  1. You can surf astalavista safely enough if you have decent virus protection and a firewall. BTW, have you checked the iso you donwloaded? Sometimes there is a folde in the iso itself labelled 'crack', which has the crack in it. Either that or it's written in the .nfo file.
  2. There's a good PC Engine / TurboGrafx emu on the PSP.
  3. In a nutshell, compression is all about making the softer stuff louder, and the louder stuff softer ie it COMPRESSES the sound. The overall effect is that there's less dynamic variation in the sound, so you can boost the volume without getting clipping or distortion -> your shit sounds louder, but not distorted.
  4. I always liked Babu's style. Nice cuts and juggles. Shortkut is also dope, plus he's a party rocker (and I guess I better mention Vin Roc and Apollo)

    WISP

    Shit that's pretty cool.
  6. Videora That's what I use to encode my files. Then I use iTunes to transfer them over (import the vids to iTunes 1st, then just drag across to your iPod)
  7. Hmmm...yes and no. It literally is a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. It's too big to be an mp3 player. UMDs aren't exactly cheap, and you'll need a large mem stick if you want to encode your own video. The screen is fucking niiiiice though. But the biggest problem I find is the lack of storage space. That's why I end up watching more vids on my iPod than my PSP - I just encode a whole bunch of stuff and stick it on the pod. That way it's always there whenever I need it. With the PSP, you have to choose a few vids, load em up, and take em with you. But then it leaves no room for other stuff on your PSP. Battery life ain't too hot either, but then no portable video players have decent battery life. The games are getting better and better though. Right now I'm hooked on NBA Live 06, doing all the superstar challenges. Before that, it was Virtua Tennis, Ridge Racer, Lumines and Everybody's Golf. I'm still deciding if I want to do the whole upgrade/downgrade firmware just to play GTA:LCS.
  8. It's just a 'Hello World' at this stage. Apparently it lets you do even less than the TIFF exploit found in 2.0 firmware! Something about user mode vs kernel mode........ Although I'm betting they will get a downgrader working out of this soon-ish.
  9. ^^ But it's also Dell making it so that you *have* to buy one of their power supplies.
  10. Set phasers on stun! [/Liam]
  11. Couldn't they just use the battery life indicator so they know when it's more than half charged? I'm not calling you a liar BTW mate, cos I was just repeating what I'd read elsewhere, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible for them to do stealth upgrades if they wanted to. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, I don't see why they *couldn't* do it, but AFAIK, upgrading has so far been a voluntary thing. Firmware 2.50 and 2.60 were only released as a fix to the exploit found in the 2.0 firmware. The only way they could stealth upgrade you was if they put it on a UMD game or movie, but these firmwares are still to new to have been included with the latest games. Back when 2.0 was released, games were still only shipping with the 1.51 or 1.52 upgrade on it. You can upgrade your firmware over the network feature, but that requires your WiFi to be on.
  12. About the PSPs Yes, you'll need a version 2.0 firmware'd PSP to get isos and homebrew running on it. And technically, you can only do this if you downgrade to version 1.5. At the moment there are also versions 2.01, 2.50 and 2.60 of the firmware. I don't know if any PSPs are shipping with firmware greater than 2.0 installed now though, but I'm sure they will soon, so I'd get one as soon as you can. (It's the reason I imported mine from Japan back in the pre-2.0 hack days). And there has never been 'stealth upgrading' of PSP firmware - you need to have greater than 50% battery charge and have your PSP plugged in in order to upgrade as it is. If a stealth upgrade was to be performed, and your battery runs out half way, you could end up bircking your PSP, and I don't think Sony want any (more) lawsuits. There's currently no way to play an iso of GTA:Liberty Stories, so you'll need both an original copy of the game and 2.0 firmware (doesn't work on v1.5) There are a few other games like that too, but they are slowly getting cracked. You'll need a big enough mem stick to run full game isos too - 1Gb as a minimum, but nowadays the 2Gb stick aren't too expensive. You can also get iso rips if your mem stick is not big enough. Emulators and roms don't need much space though - you can have a nice enough collection of roms and emulators on the 32Mb card. You can get the isos and files at the usual BT places.
  13. lol @ Brewster's Millions. That movie was dope. RIP Richard Pryor.
  14. Nah, my collection is shit. I don't want to get shamed out by the proper game nerds.

    XBOX Modding ish?

Yeah you can run a lot (not all) N64 ROMs on it at full, or very nearly full speed. The emulator itself is constatnly being refined though (albeit at a slow pace). And I don't know if having a full hard drive will screw it up, although I'm guessing it won't. Unlike WinXP, the XBox OS is quite streamlined and doesn't take much resources, so it doesn't need hard drive space as much as a computer. The original HD is only 8GB, so it can't need that much.
  16. I bust out the odd emulator. I used to be really anal about keeping my MAME Rom set updated. I gave up at about 0.98. My latest emulation platform is my PSP - SNES emulation is coming along really nicely on that.
  17. There's predictions going around that the XBox360 is going to go the way of the Dreamcast. People were waiting for the PS2 when the Dreamast was released, based on rumours that the PS2 would stomp all over the Dreamcast (it didn't, IMO - the DC isn't that much techinically inferior to the PS2) And now, people are waiting for the PS3 over getting an X360 now, because the PS3 is supposedly much more powerful. I'll probably end up getting both eventually. The one I get first will be based on whichever one get hacked first (Let's face it, how many of us got Dreamcasts as soon as the boot disc got released? I did. ANd then I got a PS2 only when I could get it modded. Then there was the PSP, which I got not long after the first iso launchers got released. Yarrrrrr!!!111)

    XBOX Modding ish?

I got a chipped Xbox with a 200GB hard drive, and it's connected to my home network (and hence the net). It kicks ass. The hard drive is also full to the brim with ROMs and emulators, movies and TV programs, (but not htat many XBox games, funnily enough).

    LCD TVs?

HDTV is just the screen resolution, it's not the technology that actaully produces the picture. You can get HDTV CRT monitors, plasma and LCD. Technically, we're all staring at HDTV screens now. BUt yeah, I see your point about the screen quality. It's almost like a moving digital photograph. i remember sitting in a department store in Canada 3 years ago, watching a HDTV demo... gorgeous picture.

    LCD TVs?

FOr £800 you could get quite a nice Plasma of LCD screen. Yeah, he's definitely going to want HDTV capabilites, but be careful here as there's actually 3 different 'levels' of HDTV. The lowest is 720P, then there's 1080i and 1080P. Obviously 720P has the lowest resolution (don't know it off the top of my head), and 1080i is worse than 1080p. The i and p stand for interlaced and progressive scan. Interlaced screens skip out every second line, so you obviously get a fuller picture with progressive scan. There's also 2 different types of connectors - DVI (like in computer monitors) and HDMI (the newer standard, which is backwards compatible) - get HDMI for future-proofing. Then you have to decide on Plasma vs LCD. Most articles I have read seem to think Plasma has the better picture, contrast, refresh rate, etc, but most of those articles were quite old (about 1-2 yrs old). There was some issues with screen burn-in (eg the SKy logo in the corner) with Plasma screens as well. I can't recommend any brands, but I see Samsung screens around a lot - they seem to be quite popular and always seem to have a pretty good picture.
  21. Google makes it's money from advertising. You know, those sponsored links on the right hand side and the top of every search you do. And they also raised a lot of funds by going public, and seeling off shares in the company. Fuck knows how Firefox makes money though. I guess it's also through adverstising somewhere, but I can't see where.
  22. I get on it every now and then, so make sure you add me. I'm kinda busy right now though - got some course work to do for a diploma I'm doing, so I'll be occupied for the next 2 weeks. BUt after that, I'll be down for some cuttage.
  23. Mate, how could you lose that loop! It's your best loop yet, IMO.
  24. haha, i used to do that as well! Until a flatmate of mine said that it looked like I was trying to hump the turntables. I stopped once I discovered the joys of scratching while sitting down.
