  1.

Keep in mind it is still a prototype.....

Is it though? Was it sold to the people who pre-ordered it as them buying a prototype? There's a big difference between a product being imperfect, and a prototype. If it was explicitly stated that people were paying for a prototype then fair enough, but if not, then I don't think it's fair to refer to it as such.

I was referring to Catalyst Tracker with the prototype.

With Phase, from what I know (but my knowledge is limited) is that people bought a pre-order and bacisally felt they were beta - testing it.

  2. Im less interested in catalyst now i know its only an add on for the main catalyst and not a standalone bluetooth puc.

It will be like ten times the price of phase.

Keep in mind it is still a prototype, and the fastest way to make it work was as an add-on, I never mentioned Bluetooth - albeit maybe could have been more clear on 'how' exactly it works. Be that as it may, I do intend to be very clear about the compromises or side notes that are involved. E.g. There is added latency, I know exactly which component adds how much latency, no reason to not mention that. And there is some other things as well.

On the drifting note, I really hope phase can fix that (as it's a problem for many users) but realistically I don't think it's something they can control. It is my under standing that both serato and ni compensate for the drift by polling either the noisemap (serato) or the position info on traktor cv. As long as they do not synthesize that, or have the permission to do so, it's just the sinetone - which in itself cannot eliminate drift.

  3. PDX 3000, controller one, numark cdx, hdx, pdx 2000 with midi mod, pdx 2000mkii with midi mod and sl1200 with midi mod are your options. If you're not too afraid to solder some things I'd recommend getting a 2nd hand pdx 2000 and doing the mod there.

The downside I've seen (haven't used it myself s a bit of a disclaimer) of the 1200 midi mod is that the torque of the 1200 is not as great as the Vestax decks. This manifests itself in a noticeable slide from note to note. The Vestax decks have this too, but less so.

With regards to the pedal topic, if it is digital pitch correction I agree in the extremes it becomes noticeable. However, I would just use Serato or Traktor for that purpose. And to counteract the 'artificial' side of it you could even use different samples at every midi note...

  4. I've seen a video at some point of some guys doing it. They used 2 big circular wood pieces to secure the vinyl in between, then proceeded to grind down the excess of the vinyl. Not sure if that's a 'milling machine' setup or not, but it seemed like a sure way to not fuck up your record.

Also, Google turned up this http://seven-inches.uk/shop/

Maybe they can help you out with the ms pinky resizing?

  5. Hi!

we have today launched MIDI Note Fader Pro mkII!

    Check the specs here:

    http://skratchamental.bigcartel.com/product/midi-note-fader-pro-mkii

We added a bunch of features for easier usage (change MIDI channel, transpose etc.). Key thing is the DVS software x-fader option. If you have e.g. Traktor it enables you to use the x-fader to control the software's internal x-fader, or other controls.

We improved our production process, we are now using lasercut tops for a slicker look.

Let us know what you think!

  6. I finally filed down the post and have it all soldered...but when I tried out a Pro X Fade as crossfader in my 06, it cuts in the middle of the throw, not the sides. I have it soldered to the "official" loom according to the diagram here - http://proxfade.co.uk/shop/?product=original-pxf-wire-loom

What did I do wrong? Thanks for your help!

The loom is not correct for vestax 05 or 06, I have fitted it, works fine. Have the diagram at home somewhere, hit me up on fb and I can send it to you.

  7. While i enjoy these sorts of things, everybody knows you can just load any VST you like in Virtual DJ right ?

So you could load a vst with a single note and then map to pitch bend or even notes if you wanted, the VST acts exactly like Vinyl

Here, Maschine working exactly like any other deck in Virtual DJ, full vinyl control, could definitely be interesting with one of these MIDI pitch faders

I've never used VDJ but if it can be done there too, that's great :)

  8. Fe-Do is building fretless faders with the help of Bob Kruijer.

Bob is programming the software code. He call his fretless fader "Midi Note Fader".

Fe-Do has build the fretless fader for Ritchie Ruftone.

The fretless fader from Rasp Haunt was build by Viny`Lord Son.

Rasp Haunt say he build it, but it was Viny`Lord Son.

This is correct, and I've dubbed it MNF because I have no connection to FF whatsoever. Of course the idea is exactly the same, vertical motion sending midi notes to control pitch - and I have never claimed I came up with the idea.

Having said that, anyone who wanted to do the mod I have helped out and have also publicly shared the software that I have coded:

Rasp Haunt, Jean Paul Calderon, afaik is a manipulating douchebag. He asked me to build him a MNF about a year ago, claiming he had all kinds of illnesses, couldn't do it himself, but loved scratching so much...

  9. Hey Backtrack, I just thought of something. My terminology might be a little fucked up but bear with me.

In MIDI mode, can you use 33/45 short presses for sharp and flat and then make the pitch slider a tuner that affects how much slower/faster you are off the true note you are in? Let me try to explain a little better. One thing about the Controller One that I didn't think about before I got it is that you need to work in the key your other music is in, and sometimes your other music is pitched to be "off" key. So for example, if you want to hit notes over an instrumental track, and the instrumental track is at -5% on your other table, then you need to "tune" the C1 to -5%, THEN your notes on the C1 will be in the key of the other song you're playing. If you don't first match up your pitch with your backing track then all your notes sound off key relative to the key of the song you are cutting over. That's a REALLY important concept to keep in mind when working with a note-changing turntable because we are often working with music that's not in a standard pitch/key.

In practice you would want to have more than just a C-note on your record as well, that's why I use traktor remix decks for my tones, have a whole octave for each sound. E.g. if a track is in C-major that is easily done with the C record, but if your track is on G#-minor it becomes more complicated to do with C-note. Maybe musical geniuses don't think of it in that way, but at least for me it helps to match up the right sounds, scales and backing tracks.

  10. Hi all,

bumped into this board by accident (already figured all the cool stuff was happening on Focus' FB page lol) and wanted to share more goodies for the scratch-mod-year 2016

    The beef is here https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1f5v4Ks1ls2yDXkh9CmthxQQ7dfQjZ8QE3w_BuphSaWw/pub?start=false&loop=false&delayms=5000&slide=id.p

I started my prototype in 2014 and now other peeps have also adopted it (Ritchie Ruftone, FeDo), happy to share the MNF control panel with others who want to do the mod (even better now that you'll soon be able to mod your sl1200 for Midi hehe) - great to see Backtrack is working on that :)

    Here's some vids

It's all in the doc but essentially it the route is like this: vertical-fader > USB DA convertor ( can also be a joystick) > laptop MNF control panel (will share with anyone who wants it) > midi-out to turntable

The cool thing about the control panel is that it's easily customizable, add more scales, use different DA convertors etc. Together with FeDo we've also made one with a Teensy, with onboard code. That doesn't need a laptop (but as most of you use some DVS anyway might as well utilize it hehe), and it works as well.

Let the modding commence! Any questions, comments and stuff, let me know.

    Bob
