  1. Do you have the DeLorean that this goes into the back of?! Crikey! It's very pretty!
  2. I've got an SP-505. I was gonna give it away but then realised I have no other equipment that has a mic input! Could have been a silly move! That was my 505th post and I was talking about a '505. Spooooooooky!
  3. I read this as "My Mother just died" and got a bit panicky. #learntoreadsteven
  4. I believe this is just a one-off. I don't think it is an official product. Cool if it is though.
  5. She has said that once, but on both occasions, I am taking it as a win. He actually said "Obviously there's nothing wrong with your scratching...yeah I reckon it shouldn't be a problem for you to do a 15 minute set.."
  6. I have just approached Manipulate about doing a 15 minute showcase at the Community Scratch Games this year. He said there is nothing wrong with my scratching so thinks this could happen. Very excited! It was nerve-racking though! He's a bit of a legend amongst the Brighton turntablists so it was a bit like asking someone on a date! I had butterfiles and everything!
  7. I dunno what everyone's problem is - they know that it is your hobby/passion but they think that breaking/stealing/losing your tools is acceptable? Sorry - do you not know me at all? Fuck 'em. He is going to replace it eventually - I have shown him mercy because his finances are a bit long at the moment. If he doesn't, I need someone with a large boot and access to a building site.
  8. Oh - I forgot to say - he's not even a turntablist. He is a good DJ, but I cannot help thinking that a real TT would have never asked in the first place, knowing the true value of a good cartridge and if he did, he would not have treated it in such a way. Murder is still an option, thinking about it... Oh - I forgot to say - he's not even a turntablist. He is a good DJ, but I cannot help thinking that a real TT would have never asked in the first place, knowing the true value of a good cartridge and if he did, he would not have treated it in such a way. Murder is still an option, thinking about it... I don't want to be a dick but I am never lending my shit out again. Ever. I would advise you the same.
  9. I stupidly let my friend borrow my Ortofon QBert. He then lost the cartridge and the cool little Ortofon case and cartridge, used his own black Ortofon and then returned the needle... broken. Option 1: Murder him, bury his idiot body in some kind of building site/concrete-setting-type scenario and wing it. I am pretty sure I would have gotten away with it. Option 2: Let him off the hook a little, wait for an £80 replacement and ask for a replacement M44-7 stylus for £25-£30. Obviously I am a pussy so I went for the latter... I have to say though: not the worst cartridge ever and it tracks so much better on my QFO. The QBert Orfofon is noticeably louder, but the Shure just will not move. I am very pleased. It looks like I went for fashion over functionality and I paid the price (literally). It looks much better too - that little red Vestax logo on the headshell is nice to see. I feel so ashamed. Gold ones? I really do want them though...! #willneverlearn
  10. Lol getting all lairy but being really shit!
  11. It would have broken my heart, is what I meant to say.

Politics aside, I am 37 now and I never had the balls to enter this. The thought of not even placing would have been too much for my ego and I feared that I would fall out of love with turntablism. I am friends with TGK and I respect him so much because despite not placing, he still enters, just for the sheer fun of it. It didn't put him off turntablism and I really hope his persistence pays off. Maybe I will do it for my 40th birthday. Probably not though. Question: why didn't you enter? Was it a confidence thing or was it actually that you thought it too [insert reason here]. Did you enter and not place? Did it affect your views on the artform you love?
  13. All my judgements counted, including the draw and I am pretty sure I wasn't the only one judging. I might actually know what I am talking about! Sorry guys, if you read this, but it was really close!
  14. I just had to judge between Chmielex and Chinmachine. That was hard. They are both fucking amazing. I did not like doing that one bit! It had to be a draw - I was looking for one fuck-up or something that would outdo the other but they are so close. I'm pretty sure it could be the same person. lol obviously I don't mean that!
  15. I should probably use the middle buttons to change tracks too. And I have the pads set to maximum sensitivity and they light up when struck, unlike in this advert, where they are always off. I will definitely shut up about this now!
  16. I use my Mk1 to trigger Traktor Hotcues - just allocate 8 for each deck in your mind. The left top buttons activate the effects, the pots for the amount. I opted for a "hold" method for these as opposed to "toggle", but I am torn as to the right way. The right top buttons are nudge tempo for each deck, the pots control the tempo and loop size. The 3 middle pots (which is why I don't want a mark 2), control the master and channel volumes. The step buttons control play/pause for each deck and the buttons underneath activate the loop function. I will probably use the other 4 buttons in this bank to change the key for each deck and then one of the middle ones for that nifty deck duplicate function but have had no time to do this. Basically I have aimed so you could DJ with Traktor just using this and the fact I have decks to control the vinyl means I get the controllerist button-bashing sound as well as the organic scratching aspect. Eventually I will design myself a skin to go on it so it all makes sense. I'm gonna quit my jibber-jabber now but that is what I use mine for.
  17. I totally respect this attitude and it is one I live by!
  18. If you had a specially-modified mixer and turntable with crude "polygraph pens" attached to them and some paper feeding though (perhaps with lines that denote bars on them), would one not be able to decipher that information and learn scratches from them? Think of it like a live "TTM" writer. Or am I still drunk and that is a shit idea?
  19. Good man, thank you. I am gonna just freestyle it when I turn up on the night.
  20. I am alright with Traktor - I get what I want done but have never had go on Serato nor can I think of anybody whose I can have a go on. I am doing a gig soon and the guy runs Serato. Rather than taking my setup, I was hoping I could just take a memory stick and use his setup. Question is: how different is it? I am quite a quick learner so could I just figure it all out on the fly or should I make the effort to seek it out beforehand? Most importantly, how easy is it to set up loops - I won't use any more features that I can think of?
  21. Yeah I never knew Liz used to be hot! You learn something new every day. It kinda all makes sense now!
  22. I am sorry if this has already been posted, but... http://m.tickld.com/x/29-incredible-colorized-historical-photos Number 23 really made me sad though.
  23. I know some phat scratchers who contort their face/stop caring what people think of the way they look. I always made a conscious effort not to stick my tongue out/spaz out whilst on the decks. I certainly haven't ever had my body threaten "shut down" on me! Crikey! Maybe that's why I am not the best - I need to learn to let go!
  24. I just landed a video-making job on the back end of this! I only did it as a laugh and I didn't really ever figure out a purpose for it - turns out it essentially ended up as an advert of my work. I was sandbagging when I said it was a teaser for a bigger project. Well, not for the immediate future anyway.
