  1. Haha ^^ Nah, I'm just taking a 'softly softly' approach for the first few days, particularly when I'm not sure if my PSU is going to handle all my components stably. I'm going to start tweaking the RAM, OCing the gfx card, and maybe OCing my CPU as well (but only on stock cooling, so maybe not)
  2. Yes agreed. So I did it  ! Just slowly installing all the bits and bobs now. Things are defintely running MUCH smoother, the hard disc isn't making as much noise / seeking as much. I'm just loathe to install more stuff on here as it's probably just going to slowly slow my system down... but there's stuff I need!
  3. I'm typing this from my newly put-together PC... AMD Athlon64 3200+ MSI K8N Neo Platinum MOBO Crucial Ballistix 512MB PC4000 RAM (2.5-4-4-8) Antec Sonata Case Antec 380W Truepower PSU (+3.3V = 28A, +5V= 35A, +12V = 18A) Hightech IceQ Radeon 9800 Pro Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM HDD 2MB cache Maxtor 40GB 5200RPM HDD 2MB cache Pioneer 106D DVD+/-RW (4x DVD burner) Liteon 482412s CD-RW (48x CD burner) Relisys 17" CRT Monitor (probably next thing to be upgraded) WinXP Pro SP2 I tried to do a sneaky thing and swap the HDD around, and do a 'Repair Installation' on XP, but it wouldn't let me boot into the final stage of the install- I got 4 BSODs trying, and freaked out, thinking I installed something wrong! I had to do a clean install, but I stupidly forgot to format C: , so all my Program Files are still cluttering up my C:, and shit's defragmented to hell probably. I might to a format and another install tonight... Everythings running stock speed at the moment too - I've yet to do any tweaking, but I'm sure I'll get around to it once I know everything is stable at stock speeds at least.
  4. Well, I prefer having a CD-RW drive for burning CDs, so I don't wear out my DVD burner (stupid, I know, but it's just me). And how much of a drain on the PSU is a FDD anyway? Especially if it's not spinning? I thought they were passive.
  5. Yeah, the Clawhammer core CPU is rarer than hens teeth. They've stopped producing them, so everywhere is sold out. And I've also already got the PC4000 RAM sitting in my grubby little hands! It was the first thing to arrive (thanks to Crucial.com's excellent service). Parcelforce have also literally *just* delivered my MOBO and CPU too. Just checked the CPU - it's definitely a Newcastle core, with CG stepping.
  6. Yeah, it's still the same components as I said before... Antec Sonata Case Antec 380W Trupower PSU MSI K8N Neo Platinum MOBO AMD Athlon64 3200+ (Newcastle core only, with the 512kb L2 cache) 512MB Crucial Ballistix PC4000 RAM (your recommendation) Hightech IceQ Radeon 9800 Pro (another one of your recommendations!) and I'll be sticking in, from my current setup 120GB Maxtor 7200RPM HDD 2MB Cache 40GB Maxtor 5200RPM HDD Pioneer 106 DVD+/-RW 4x burner Liteon 482412s CD-RW 17" CRT monitor and my floppy drive, just for good measure.
  7. I just came back from the Apollo, it was a pretty good night overall. I agree with most of what you said in your post Sigma, except I thought that Blakey's set wasn't particularly great. His no-look back to back, corss-faderless juggle was the most memorable part. I enjoyed I-Emerge's set - definitely the stand-out set of the night, IMO. Rafik's set, I can't really remember. I was slightly suprised he came 2nd, let alone thinking he was robbed for 1st. I dunno, maybe my brain switched off for a while during his set. (Battles *can* be extremely boring and drawn out, don't ya think...?!) And in defence of my fellow countryman, I think Manchoo did a pretty good job. I'll leave it at that...

I;m about to go back for the Finals. Blakey only came in 11th in the Elinimations. Hopefully he's saving his best for last. I-Emerge came 1st. (The NZ DJ, Manchoo came 12th, so at least my home-town guy gets through to the finals! hehe)
  9. Apparently XBOX2 is going to have NO BIOS, so as to make it 'unchhippable'. Dunno how that's supposed to work. Gamecube warez is booted off a data cable, through the broadband adapter, off your PC, AFAIK. But I have seen 8cm DVD-R's around, so maybe that's how you do it now. DC still rocks. PS2 still rocks - it's all about the musi...erm...games...! XBOX - where else are you going to get a Media Center for £99, plus some extra for the chip & HDD. And if that PVR thing is true (never heard about it before), then I might have to consider getting one, PS3 & XBOX2, IMO are probably not worth getting at least for a year after their release. New consoles are always waaay overpriced - just wait til you can pick one up for under £200, at least. AND hopefully, I'll finally have a proper 'gaming-quality' PC come early next week! Look out Far Cry, Doom 3 & HL2...
  10. You're not the only one! Dee's 'gloating' / raving about the A64 made me get one too! I've got a A64 3200, new MOBO, new case & PSU, new GFX and new RAM coming (hopefully) early next week. Should be a nice upgrade from my existing set-up.
  11. I remember reading somewhere about the way the X-Box 'sees' HDDs... apparently there is an upper limit of about 120GB. You can stick a 160GB HDD in there, but there's more tweaking involved, AFAIK.
  12. Isn't it the apple logo? It's a pretty popular theme, the old Mac-on-Windows look.
  13. Dee you photoshop whiz, you.
  14. Does FS allow you to run mutiple decks (ie more than 2)?
  15. It means that it's the best NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 card available (as denoted by the 'SE') It's not a particularly grunty card though, as there's the FX 5900 also available, which is a part of that generation.
  16. I think I saved it as a round image... not sure though. But it's got a white background in any case...
  17. YouSendIt comes to the rescue again.
  18. So you got it now? I'm in the middle of upping it to yousendit. I also made the file seekable, so you can skip through it, so hang tight for a bit and I'll post the link.
  19. Took a bit of messing about, but I got it. I managed to save a few 1kb wmv files, and one of em had this link in it mms://a238.v28002.c2800.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/238/2800/v001/mos.download.akamai.com/2800/Media%20Repository/Video/EricPrydz/EricPrydz_CallonMe_LateNightVersion_300k.wmv I stuck that into Net Transport, and to be safe, I added a referrer... mms://a238.v28002.c2800.g.vm.akamaistream.net/7/238/2800/v0001/mos.download.akamai.com/2800/Media Repository/AdvertVideo/AnnualSummer2004/TheAnnualSummer2004_2TVAd_56k.wmv ...which seems to point to an ad. Looks like they want you to watch the ad first before watching the vid. Anyway, I'll post the file up for you in a tick.
  20. Have you tried using programs like 'Net Transport', 'Streambox Internet VCR' or ' ASF Recorder'? Hang on - I've got Net Transport installed. I'll check it out...
  21. I don't have structured practice sessions, but because my deck is set-up mext to my computuer, I inevitably end up doing some cutting almost everyday.
  22. And loop lots of stuff too. Helps with beat mixing & blending.
  23. You guys gotta try 'Mario vs Donkey Kong'. It's another one of those 'one-more-level' type jobbies. But the thing is, the game is structured in such a way that you can play it for 5 minutes, put it down, and come back to it tomorrow. Or you can sit on it for hours, trying to beat as many levels as you can. Awesome, addictive fun.
  24. Might be a bit late now, but try and get your hands on some Wicked Mix, X-Mix, Funky Mix, Hot Mix / Street Mix, Chicken Scratch, etc etc tracks. Those tracks just about mix themselves! They are basically pop / crossover-urban tracks that have been remixed with a clean 16 bar intro and outro, so you can esily mix them in and out. The tracks themselves sound just like what you hear on the radio (ie not a thumping cheesy house mix)
  25. I got a GBA SP. Awesome little toy. The Backlight (technically a side light) works well - I can play my GBA SP in all lighting conditions But, I can only fully recommend it if you get a Flash Cart to go with it. The price of a Flash Cart alone is about the price of a GBA SP, but is well worth it. There are a lot of crap games on the GBA, only a few really worth buying. However, the way I approach the GBA is that it is a good way to waste 5 - 15 minutes, which is where these crappy games can sometimes come in.
