POST A PIC OF YOUR SETUP
goldielocksnthethreebrares replied to iexist's topic in EQUIPMENT & AUDIO PRODUCTION
First up unless you're Usher your stylus probably isn't made out of diamond. Diamond styli means the needle contact point is cut to diamond shape. It's still just metal. Plus have you never had a worn down needle - the type tha just skate across the record?? I know I have and I'd rather my needles didn't get in that state too quickly. Also record wear is very real. I thought I couldn't afford Shures when I first started out. I wish I'd just bought them though as they'd have been a great investment. I ruined a whole load of nice vinyl scratching with Shures with 5ps on the carts (how was I supposed to know???) Needles are made of diamond, not metal. -

It does go each way, I have bagged goodies for dirt cheap before, thinking how the fuck did they sell that for £3 when every other place is doing it for £30+. Blatantly didn't know its value/rarity and just pulled a figure out the air... SOLD!
-
I think a records true value is only decided about how much you truly want it, in that sheer perfect shape. Like Rockwell said. I've paid over a tonne for a record thats pretty good but not amazing, just rare and I really wanted it. Had lucky dip bangers for £1. I'm happy on both accounts. At my work we pressed a £500 pet shop boys box set, which as you can imagine is complete and utter, bottom of the barrel dogshite. Cunts on ebay, be selling them for £1200! Re-sale for profit takes the fucking piss! The other thing I think takes the biscuit is when charity shops well over price records. Like, I know its for charity and all that but asking £26 for Bob Marley exodus with a sleeve thats a bit fucked and loads of surface marks is just wrong, especially when someone gave it to you for free in the first place because he couldn't be fucked to go to the dump or just fly-tip it over his neighbours fence.

A discussion about mixer price
goldielocksnthethreebrares replied to Steve's topic in EQUIPMENT & AUDIO PRODUCTION
@DjDiggla, You know those mp3 consoles, or 'dj in a box' packages that look like a mixer and 2 cdj's in one unit, Rane didn't come up with that. I thought the same with the 909, I came very close to forking out for one, but I'm glad I didn't. And I bet my Timefactor pedal can make a variety of better delays than the 909 could anyways, and it doesn't skatt out when I tap the tempo in as someone mentioned earlier. AND my Timefactor and my 08 together, cost over a whole week of work less than the 909, WTF? I think pioneer think, that because of their other products which can be regarded as great, they they deserve to add the hefty price tag, they don't. Just because their plasma screens are good doesn't mean their mixers are of equal 'professional' value. Make a great great product and yes its price is worth while, dont piss into the wind and tell me its raining! In my eyes Pioneer is a great company for everything except their dj products or headphones, are all over priced shite. Hahaha Rane Rape - parts sourced from China, assembled in America by a Mexican. -

I don't buy that! Their mixers are all basically tweaked revamps of a model before - Probably just like any other mixer company if we are honest, but then, they are not asking a fucking grand. Take a look at the "mixing" mixers (I think, starting from the DJM 500 as I think that really famously put them on the mixer map - co incidentally, by which point all the cool scratch innovations were already available on other mixers, curve, reverse, lag etc), they are practically exactly the same with a few new features. Do you honestly think, Pioneer are like right, we making a new mixer, like the DJM500 but better, that they plan that shit from the very start, drawing electrical schematics etc? No, bollocks, they take the 500, maybe dash the housing, the shitty buttons and fucking shite faders etc and go from there. Pioneer are a massive, massive company, with many, many workers, all with fingers in different pots. TVs, radios, dvd players the list goes on and on... So the costing to add a few more features (which wouldn't surprise me if they had the very effect unit in another product, or just reversed engineered someone elses product) isn't going to be putting them in any trouble zone at all, like it would with say DJtech. Skip forward about 10 years, they drop the 909, basically its a 05 with a kaoss effect pad added. "Fuck me, how the fuck did they come up with this shit!" That technology was already about in multiple places, besides, the size of pioneer means that that initial 'make it work in this new mixer' investment was nothing to them! Where it could have easily bankrupted another company, who yet still make innovative products but at realistic rates. What exactly have pioneer pioneered in the mixer world (excuse the pun). I'll think you'll find Vestax has come out with more of the innovations than pioneer! E.G. These new digital all in one packages, vestax had those before pioneer. So by that they are riding Vestax's tails & on this point even that beamz thing is more pioneering than pioneer. Isn't a 'perfected' product better than one that's rough round the edges? Wait for it, Pioneer Lazer (poor mans beamz, but priced at £500,000 as it has a pioneer logo, ooo wow shiny), due for full release fall 2014!!!! -

Sampling from CDs and "too soon" samples
goldielocksnthethreebrares replied to doppelkorn's topic in MUSIC/DJ RELATED
I think anything is game, the more variety the better. I think the sources will vary like the media its played on as time progresses, which will only add to the whole aspect of it in a good way. There will always be lovers and haters whatever you sample... I feel like as long as I buy the dvd, cd or record either new or 2nd hand, then I'm not breaking the law. :-/ As I have paid for the item and I'll do whatever I want with it, thanks. Where as If I borrowed the dvd, cd or record then I am taking the piss and breaking the law. -

I wanted to get a 909, but saw loads of complaints about the effect thing skatting out, so got the 08 never looked back! The price, ok this is speculation but lets think about it, shops add at least 30-50% on the trade costs right, so straight away that brings that grand mixer down to between £500 - £700, for trade yeah? Pionner dont make shit out of the goodness of their heart - because they are "nice guys", and a greedy expensive company like Pioneer, I bet add at least 30-40 maybe even 50% profit onto the manufacture cost, agreed? Maybe with say TVs where they plan to sell 10s of millions, the mark up maybe lower as the recoup will be easier to achieve, but on DJ mixers I bet it would be 30 -50% as the amount of intended customers is much lower. Components, pretty generic, I doubt they use unobtanium to make the rotatries & faders etc, so I'd imagine the costs for said rotaries will be similar regardless of company sourced from, same with all the other shit, resistors, capacitors, PCBs etc. Faders may cost a bit more or less as different manufactures utilize different faders etc. But I'd imagine the electrical schematics and components are very similar. Fader caps, plastic buttons etc all made the same way and by the 1000s, regardless of shape & size, I bet cost a similar cost. Are we agreeing thus far? Ok, now compare said mixer to say the newish vestax 05, now compare what you actually get component wise, say 10 rotaries 3 faders etc. While bearing in mind that vestax cost £500 new, inc trader profit, manufacturer profit etc. What exactly does that additional cost go on?! They are just taking the piss! -

Dont get me started on Rane, £2 grand? You can go fuck a goat, sideways! I'd like to know the cost of making a 62 over say the DJtech mixers for eg. Pioneer mixers no way cost £600 to manufacture, they are all ghetto. -
