  1. I've been reading that this combo is pretty good to learn and get down well as it helps with other scratches, I've been practicing it but I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly or even if there is a correct way as in you can do what you like, also are the two different scratches (chirp/forward) supposed to be separated or done in one motion? You can sort of go into a forward from the chirp by doing half a chirp, sorry if this is a silly question but just wanted some pointers on where to go with it. Cheers
  2. After a days break from the decks I went on them and for some reason just started doing a chirpflare in reverse, after a while I managed to get it down pretty sweet so tried the mini autobahn which I'm still working on but making progress, I felt like I achieved something after doing that instead of spending a few hours freestyling and feeling like it's going no where, just wanted to know if you guys work on your scratches in reverse or is it not that important?
  3. I know I sold my 1000 earlier this year but I just had the feeling to make some beats after listening to only built for cuban linkx so I bought the 500 I know it's not as highly thought of but I can take it to work and get to grips with it in my breaks :-)
  4. Yeh that would be great, I had a search too but none of the links work, I think I found an online one but I didn't really get it, Thanks kut class I have followed her vids but never really did the q and a thing but I think I'll be using them a lot more now to try and help me push on :-)
  5. Thanks boss, it's hard going sometimes but like you said this forum is great if you need to talk to scratch heads :-), I just got an mpc too atm so im trying to give both a fair amount of time to practice on lol but sometimes it's hard to find time with standard day to day things you gotta do like.. Work! lol
  6. That's good then lol I was also trying it without a slight forward sound but it didn't flow as well, I'll stick with it then I saw vekked doing it on one of his recent youtube vids but I've never really found a tutorial on it, thanks for your help pete!
  7. Nice thanks for your help guys in going to spend some time developing it more, I just don't understand the tear version.... Where you snap your knuckles should you be getting just two distinct backward sounds got the reverse tear or at the point where you snap your knuckles do you get like a slight forward sound as well caused by the snap where your snapping then releasing to get the two separate tear sounds? Sorry again if I'm not explaining it right lol
  8. Do you have any tips or advice on the bumpy knuckles technique? I'm trying to work on that but can't find any good explication on it really, when you create the tear type sound by flexing your hand are you supposed to have just the backwards sound or forward? Which ever way your doing it, or does it create like a mini baby scratch, sorry if I confused you I might even be thinking of a different scratch lol
  9. This looks really nice and I've never seen anything like it or heard about it, definitely help people improve there scratching too, it seems a pretty unique tool shame it didn't take off can't understand why it wouldn't :-)
  10. Lol that's a pretty random character! I've tried practicing with these vids today, it's weird how on the spot it puts me, it's pretty hard thinking up a new pattern for every bar or so but I can see how it'll pysh me that bit futher with some practice :-), think that football head is my favourite tho
  11. I know what you mean I'd love to have a practice with someone coz I've only ever done it on my own, learning I person wild be alot better as you could ask about the different scratches, ive tried to get my mate into it but I think its an acquired love coz after a few hours of doing baby's he had enough lol I realised tho that I am actually learning something seeing him struggle with the baby scratch lol, that tac tac mans videos are prett good as he breaks it down a lot
  12. Thanks steve I see where your coming from, sometimes when I practice I worry too much about what I think I should be doing and sometimes just go around in circles not really getting anywhere, I think I should send some time and scratches I can do and maybe even them differently which I have done with some scratches but if I have a break through I tend to kill it before its already begun coz I keep doing it till I get sick of hearing it, Yeh chile I saw that on fb and it really makes a lot of sence, it's a good way of looking at it, I also liked your vid of rodney mullen I think he talks a lot of sense, have you checked out bones brigade? got some good interviews with him on it, Cheers I'll just keep at it in going to focus on the simple things for a week or so see where it gets me.
  13. Nice thanks boss that would be good :-), what would be a good starting point to start working on making my scratches less straight? I guess it's just practice really
  14. i agree i know i need to add something to my scratching but it isn't coming to me just yet lol, like you said i need to add something else to it, ill look forward to a video like that because theres not much in the way of talking about or how to create or string scratches together, its not something i think you can teach its got to come from yourself but a push in the right direction would be good. i learnt the autobahn the other week which was good but even that's gone stale now
  15. thanks for your comments again guys i take everything on board and try and put it into practice, sometimes watching videos of q bert and alike drive me crazy because i don't actually know what scratches their doing sometimes lol, so i cant really learn much from them but that's my fault i think i need it broken down a bit more, i enjoy watching non pros a lot more and its good to see there progression, erik you've probely already seen my vid it was the not so good scratch vid
  16. Thanks for your response guys I appreciate it, I should of put the vid up so ill try and do that now, I think you're both kind of right I guess there slight variations of similar techniques
  17. I was watching a vid on scratch phrasing last night and on there he did what he called the tigerstyle reverse tear which looked like he was just rubbing his thump up the record while he pulled back and it sounded pretty nice, I just wanted to know if anybody could explain it futher or if there was a video to show it in more detail? It may be just that.... rubbing the record while pulling back, after a little play around with it I was getting some similar sounds but wanted to see if I was actually doing it correctly lol
  18. I learnt it from that german bloke on youtube, its a really good scratch and pretty easy once you get the flow, I do it... (fader open) first half of a chirp forward transform back drag forward (for 2 notes) then just mirror that back from the end point of the drag similar to a boomerang first half of a chirp back transform forward drag back (for 2 notes) I also add 2 transforms to change it up abit hopefully this is the aquaman lol its what i've learnt as it anyway, hope this helps a bit
  19. I've been getting to grips with the fast autobahn and i'm able to do it over a beat after a week of drilling it, once I started doing it constantly for about an hour session as a triplet over a beat my hand just went in to a gimp mode and I went from being able to do it pretty sweet (I even dragged my brother in to show him because I was impressed myself) to being all out of sync, after a break I got back in to the swing of it but not for long as my hand just wasn't clicked when I was trying to, I don't want to get into bad habits by just keep doing it over and over when my hand just doesn't seem to have the minerals after 10mins now, just wanted to know how I can push through it or if I should give it a break for awhile? I just get frustrated with it now lol
  20. Thanks for the advice dooban, I'm going to just drill this pattern into my head this week then play around with it after which I think comes naturally once you get a feel for the scratch, it's definitely a hard one, I agree in finding the slow one harder but I don't like it so much it doesn't have a funky feel or flow as nicely as the fast version
  21. the hard part for me with this scratch is adapting it to a beat because its 9 sounds I finding it really hard, anybody have any tips or ideas? I know this will be the hard part tho... maybe adding an extra sound at the start or doing just half of the scratch at the end of the pattern or something to create a few more sounds
  22. I found a video by that german guy alex of the slow autobahn which is pretty much the same just without the extra transform on the 2part of the scratch which is where I think you pick up fast speeds, once you get your head around it, it isn't a to hard a scratch, it scared me a bit to start with but its just flare type movements starting closed with the correct record movements to match
  23. ive been looking into the autobahn scratch a lot and have spend the day practicing the one from this video which seems like a decent tutorial, I pretty much got down the final pattern that finishes at 3minutes right before he does a variation of it, I found tho that at slow speeds it dosent fit into an equal measure (if that's the right musical term) i.e like 1 or 2 bars, there seems to be an uneven number of sounds, I looked for other vidoes and there seems to be loads of different versions of it, just wanted to know which was the proper one or if there isn't one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcvGfQf0sPI
