  1. +1 for computers being cunts...

It's the trackpad one a laptop that causes me much pain (and touchscreen phone). Having a trackball has definitely helped.

  2. I found my GP has been pretty crap for this, I've had physio that reduces the pain for a short time but someone at the Musicians Union told me about BAPAM, they offer free consultations to musicians (my pains are drum machine related). I'm off to see a specialist today. I'll let you know how I get on.

  3. Not that I'm aware of. I've always wanted Ableton to implement time sig and tempo changes via master scenes on follow actions but it's still not happening. It's not in any Beta versions either.

Anyway, sorry for the thread derail, I just like telling people that in the hope that it will create a massive movement of people who want the feature implemented. A bit like the Million Man March or the Peasants' Revolt but with more people wearing glasses.

  4.

especialy if its something as nice as an ARP synthesizer

Alas Arp are no more... I guess Korg would be a good bet seeing as they're doing a 'new' Arp.

    Hmm...

Havent Arp merged with Oberhiem or something ? Im sure there were some new models unveiled at this years NAMM show that i saw online quite recently. please correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that is the case .....

It's Korg I believe... I heard Behringer were even making a version. It makes me shudder just to think...

As a side note, I think Behringer pre amps and DIs were invented by the Rothchilds and they put bad frequencies in everyones minds.

If everyone stopped buying them we could end world famine.

  5. Just going back a littleton the originality comments, I really like this interview with Goldie on the subject...

Also, a note on transient shaping, swell as tweaking the drums, one of the most useful things I've found with mixing in general is using transient shapers to create a sense of depth to a mix.

Our hearing perceives sounds with sharp transient elements to be closer than those with softer transients. This can be manipulated in the mix to create a 'front and back'. For example, you had an acoustic guitar sound and were happy with the volume, you could soften the transient to make it appear further away then enhance the attack thespian to bring it closer.

The sampan be achieved with microphone choice if you're recording.

    This thread is cool :)

Can't think of anything specifically lofi to add, also I did do a session a while back where we ran the lead vocal through a domestic tape deck and sent it back in the computer.... Although it was then quite an edit to restore the timing where the tape seen had fluctuated.

  6. Listen to this man everyone.

I was sorely tempted to write a comment about it that tenuously relates the subject to some foolish and speciously reasoned racism, so it could look like every other comments section on the internet.

I.e. "We'd all have balanced cables if there wasn't so many immigrants using them all up."

or "I like this article but can't concentrate on it because i'm so mad about all the terrorist muslims who are all muslims who are taking over our country!"

or "When i was a boy the world was different than today and i don't like it. Stop this islamist, zionist, left wing agenda!"

or as a bonus "Why don't you stop pushing this left wing agenda! When will you learn that socialism has failed. We have to all not give a shit about other people's welfare and crush the dregs of society )who are holding us back!) If there weren't so many images of migrants suffering on tv and in the papers, taking up our air time and ad space, people wouldn't care about things!"

I saved it for here, though. I'm sure you are all very pleased.

Ah you'll love the next one then...

"Ground loop hum, it's in the Qur'an."

And thanks for the kind words Pete, there's more to come :)

  7. A great technique is to put a single mic where the second tom would useable be (this needs to be a kit with just one rack and floor tom). The mic is pointed at the snare drum in a position that is equidistant between the two toms, kick and snare. You get a really good, surprisingly good balance of the kits as a whole and the toms maintain their tone.

If you want to research it further it's know as either the 'heart' or Tchad Blake technique.

  8. Howdy peeps,

Been away from DV and Super Scratch Sunday for for a while, had issues with hands going wrong so in that time I've been busy setting up a new business ( www.homstudiodoctor.co.uk )

I'm not trying to give anyone a hard sell, just to let you know I'v started a series of tutorials covering various aspects of setting up recording studios. The first being studio wiring basics and balanced vs. unbalanced connections.

It may be of interest to some of the folks here so here's the link...

    http://homestudiodoctor.co.uk/tutorials/balanced-vs-unbalanced-cables/

    Cheers

    Matt :)
