I went from the 06 to the rane too. I really like the feel and layout of the 56. I prefer the crossfader without the spring.

So what term do you use for someone that skillfully blends, cuts up and mixes music where the mix becomes more then the sum of its parts and and the same time manages to read a crowd and, god forbid, get girls dancing? edit:not saying this is me btw! just interested in why DJ is such a bad word amongst so many of those that consider themselves 'musicians of the turntable'.

Being a good 'DJ' is a skill that is very different but equally as difficult as being good with the tt as an instrument, I realise the nature of this board will mean that many won't think so. I don't think DJ is a term to be looked down upon at all.

It's a difficult one because even though the turntable quite clearly can be an instrument, the term 'turntablist' sounds a bit contrived and awkward compared to good old fashioned 'DJ', to me anyway.

i appreciate what youve said sigma, but when ive done it the above way i havent been able to hear my cuts, and surely if im hearing it via whats being bounced back from the other persons computer i'm going to hear lag even if i can hear my cuts.
