I've just bought a digital camera and a firewire card. Upon trying to install the card, it appears that it won't fit into the slot. My knowledge of this kind of thing is very limited. It seems to me that it's a PCI card and my mobo only takes AGP. Is there anywhere that does firewire cards that are compatible with my motherboard? I can't seem to find any that aren't PCI.

I've heard good things about Tor. Does it slow your connection down?

Ok, i get it now. It was actually Anti-Hacker that i got. What happens is, it says that my computer was attacked and therefore it will refuse incoming contact for a short period of time. How do i stop that? ROAROAROAR i hate firewalls.

Just downloaded the trial version and no matter what i do, i can't get it to let me access anything online. Completely locked out when i use it.

Alreet, I've only just got my pc working again (woooo). I have magical powers which destroy electronic equipment. Anyway, i'm trying to play counterstrike while using zonealarm and i'm getting intolerable lag just like last time. You guys told me to get sygate and that sorted it out until it all went tits-up and now sygate isn't around anymore (as far as i'm aware). Just asking if anyone could recommend to me a decent firewall for online gaming . If there's anything thats good and free at the same time thats cool too. Thank-you thank-you

My thread on graphics card recommendations feels fully justified now

I think i may have isolated the problem. I was looking inside my pc with the side removed while it was running just to have a peek at where the RAM is and whether i'd have to remove much to get to it. I looked underneath the graphics card for some reason and noticed the fan is completely inert. I loaded up a game and watched the fan and it still did nothing. Even with my low computer experience, this cries out to be the problem. Guessing it isn't normal for the fan to stop.

Alrighty, i'll start with the RAM sticks. I have 2 and one of them i bought off a friend last year. Bit scared though :s Last time i fiddled with my RAM, the MOBO esploded. Hehe. There must also be some kind of graphics card/processor stress testing programs out there. I'm just really eager to sort this out. Once again, cheers man.

WAAAAAAAHRAPAPRPROAOARORAR Just completely reinstalled windows and formatted my pc and everything is so much worse. Crashes are constant and textures slur all over the screen. Every game is now completely unplayable.

Still getting severe crashes and i'm getting little feedback from the AMD forums. Anyone know anywhere else where i'm going to get responses?

Hey, my pc has been buggering up recently and i've been a bit suspicious that it might be my graphics card (GForce 4 Ti 4600) which is like 4 years old now. Even if this isn't the problem i think its about time to upgrade. Can anyone recommend something relatively cheap that would be ideal for games and will last me for a few more years? If it matters, i think my current specs are: AMD 64 motherboard, AMD 3000+, 1024 MB DDR RAM, and i have plenty o' hard drive space left.

I've been writing music for years and i've only just bothered to tweak around with EQ and compression. Yes, i know a lot of people say they're the two most important effects you can add to your music, but i'm a lazy hippy. Anyone know any good tutorials that also go deep into the physics/mechanics of these.

Ok, well the problem seemed to vanish for a while. Then, just now my pc restarted itself in-game and a logo appeared saying "american mega-trends" along with the text "overclocking failed!" There were 2 options. F1 to setup or F2 to use defaults and continue. I chose F2. Does this help indicate what the problem is? I don't know much about overclocking.

Updated graphics drivers and nothing helped. Tried it out after installing and restarting and i got a very bad crash. Windows restarted itself during the crash and came up with "windows has recovered from a serious error" on startup. Another point to mention. When a game has crashed i can still move the in-game cursor around and sometimes look around, however its as if the game has crashed and not the interface. This happens with all of them. Once the game resumes again, every bit of mouse/keyboard input is acted out in super-fast motion up until the point of resuming (if you know what i mean). Its like when it snaps out of it everything goes hyperactive for a few seconds to catch up. This year i've already upgraded my RAM to 1024, CPU to AMD 3000 (I think) and motherboard to AMD 64. EDIT: Getting no BSOD though. Everything just freezes.

No errors. It seems to happen with every game too for no particular reason. It can even happen when nothing intense is going on. Sounds that are playing at the time of the crash repeat over and over until everything goes back to normal. I've got no viruses or spyware, no background programs running. Its only just started to happen recently for no obvious reason. All the games seem to be running perfectly smoothly too.

Been a bit ill at the moment and i've been playing games to take my mind off it. Problem is that every game i install or load up has a tendancy to crash every 5 minutes for about 1 minute. Is it possibly a hardware problem? Was thinking of formatting my hard drive yet again.

As far as i know, the word art comes from the word artificial. Therefore - unfortunately - that means that this and everything else included in the turner prize is art. It kind of reminds me of some of the shit IDM i've heard. Over-indulgent in either simplicity or chaos. And thats the only point to it too. I'd go red with embarrasment if you caught me ever wandering round galleries displaying that shit. I'd get all self-aware that everyone was thinking i'm a pretentious bastard who actually sees something unique, emotionally provocative, deep, amazing, wonderous, beautifully simplistic, daring or convention defying in the "works." I bet everyone there would frown if i got my arse out in the middle of the gallery. Fuck, they can even come and see the art that is my unmade bed if they don't mind me charging them a fiver. It is worth it though: I'm sure i've got a few used condoms lying around somewhere. Mediocre shite.
