  2. I've just go on the spotify band wagon (as you can see I'm the keenest of early adopters when it comes to technology). Anyway what I'd kinda like to use it for is hunting down new music that I may have missed, it seems you can't really search by genre? I tend to search for something similar in terms of style then start a radio show but the results vary very much. Also when I open it is suggest David Guetta or today it suggest Impress Neo-Trance, now I'm not sure what that is but I'm sure as hell I don't want to listen to it. So any spotify genius go any suggestions on how to find bolivian folk music with an awesome hook?
  3. I beg to differ, run a sine sweep through your monitors at a reasonable volume and see for yourself. Saying that you can learn to compensate as you get to know your room, people have made some awesome music with shit setups but having a nice setup is much more pleasent :-)
  4. First thing first I'd say is try and get your low end sorted, you ever noticed you've got a nice solid bass note on your keyboard and you write a simple bassline and suddenly 1 note sounds twice as loud as all the rest? Well that's your room! You can test is by loading up a synth and setting it to sweep up from 50hz up 200hz (I can can make an audio file if anyone wants one and doesn't know how to create one) and listen to it play up through the frequencies. Unless you're very lucky the sound will dip quieter and peak louder at various points. To treat the room you'll want some bass traps, some are very pricey and some are pretty useless. A much more cost effective approach is to build them yourself which involves building a basic wooden frame, filling them with ridgid fibreglass and covering in a nice flowery fabric. The corners are often the the best places to start trapping bass but in reality the construction of the traps and placing will vary from room to room and I'd recommend getting research on some other boards/sites if you want to go down that route. Once your bass is sounding better then you can focus on treating the mids & tops, some accoustic foam on the main reflection points would probably help. It's a deep subject and if you want to get into it I'd get on line and hunt about if you get too bewildered try and find someone who knows what they're talking about to consult, one thng though, simply buying an Auralex "Studio Treatment Kit" and gluing the panels to the wall will probably cost £1000+ and not really help much so look it to it if your going to do it. If not just try rearrange the room, get a sofa in there, move the bed if there is one, stack some stuff in the corners, move the speakers, just experiment and see what sounds best but if you want to do it properly it'll take some research and effort. 5. I use Mackie HR824mk2, I really like them but they ain't the best in the world. The Genlecs are probably better but for the budget I had I couldn't afford a set of Genlecs which went down low enough for me, so it would either be spend more on bigger Genlecs or get a sub and subs are a pain. Dynaudios are indeed awesome, Adams are good too. KRK's are alright, but if you're looking at Genlecs then you're looking at the next tier really. As for Alesis M1mk2 stay the fuck away from them, I used to think they were good until I tried something different, they really are horrendous. To be fair the Mackies, Genlecs, Adams are Dynaudios are all going to be brilliant for anything you want to do but to actually get your money's worth you'll need to spend a similar amount of cash treating the room (and no that doesn't mean just sticking up some of that foam shit).
  6. I do thinks it's pretty ridiculous that something like this was responsible for the rise of gangster rap and or that it contributed much/at all to the number of convicted criminals. However I'd quite easily believe that a meeting like this took place, crazier meetings than this have taken place all through history.
  7. Yeah I mean releasing the record and I'll post a file soon. The thing is even if I just slow the right down and just try and find the beginning of the word I can't real find it as the 2 words sort of run into each other so I can get that sharp ye ye yeah. Something like say what is completely different because the words are properly separate but some how people get really clean ye ye yeahs
  8. Some thing that really pisses my off is when I see someone cutting with superseal and the sound coming out goes "ah ye ye yeah" This reason it pisses me off is because when I cut ah yeah it goes "ah fdhy fhsy eereah" I just can't for the life of my get the beginning of the yeah, I get it with many different samples, unless you get a nice clean tight start I just can't get that clean chop. Anyone get any tips?
  9. Woody just posted this up on facebook, just read through it and not sure what to thing. Do you guys think a) did this happen or is this a letter from a nutter b) if it did happen did it really make difference to the type of music the labels put out c) would it actually have had their desired effect or just some stupid idea that companies might try in an attempt to get more money? http://www.waxpoetics.com/blog/news/music-industry-confession
  10. At all your people slating Vajra for moving to dubstep, he seems to play different shit all the time. There was a cool video of him DJing some funk at some little out door event fairly recently, this set is dubstep, he's done routines with the type of hip hop I like and the stuff I hate, etc. That's what I like about him (apart from his immense skill), he plays all sorts and even if what he plays I don't like then I'm sure he'll do something that I do like not long after.
  11. I wish that was so but I dispise music at the moment, having a real hard time with it, it's pissing me off (emo moment)
  12. Nah it's not that. I do have the Danger track on vinyl but its got a drum roll behind it, I'm gonna go through Flying Saucer 3 tonight I think it might be on there but if anyone else knows that would be awesome :-)
  13. Where's that sample from? I think C2C and its used in Danger by Special K (a drum and bass tune from before Jimmy know what d&b it was): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gef-3m_7KMo I'm sure I should know this but I don't. Actually I'm thinking it might be on one of the Flying Saucer records? If anyone can help that would be wicked
  14. Of course I do, that's what wikipedia is for.
  15. My run down of the top 10 01 - Taylor Swift ($35,719,902) Is this a he or a she? I think it's a she and I've heard of her (maybe him) but have no idea what the music is. 02 - U2 ($32,116,315) How? Or more importantly why? I hope Bono gave all his to charity! 03 - Kenny Chesney ($29,837,103) Who? 04 - Lady Gaga ($25,353,039) I know she's popular, doesn't really surprise me to see her in this list. 05 - Lil Wayne ($23,178,722) Not a fan, I'm sure he was more popular a few years ago than he is now? But this I guess a lot of this comes from previous works. 06 - Sade ($16,382,809) Who? 07 - Bon Jovi ($15,835,856) Somewhat surprise to see him here. Or anywhere for that matter 08 - Celine Dion ($14,261,515) Never really got why people we so into her. 09 - Jason Aldean ($13,409,011) Never heard of him but I bet he's a cunt 10 - Adele ($13,081,909) Isn't she meant to have a good voice or something? I've seen her advertised on the telly and in papers and stuff so I can understand why she's in this list. So as you can see I'm well up on popular music.
  16. I've got a paid dropbox account and an unpaid sugarsync account, I'm sure sugarsync is great but I only use it to do download some software I bought which the author shares through sugarsync. Even though I'm sure it's just as good as/better than dropbox my main use for dropbox is music project collabbing and everyone is on dropbox rather than sugarsync so it's just easier that way.
  17. winxp 64 is pretty unsupported.

    ethernet cables

Nah, win7 to xp is no problem, unless you enable adsense on your youtube vids it which case it definitely won't work.
  19. Seriously, youtube ads proper piss people off, unless you're making like £50 a week from it or something I don't think it's worth pissing off your viewers for. I've had messages from youtube asking me to enable adsense because I'd reached a certain number of view but unless I was getting 100,000 views per video I would even consider it.
  20. If you enable youtube ads I will never talk to you again!

    ethernet cables

Any ethernet cable should be fine however there are 2 types depending on how you're planning to connect it: If you plugging both computers into a hub/router/switch (so using 2 ethernet cables and a hub) then you use normal ethernet cables. If you are planning on connecting one computer straight to another then you will need a crossover ethernet cable. Saying that I think most network cards these days have the ability to auto sense and change mode so I if it's modern computers you'll probably find a normal cable will still allow you connect directly from one to another. The other thing is you don't just connect at it will work, unless you are going via a router (maybe your broadband router has ethernet ports) and it's configure to be a DHCP host in which case you can probably connect and go. If not then you will need to configure some TCP/IP network settings on the computers. If you get to that point give me a shout and I'll talk you through it. One other important thing is make sure both computers have an ethernet port before buying a cable
