  1. I'm going to be no help what so ever but I wanted to say calculus is my nemesis. I know they touched on it at school but I was stoned/ill/in town/fuck knows that week. Everything I ever want to do in my life goes great until I get to an equation involving calculus and this happens with everything. About once a year I pick up a calculus book to crack it but ends up to busy to get anywhere, really wish I'd taken maths/physics/electronics/beauty a levels rather than a stupid it gnvq, fucking waste of time! Rant over
  2. Glad you like it guys, definitely got more of a late 90s/early 2000 feel that something modern but that was my era for dnb
  3. A track me & a mate just finished for pumpkin night http://soundcloud.com/dublemon/abstract-dub-lemon-halloween
  4. Installing serato updates doesn't loose your crates. You could always make a copy of the crates first to be sure, I'm not sure where the files are stored on a mac but someone on here should be able to tell you.
  5. I forget who it was who paid someone to develop a magic trick (which was sabotaged) for them in a very early DMC (was it DJ Cheese?)? Is that any different?
  6. That's actually pretty cool, can really follow the record movement with that, it you could combine that with some method that really captures the fader movement too that would be amazing
  7. I don't think it matter, I think all the different methods are fine, however to really judge a competition the rules and limitations have to be clearly defined to compare like with like fairly. Saying that I take the DMCs as a bit of fun and entertainment so I don't think it matters but it might feel some what different for someone competing at the world finals. I'd actually love to produce a routine for someone, I got some amazing ideas however sadly I don't really have the time to make the commitment.
  8. In terms of making quieter words louder then yeah compression is probably the most obvious way forward. With EQing for scratching I'd say it's pretty important to cut some of the bottom end out but in terms of any other EQ it's down to taste I think really.
  9. QFT I have no idea what that means but when I find out I'm gonna bring the pain!
  10. pretty sure I'm gonna be there for the friday, fuck supporting vekked though.
  11. Nice review, lol @ all the measurements though..."quick, I got a new mixer, must measure all the dimensions" Still extremely helpful review for a mixer that I'll never afford!
  12. Not really been massively productive musically lately...partly from being too injured to use the computer for long periods of time and partly from being a musical retard and suffering from epic bouts of writers blocks. Anyway I listened back to a few bits which I wasn't particularly happy with at the time but now think they have a bit of appeal so uploaded them, all just free downloads and all quite different so maybe some of you might like some of them... http://soundcloud.com/dublemon/dub-lemon-changes Let me know what you think :-)
  13. As far as I'm concern the companies should add all the fancy features they like so long as the fundamental features solid and designed as well as possible, it's then up the user to decide how to use them, With regards to steve's comment about CD being the most pointless DJ medium I disagree on the grounds that it's by far the easiest format to use - no heavy vinyl, no wiring up a DVS, no lugging a controller, saying that USB pen drives would be better...or how about a cloud based record bag Some people will make a positive use out of them, others will be lazy, check out the Kissy Sellout pioneer video if you haven't already, I was recently alerted to his DJ skills and while I'm not a massive fan I certainly like the way he plays.
  14. That bored the hell out of me, Enthusiam: 92% Musical Perception: 99% Emotional Connection: 57% Soclal Creativity: 22% Musical Curiousity: 90% Those scores mean I'm unable to write music
  15. Don't have one, the only listening devices I have are my studio equipment and my phone.
  16. This is what I'm saying, would you go and see someone who didn't play tunes...the just made beats and melodies and shit on fly? Head nodding but completely unique and not recognisable.
  17. This has been something that I have been wondering about for quite a while, everyone complains that using Ableton Live for sets isn't really live and it's just playing pre-beat matched tracks or (if you've heard the recent deadmau5 rant) playing a backing track and throwing some effects on it. 2 things I think about this are: * if you're gonna mix tracks digitally use traktor or some other dj software as it much more suited than Ableton. * it's pretty hard to actually break down tracks into a way that they can be reconstructed in different was because the elements are generally made to work together in the way they are arranged. The exception are people who mash up lots of bits of tracks together and there are some out there who do that really well. Anyway, what I think is it would be much better to just build a Ableton live set with lots of different elements so you can jam stuff out on the fly and not necessarily play fixed tracks, it would be much more live and much more interesting rather than trying to recreate fixed tracks. My questions is basically if I have a something where I could play an hour set of my beats, riffs and sounds in unique sets is it worth anything. Basically if you can keep a dancefloor jumping for an hour with music that no one is familiar with and also have no tracks to give away/sell at the end of it do you think that it would be a bit of a disability? I find people go out less to hear new unheard music these days but rather go out to hear the tracks that they like...thoughts?
  18. I think what deft is saying is the xml file contains the complete path to the files, you can't just move an iTunes library and expect it to work, the xml file would have to be updated with the new path and as far as I can't remember its a bit of a mare to do. Also if it work on his computer when the drive is plugged in then it will only work on yours if it assigns the same drive letter to it as that's part of the path...assuming it not Mac nobs.
  19. I've not read all the replies as I'm about to go home so someone might have already said what I'm about to say. I found nerves went away once I realised that it doesn't matter if I fuck up or not, I remember the specific night that I realised it. I just thought I was gonna have some fun and didn't care if I fucked it or not and suddenly everything went right. Saying that I don't battle and imagine the pressure not to fuck up is harder to shake in that circumstance. The second point is I reckon you probably got nervous due to trying to live up to your performance from last year, maybe you feel that because you wussed out decided not to compete in the worlds due to your routine not being up to the standard you wanted that you feel worried that if you don't do something to a much heigher standard people are going to not respect you for building up your abilities being much better than you did last year. I'm sure that's not it exactly but at a guess I reckon there's some elements of that in there, I don't know what the answer is but I would say 2 things to bare in mind are... 1) Don't hang on the fact that you froze, just try and pass it off as a 1 off, if you hold it in your mind you may well freeze again. 2) However badly you fuck up your skills are sick and people know/will know that, a bad day is just a bad day, if you have one you'll have a good day another time. Just enjoy the moment and do your best and try not to get to fixated on the result. Good luck
  20. I don't know for sure but since a wedding is a private party I would say it's not needed, I'd have though PAT testing was ott too tbh. Congrats tho!
  21. Fuck no, hd25 are great djing headphones and I like to use them when recording vocalists but don't try to mixdown in them. Check out Beyerdynamic DT-990pros (or 880s or 770s) and Sennheiser 280 (and I think 260s). Also the new KRK ones are supposed to be pretty good so I hear. hd25s are loud and punch but far from flat and the bass is crap and to top it off the are not comfortable when wearing for extended periods of time, the DT-990s I could comfortably wear for my entire life.
  22. funtcase & stenchman often wear masks however I think your best bet is to go as tim exile
