  1. Goddamn Jimmy... I haven't touched the decks in a good 4 months. Just watching that shit is proof that scratching ain't dead.
  2. If you can get it off and take a picture of the underside, we can probably figure out without even needing a meter
  3. Didn't you already solve this one? Modded ALPS fader + mini stereo jacks + box + dremel tool The only thing missing from you Rasteri is getting a "round tuit"
  4. Do what Steve said, Reformat the card on a PC (save the data first), then reformat on your tablet second under your settings before you use it.
  5. Denon always makes the most boring Serato stuff. They should stick to what they make best, nothing.
  6. There are a lot of small details there that are nice. I like how light/LEDs diffuses through the (burned?) edges of the red plexi. Seems like you had the right tools to get the job done.
  7. Unfortunately, with a large enough difference in resistance between the pot and the parallel resistor, you lose the ability to cut the sound off completely. I could go into the maths behind this but suffice to say it just isn't a practical approach - it was one of the many possibilities I had to reject when I was designing the faderbox circuitry. Scrape modding is an old trick that people used to do in the 90s to sharpen the cut on faders. You use a knife to scrape the carbon/plastic coating off the tracks on the fader, which basically means the sound cuts in the moment the wiper hits the metal bit. It makes a nasty popping noise though, and as the frisk fader makes a similar sort of noise, this led me to suspect that it's scrape modded. I see. So I guess the curve approaches a limit but never converges on it. Scraping it puts a "hole" in the graph.
  8. Rasteri, you just put an idea into my head. Tell me if this makes sense: The box mods that I build use a 200 Ohm potentiometer, which gives me a linear voltage adjustment of about 3 volts. Occasionally, I use a nicer ceramic potentiometer that I can only find in 470 Ohm, so I use a parallel resistor, usually around 330Ohm to give me my ~200 Ohm. However, it curves the adjustment. Now, 50% of the pot gives me an adjustment of less than less 1 volt, and the other 50% gives me about 2 volts of change. If you were to widen that gap between desired ohms, and the pot's ohms itself - wouldn't that curve become so sharp that eventually it sounds like a cut?? You would be able to take any linear slide pot and make it cut, right? I'm not sure what scarpe modding is, so enlighten me.
  9. If the metal casing is pried off the plastic body - would that reveal all?
  10. Sym, I think you posted this in the wrong thread but thanks for the pictures. There are no other electronics in there besides the fader which is good news. I usually use octopart.com to source electronics from ALL of the retailers world wide - I couldn't find anything. I think the 10KBx2 refers to it being a 10kOhm ... I can't think of anything else.
  11. I get what you mean about 8.1 being good except for the lack of apps. I treat it basically like a windows desktop with the added perks of touch. I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, and I use it in laptop mode while being able to touch and swipe things when I need to. Maybe 75% keyboard and 25% touch. I don't care much for the tablet only style of Windows though. Trying to search for things in settings is really annoying and I feel like I'm running two different operating systems at the same time; maybe you've had that feeling too. To be honest, if I buy my mom a new laptop, and my dad a new desktop they will be getting apple products from now on. I can't tell you how many times I've had to reformat their shit because they fall prey to spyware and clicking things without reading. All they do is browse and play silly games on the comp, and they STILL end up with a lot of malicious software installed. It's like dealing with a child and I can't stand it sometimes.
  12. step? square? a switch? Forgive my ignorance (I really don't know much about audio electronics), but I pictured this thing to behave as nothing more than a momentary switch. Normally closed in the middle of the fader, and open at the ends. Does this thing actually allow you to adjust the curve?
  13. Dopp - The answer to your first question: The benefit to society is that there is no possibility of that person doing the same thing again. I know this is slippery slope territory - but a mass murderer in jail can still kill. When someone is in for life with no possibility of getting out, they have nothing to lose. What about innocent prison guards who are murdered by mass-murders who are serving life? This has happened before and continues to happen. Objectively, I understand the counter argument though. I'm not blindly band-wagoning here and rallying 'round the flag. If just 1 person is executed unjustly, then the law should be done away with on principle. On that premise, my argument sucks. And yes, sometimes punishment is about satisfaction rather than justice - which is injustice - but I look at the after-the-fact concerns as well, as I have written above. I'm not looking to win an argument or change people's minds here - it is more "the responsibility of the 10th man to disagree".
  14. Hard to vote for 1 of them. Biox had some dope really technique hidden in there and was super clean. Scratching on your own Fader is godlike. Chmeilix switched up the samples was clean on the vocals which is just something I like hearing in a scratch battle.
  15. http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/costs-death-penalty Neither do I, which is why I'm against the death penalty. I see what you did there. You're right that the law is not applied fairly, and death should not be on the table for nearly all of those who are accused of it. Cool C was indited more than a decade ago, and the outcome might have been different in courts today. I'm not talking about his case. I'm only talking about the rare exceptions with mass murders, bombers, and those who kill end up killing 25 schools kids - that type of stuff. Very emotional topic I guess. I guess I seem heartless but I have don't have a problem if my tax dollars go to make sure that they never breathe again.
  16. Of course being locked up is an alternative, but does the punishment fit the crime? I guess one could argue that a quick death is the easy way out, and that being locked up = a lifetime of suffering which might be punishment enough - but regular citizens are the ones who end up paying the bills for that. 99% of the time I am against execution for the simple reason that it comes down to biased judgement ie. (a black man and a white women who commit the same crime but get different sentences) - but I do not believe in absolutes either.
  17. I can't really think of an example where prison isn't a viable alternative. I wouldn't say that your view is unpopular though. More than 50% of the people living in the UK believe that the death penalty should be reinstated, for example. One example is the Boston Bomber. Those who kill masses of people with the intent on killing themselves when it's all over, but end up getting get caught alive. Examples where there is no shred of doubt. Perhaps examples where a convicted killer confesses and would rather not live with the guilt and shame? What if we brought hemlock back? There are exceptions to almost every rule.
  18. This one is a tough issue. I don't like the idea of putting someone to death, but there are certain instances where it is hard to see any other option. This is one of my very few unpopular conservative views.
  19. I think some of these are pretty awesome. They remind me of old Ninetndo cartridge graphics.
  20. I actually do it down-up, down-up but I suppose it can be done either way for a different effect. If you do it down-up and want have sound on the downbeats or the beginning of a bar, you have to start the move slightly early which can be a mindfuck for me sometimes.
