  1. The Kinks link was just me trying to cause a stir, but the truth is that I still haven't quite got into the Beatles. When I first got into music, I guess the fact that everybody hailed them as the greatest band ever made me prejudiced against their music, it sounded too simple and ordinary to me. Eventually I grew past that, as my music taste matured, and now I've listened to their records and I can say that I really like some of their music, but it's just not stuff that I find myself going back to on a regular basis, unlike The Kinks, for instance.

    Don't Flop

Haven't seen much of Don't Flop either, but I think Cruger definitely deserves a mention, was really impressed with his recent battles.
  4. It's been like that for years, all he does is vote for his japanese friends, and yet they still invite him to judge the world finals year after year
  5. I stand by what I said. Mac Miller made his song different from the original too - you might not like it, and I don't, but he did. This lawsuit is just hypocritical, Hip Hop has always been about the freedom to reference and use other musicians' creations, and Lord Finesse should know that since he built his whole career based on that premise. Why would he hold it against Mac for using one of his beats in a mixtape? Because "it's ok for a mixtape but you're not allowed to make a video" (words of Finesse) ? Come on, I think you're all being biased...
  6. I just can't agree with this. If we were to respect every artist's copyrights, hip hop wouldn't exist, and I'd expect someone like Lord Finesse to know better. That being said, I leave you with a quote taken from Rugged Man's facebook: “it’s cool if you disagree with his lawsuit against Mac Miller, but anyone disrespecting Lord Finesse & his career needs to shut da fuck up, learn history & show respect.”
  7. Not really digging the Need a Dollar juggle. It's technically impressive, but it sounds kinda boring, unlike the other two - I'm talking about the variations in the original tracks, not how you flip it. This is just my opinion, though, and being such a hit song it might more easily "wow" the audience, like Cirkut mentioned.
  8. well firstly you have to be a DJ to have a DJ name iirc, and usually being a DJ carries the connotation that there should be some sort of skill, I guess that's my only qualm I read your posts with urban dictionary open on a separate tab, lol, it's amazing how much my acronym knowledge has grown thanks to you
  9. Oh, allright, then it's definitely harder to grab the title, but still worth the try. Just don't pussy out last minute and send Jooce instead, ahah. But if you do win the showcase, can't you just enter both?
  10. Not trying to add up any pressure, but Nelson won, why can't you, lol? When is the supremacy battle, anyway?
  11. I went with the first set too. As much as I enjoyed the second one, the first is just more supremacy-oriented, with the orchestral sample and the whole "in your face" feeling. I honestly think you might have a chance at the world title, particularly if the competition is as weak as it was last year.
  12. Two portuguese dj's in the top 3, my country's gonna dominate turntablism for the next decade. Either that or they're just top notch spammers.
  13. Hey Dooban, how much are you asking for your 56? Assuming that you'd be interested in selling it directly and would consider shipping it to Portugal, that is.
  14. Your knowledge of the Portuguese history and culture is startling, although your racist remark about the portuguese financial crisis yesterday was a bit disappointing, not nearly as offensive as the English gentleman who asked me how I had the money to go on vacation.
  15. Yeah, I remember you saying you were going to an Action Bronson show. No biggie, I'll win the portuguese DMC this year and I'll be back in London in October. I just need to come up with a better dj name till then.
  16. *did I meet you, lol. I'll have to reread every single post from now on.
  17. I asked you this yesterday, but since you kindly ignored me, I'll ask it again: did I met you at that Super Scratch Sunday I attended back in March or you weren't even there and I'm just mixing people up? (notice the use of a colon instead of a comma) If we did meet, you'll know that I can't really put my Oxford English to good use, taking me an average of 10 seconds to put a sentence together.
  18. I shouldn't have taken that grammar test, I knew you'd cyberbully me for life. Anyway, comma splices are actually quite common in Portuguese, I don't know why you don't like them.
  19. They do seem cool. I'll probably order a pair, I just hope they're worth the money, I have already spent far too much on serato records.
  20. Wax, where can I find those new ones? It's really hard to find good serato records, the old ones were ok, but since SL3 came out it's like every single pair I've ordered came warped.
  21. Sorry for your loss, Dopp. It's probably not really what you're looking for either, but 'Days', by the The Kinks, would probably be my first choice to be played at a funeral. It's such a great song, always brings back good memories and I can't think of a better way to say goodbye to someone.
  22. If I ran the DMC, you'd be judging every year along with only two or three other people. Nowadays, even some random guy who won the singaporean DMC back in 2003 ends up in the judging panel for the world finals - plus, I've come to the conclusion that even world champs don't necessarily make good judges, that's why I think they should all be made to go through a written test on turntablism history or something like that. Your review is spot on, and although I don't agree with your opinion on one or two things, you've satisfyingly justified each point you made, something I doubt that most judges would be able to do. As for the DVD itself, I also thought it was a pretty good battle for modern turntablism standards. Good to know I wasn't the only one finding it a complete robbery that Mikey was seeded 12th, as he was definitely one of my favourites and I'd have put him in the top 5. Also, I fully subscribe to what you said about good scratchers being valued over good jugglers and some dj's relying far too much on production to make up for their flaws.
