomes a null point c
  15. Just starting the dl ripple- BIG thanks for the heads up, I'm starting to owe this board big! c
  16. This looks like it could be horrible. But then, JSR was great and Talib Kweli doesn't tend to do things just for a cheque, so maybe it'll be pretty good... unless it goes xbox though I'll never know
  17. I did the same but i had the shure weight on the headshell, i realised i was literally burning a drum part as i was drumming it... c
  18. This might seem a little weird but I'd like to see animations and interactivity with the gui and stuff- something to make loopers stand out more from just looping a beat in winamp... c
  19. Damn this cd looks nice! c
  20. I just plain suck at switching hands, it feels really uncomfortable. It's getting a bit easier now I'm practicing juggling though, I'm hoping that it'll drill it into me slowly but surely... c
  21. I use Reason to make beats, along with Audition and Recycle for sampling. When I'm done with the beat and it's ready for cuts and vocals I rewire to Ableton Live and carry on from there. I use Izotope Ozone as a mastering plug. Oh, I use an Evolution 149 too, it's just a 49 key MIDI kb. Wish I had a MicroKontrol though! I remember when all this lovely music software wasn't about and u had to export loops as audio from standalone softsynths! I used to use Buzz back in the day... when it worked c
