  1. Look legit, nice! I won my pair of Butter Rugs. I prefer D-Styles Tablecloths.
  2. The original Mini Innofader in my Z2 was okay for cutting but it wasn't as tight as I wanted it. I had a spare PNP laying around and after the initial headache of getting it calibrated, it runs as smooth as a nut. Sometimes the fader doesn't cut out every once in a while to where I give it a software recalibration and it runs well again. I tried to recalibrate and reinstall my original Mini Innofader and it just wasn't having it, too much lag, awkward cut ins and the recalibration on the fader and software didn't seem to do anything. Oh well, glad I got it running with the PNP!

Finally entered this run around. Got 2nd place in regionals. Not too bad for first DMC but I really wanted to battle Dwells. Apparently the scores were tied and we only had two judges, DJ Swamp and DJ P. I got first place in eliminations though. The DJ that won was from the same crew as the promoter and also from the town the DMCs took place in. Not trying to conspire or anything but I guess it just wasn't in my favor. I don't know if I'm going to enter again because I know another 2nd place would really upset me. Sucks to be that close to winning but hey, at least I entered considering everyone and their mother was telling me, "DOPEZ ARE U DOING DMC DUDE U GOTTA ENTER UR DOPE ULL TAKE THAT SHIT". I wasn't going to enter until a week before the battle when I asked Christie if I could use my Kontrol Z2 instead of a 57SL/62 to which she said yes (Her and Mia are absolutely wonderful people, I can't say enough nice things about them). I then created and practiced my 6 minute set in about 5 days. It was a learning experience, that's for sure.
  4. Oh I thought it was about a regular black 1210MK2. I think $500 is fair for one M5G and $1000 for a pair.
  5. I feel that $300 - $400 a deck or $600 - $800 a pair is most fair entirely dependent on condition.
  6. Three men and a baby.
  7. Too late to post something? If not, I'll have a little something tomorrow.
  8. Nice, is it a 2008 model? I've got one just like that except its got 2 gigs of RAM. Its currently on a fresh install of Lion and it runs TSP2/Kontrol Z2 like a champ, love that little computer.
  9. Hmmm I'd have to say like a total of about two hours a week on the weak side. Basically if I don't have schoolwork or class to attend to, (full time university student now!) I'm at my apartment cutting it up or making beats.
  10. Hey guys, I think it was time for an update for my never ending quest to become D-Styles. Here's a video I shot last night just messing around with some righty cuts, enjoy! Here's the first video I made back in November 2012 getting started with righty cuts
  11. You mean Chicken George and JBoogie??? That's literally who I wanted to see most that night.... the "forgettable acts" I heard that Q sucked tho like you said. This SXSW has totally sucked. The only thing I've done is that first little bit of the Beat Junkies show where I saw ya and a kids show with my son (Peelander Z!!! and Les Claypool!!). Everyone at home as a stomach bug which fucked my whole week. So lame. And I got the wrong size shirt in my Beat Junkies bag So mad I couldnt make the Dub scratch sesh either! UGH! DAMNIT TINA! Well I'm a young snot-nosed kid who doesn't respect their elders plus I didn't know of Chicken George or JBoogie so I guess knowing them will come with age and time. I also got the wrong sized shirt but I was able to get it swapped out for another. Also the Dub Academy scratch session was fun even though D-Styles couldn't show up, he was with Nick Nack and had too much BBQ rendering him to a food coma. Still was a good session, everyone from Houston and Dallas were pretty much there.
  12. I think I have a fun story to share with you all. This past week has been SXSW, a big event with many shows during the week of Spring Break in Austin, Texas. This year I wanted to attend (plus I had a gig for once ) so I opted to stay with the well known DJ Enfoe (still cuts a little and he's still super nasty af). So there was a show after my gig featuring Qbert x Shiftee where all you needed to do was RSVP. http://grownkidsradio.com/sxsw/ Enfoe and I RSVP'd for the show and we were ready to attend. Tuesday night, I finished playing my set at a venue some two blocks away and with my mixer and gear packed into my backpack, I was ready to attend the show. The poster listed that Shiftee would play at 11 and Qbert at 12 with some other forgettable acts. Enfoe and I walked and waited in line for a short while until it was our turn to be admitted. The doorman (who looked to be on some illicit substances) asked for our IDs to prove we were who we were. After a quick check of the IDs, our names were checked off the list and we were going to get our wristbands. Enfoe stuck out his hand like in a catholic mass to receive the body of Christ from our addict priest. Then, me stupidly, I stuck out my hand palms down to show a big fat "X" written in sharpie from the gig I previously played. The doorman looks at me and says, "Sorry man, 21+, I don't want to lose my job, etc... " while his supervisor told me to get out of the line and quit wasting time. I stepped around the gate near the door and asked Enfoe if he wanted to go in and if so I'll just find something else to do. Being the surrogate father he was for those 4 days I stayed with him, he said that it's all good and that we weren't missing much (while hearing Shiftee's Native Instruments routine where he paws at the Maschine like a cat). We waited for a little outside of the venue trying to figure out what we could do. Our of the shadows, in the alley, a mysterious five foot zen presence came into our optic receptors. It was none other than DJ Qbert himself. Qbert bypassed and went to the doorman. Enfoe quickly chimed in and said, "Hey Qbert, it's Enfoe". Qbert looked at Enfoe with an exaggerated smile and like a 33 record played at 45 chirped, "YoEnfoeWhatsGood". Enfoe said, "Yo Q I've got a big fan here who wants to see your show but he's 19 and he RSVP'd..." and before he could even get the words out, Qbert said, "AlrightSeeYouGuysInside! ;)" and disappearing inside of the venue. Enfoe and I looked at each other and not to sound gay or anything, I was really disappointed. Enfoe and I started to walk back to the previous venue and we ran into a local Austin DJ who left the Qbert show for unrelated reasons. He said, "Yo Dopez, take my wristband and try to put it on." After two acts of wrist contortion, a scrub of the sharpie on my hands, shirt turned inside out, hat removed, I was a new person. I walked back twenty minutes later, flashed my wristband to the doorman and was allowed inside. Enfoe followed shortly. I was in the show and Qbert was about to perform. We waited and the man himself arose on stage in front of us mere humans. With a quick release of his left deck, the track began to play. The poster said we were going to get an exclusive performance. I eagerly awaited to hear what sounds would make me wet my panties. What happened next was rad. Qbert let his long, drawn out, imitation D-styles, percussion and bare melodies play out and mixed in a poor fashion. He did his drum routine he's been performing since 2003 and he cut an ahh/fresh for what seemed to be a total of two minutes. Enfoe and I walked out early disgusted with what we had witnessed. As for a conclusion, I don't to come off as a butt hurt fan because Qbert didn't look me in the eyes or shake my hand, but with all the shit on Facebook about Qbert not being who he really is, taking credit for other people's work, it really made me reconsider how I thought of the best scratcher of all time. On a lighter note, Babu, Rhett, and D-Styles were all in town and I got to speak to them for a bit. I met D at a show earlier this year and when I approached him with Enfoe he said, "Yoo Dopez! What's up man!? Good to see you out here! Are you going to the cut session tomorrow at Dub Academy?" I replied briefly and gave him a firm shake of the hand and a pat on the back before he went backstage to get ready for his performance. A great show was had and all was well. Hope you enjoyed my anecdote! Edit: I got to cut with D-Styles for a little bit on stage at the first show I met him at. http://instagram.com/p/jcSzdNyxg2/
  13. He isn't marking the paper, the paper just serves as a guide for marking the locked groove on the vinyl. He's etching the vinyl itself using the paper as reference.
  14. Again thanks to those who've helped. I think this is the best thread I've ever made.
  15. Yes you can and no I don't know anyone who's into engineering. Thanks for your comments and suggestions though. Thank you for your comments and especially to you Rockwell, great tips.
  16. Thank you! Unfortunately, my mastering is very poor as I don't use a real DAW. The drums sound much better in examples like this. I may go back and re-upload it with louder percussion because I uploaded it at 0 db. 19 years currently. Also yeah I've gotten that about the sound. I'm just a sucker for that sampled Madlib sound. Since production's not my forte, I haven't found my proper "sound" as I'm influenced by many producers. If I had to describe a sound that's me, it's cutting a grasshopper breaks volume 1 over a lorn beat. Music that I like that's not "beats?" Honestly I don't know as for me, drums are the most important part of music, I'm much more percussionate than melodic. Like I like the latest trap music to random little indie rock joints just because of the percussion used. Thank you, I know it's formulaic because I arrange songs in 16/8/16/8 without much variety. I'm not like a crazy MPC producer like Disko Dave or any other dope dudes, I'm a person of simple tastes. I like solid drums over a cut up sample with a bassline. That's the best way to describe me. Thank you again for your comments, I love to hear criticisms.
  17. Hey guys, I just released my second beat tape this past weekend. Don't ask about the first one because it's rubbish, haha. But yeah, check it out - buy it if you feel necessary - but I just want to see how people like it. Everything was sampled on an MPC2000XL and vinyl. Thanks! http://dopez.bandcamp.com/ Here's a selfie of me wearing Jon's super sick shirt. Get at him for one.
  18. Damn dude, that's some ill flow. Liking your waves
  19. Yeah I thought it was obvious also. I saw D-Styles a couple of weeks ago and the fact that he cuts over sub 80bpm beats with multi-syllable samples (with fat fucking kicks to boot) is the ultimate headnod. I can appreciate Qbert's technique and speed but in terms of funk D > Q.
  20. Now I need to get back to ATX ASAP for a cutty on that thing.
  21. I used to see them at an average of $600 a couple of years back. Now everyone thinks they're worth $2500.
