  1. all 3. anytime I've seen him dj he's thrown his laptop with all his own tunes on it on one deck, and scratched on the other deck. have no idea what program he was using to trigger his tunes. Mayb ableton or tractor? anyone know? I think he also released an album not too long ago that was done in 5.1 surround sound. anyone know about this? oh, i also heard a very dubious story from a friend that he fucked with so much bass and stuff, and listened to it through his headphones for ages. apparently he fucked up his inner ear or something and couldn't stand up for ages. Like couldn't keep his balnce and kept falling over. Kind of like a cat if you cut off it's whiskers. Strange enough to be true? either way, the man is a legend!
  2. you could try buying it online from his website. it's tipper dot something. give me a break, it's 1am and i can't be bothered getting the link.
  3. it's gonna be like that again huh?
  4. what's this watery burst thing you talk about? anyone care to explain?
  5. cheers man, I've been searching out similar stuff for ages, just dark kind of hip hop and breaks, with crazy basslines. Doesn't need any scratching over it, hopefully i can do that myself! so far the only place i've ever really found stuff is on battle records and of course some of the shit danny breaks has brought out has been great. and of course Dj craze has had some mad kind of drum and bass inspired hip hop that i totally dig! Anyone on here make anything similar?
  6. Anyone checked out tip hop by by tipper yet? Fuck the man can scratch, I was into breaks and drum and bass before i was into hip hop, and this guy can do all three like a maniac! Check out this cd! Tip hop cd, Tipper Anyone know of anyone else who produces this kind of dark stuff?
  7. cheers bro, much appreciated. still, a DV battle record would b pretty rad!
  8. woah, i aint got that kind of money! how much would it cost anywho? Like a proper, high quality vinyl?
  9. Sorry steve, i thought that thread refered more to an actual tune rather than a battle record. doesn't it? yeah, cost would b a factor, i guess the only way we could do it is if we all pre-ordered and paid and then it would probably take at least six months before we got to see the record. On the plus side though, with all of us putting the record together, I'm sure it would be Uber awesome, and might even sell a few copies in stores and stuff. Who's entrepenurial enough to give this a go? I'd buy a few copies and sell them to all the brisbane dj's.
  10. Have you guys ever attempted it? Like everyone sends in 1 or two minutes of audio they want on a record + whatever their share of getting the things pressed up would be? I don't exactly know what all this would cost, or how we would go about it, but i bet you guys must have a better idea than i do. just a thought, sorry if it's been done or mentioned already, I'm pretty new here. Anyone from australia by the way? Queensland? brisbane? peace out
  11. hmmm, heated. my comment before still stands though. The only two original techniques are babies and fader clicks. Where is it that you should draw the line when telling people about new styles? keep chirps a secret, let them figure them out? I say, the more tools we give people to work with, the better they are going to sound. The more they learn from us, the more they learn for themselves. The more they learn for themselves, the more they can teach us. and around and around we go, getting better and better. sir Isaac Newton said, "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants." In other words, if all the other scientists before me hadn't worked out the world was round, and that the sun didn't revolve around the earth etc, how the hell could i have worked out what i did? Remember, this is a young instrument, we need to work to develop it. In years to come, people of the last and this generation will be seen as the pioneers and the inventors of this stuff.
  12. hmmm, every technique is just a variation of the basics, where do you cut it off and say, "i won't teach you anything else, you know the basics now"? I mean, if you tell someone what a baby scratch is, and you teach them what the fader does, is that enough? That's the basic "foundations" when it comes down to it. But when people talk about solid foundations, they talk about tears, transforms, chirps and stabs? but is that enough? What about a definition of solid foundations that includes flares? or crabs? and in five years time, will the definition of "the basics" also include prisms? or delayed apestyle crabMcTwists? Again, much respect to everyone who wants to keep their secret variations and styles and combos a secret, it's your choice. To anyone who wants to share all, tell all, that's where it's at. peace out
  13. hmmm, the thing that brought me to digital vertigo was the fact that i thought i'd found a pretty amazing community where people didn't mind sharing the wealth of knowledge. Dee, not feeling the whole, "i learnt everthing the hard way, now it's your turn" attitude. Much respect, you did it your way, without the videos and the internet, but times have changed. My dad always tells me he walked bare foot in the snow for 5 miles to get to school every day, but he's never once wished it on me. U dig? Sure, we're all learning the same techniques, but it's how you flip it that matters. Anyone who plays the guitar plays it the same way, with the same set of techniques, but there will only ever be one jimi hendrix. so, in my humble opinion, i say we all share everything we ever learn, every new type of technique we think of, because if we do that, then this whole turntable thing is only going to go forward. we aren't going to all sound the same, because, everyone's zigzag, flare etc, has a different sound, and it's putting it in the right context that's the skill. Peace out all, Love the site everyone, keep sharing!
  14. clever man, simple solution to simple problem! Now if only it would help me do prisms!!
  15. oops sorry dude, yeah, scratching with gloves equals impossible, but i just meant wearing gloves before the gig. It's probably normal in some countries, but in australia NOBODY wears gloves. if i show up to a gig wearing gloves, people are going to b like, "WTF!" what's a pocket warmer?
  16. ok, I'm from brisbane, Australia. Sunny queensland. Went and did an outdoor gig the other day, in slightly colder climates, in the middle of winter. my fingers froze! No matter how hard i tried, i sucked. crabs wouldn't come, tears were a mess. My hands were numb and they just wouldn't do what i asked them to do. My only option as i see it is to wear gloves to gigs like these, but i don't exactly want to look like a pretentious prat. Help, because it's just getting colder here, and i have a gig coming up in the next couple of weeks, and i really want to b able to impress the scratch nerds I'll be performing alongside. peace out
  17. does it take an hour for you to write a paragraph sinergee? Bummer for you. hmmm, cheers on the tears idea Disscuss, they definitely are the bitch of the scratch world! Yeah, mirror is wierd to begin with, but i find it's a pretty good aid. And i think it's kind of cool to be able to scratch and find your mark without looking at the record. If you watch qbert he kind of stares blankly into the distance when he scratches. even when he switches to chirps and stuff, he doesn't look down to find his mark. In front of a crowd, that's pretty cool to b able to look up and scratch! Any other ideas? The tears are definitely getting a full hour tomorrow, if the hangover allows. peace out
  18. ok, give to receive i guess. My lesson 1 hour lesson in greatness is pretty simple. Use the 1 hour to go out and buy yourself a mirror. Ever since i got a mirror infront of my decks, my scratching has improved by heaps! by looking at myself through my mirror, i can see how crappy my technique is. Everything becomes heaps better and quicker once you work out you are holding your hand in a slightly odd way. Without a mirror you can only see the top view of yourself, and whenever you watch other dj's, you see them from front on. so, looking at yourself from front on, makes it heaps easier to spot your mistakes. ok, anyone else got a 1 hour lesson.
  19. In episode's 1, 2 and 3 of star wars, didn't it seem like becoming a jedi was REALLY hard work! Like you needed training and shit! But in the old one's with luke skywalker and shit, didn't it seem like becoming a Jedi was a piece of piss, like yoda could teach you in an hour to pull a plane half way out of a swamp, and Luke turned off that guidance system and used the force, and blew up the death star, even though he'd only learnt what the force was like a day ago! Phew, that took some effort. Anyway, so i figure, i've been doing jedi training for a while now, like the old school jedi training, and frankly, I've had enough. I've gone through the videos, i can do all the stuff from Qberts learn to scratch volume 1, plus a bit of other stuff picked up around the place. So, here's the challenge everyone! you are Yoda, I am Luke. Give me a 1 hour training program to make me a better scratcher. I'll put my hands on the decks at 5pm, finish at 6pm, and emerge a better scratcher, and defeat the death star! So, what should i do master jedi? p.s, don't bother with the "it takes years and years of practise" stuff, I'm just posting because I'm bored, and thought I'd throw down the challenge of some sort. and a lesson in any of the Jedi arts would be rad, faster chirps, uzi's, more controlled drags, better chick picking up abilities. ANYTHING! Peace out
  20. Mister Ed, that was some SICK SHIT!
  21. oh man, i really hope i haven't started some kind of "what's this scratch thread!" Forget, i said anything like that! PLEASE! The real question is, how do you practise? Do you put any thought into it, etc. Just wondering what different methods everyone uses. peace out
  22. no one practises?!!!!
  23. How much do you guys practise? are you strict with yourself? Like, i must learn 2 click flares today!? or do you just roll out of bed an scratch some shit, watch some daytime tv, then after Oprah scratch some more shit? You guys heard any stories about the guys who do it for a living? how much did I-emerge practise to win last year? "give up everything, wine, women, song, for 1 year, and you can be the best at what you do." What do you guys think?
  24. hey thanks guys! Yeah, to be honest i think it might be a touch of laziness on my behalf not learning at least a couple of really amazing 4 or 8 bar set pieces. I think at the moment I don't actively seek out new combos and techniques, they are just gradually coming to me over a certain period of time. Mayb even just a half hour a day of actively working on combos i don't usually do might be a good idea? I've got 3 videos of craze doing variations of the same 6 minute set at 3 different times, and although some of the songs change and the set differs somewhat, he definitely has set scratch combinations of 4 or 8 bars that he does in each video. That's what got me thinking about it. Anyway, thanks for the ideas. and if someone does have a little set piece they are proud of or are willing to share, I'd love to hear about the thought process that went into it, or how you made it etc. Peace out
