  1. Good work Loop! I really like that. The MC reminds me a little bit of Josh Martinez (which is a good thing ). Your beat is great, and works really well with his rapping. You should definitely do some more work together.
  2. Just put DS2 on download from Steam this morning. Can't wait to get home from work now and play it!
  3. Damn that was some nice cuts Jon! The "say what" parts were funky as hell!
  4. Forget about them Chris. Come stay with me instead. I've got a Jacuzzi, own bar, private masseuse, you name it. Ok, made that bit up, but I make a mean Chili Con Carne.
  5. Cheers Wax. I'll try to go though the tutorials tonight. Youtube sounds like a better option than shelling out 187 quid for a one day Ableton course.
  6. Hello people, I'm considering getting into production. Just so I can (or at least try to) make my own beats to cut over, and make some scratch muzak (maybe the odd remix and some EDM tracks further down the line if I get my head around it). I just installed Ableton Live yesterday and I have to say it all seemed very overwhelming. I'm usually pretty quick at picking up new software, but this just seems really extensive and complicated, so I ended up just staring at the screen totally confused. I've never touched any music production software before so I don't really know where to start. Is it possible to pick up the basics from online tutorials alone, or would you recommend doing a course (I saw that London School of Sound has one day courses in Ableton)? Is it essential to get a controller straight away, or can I get away with just using the software for the time being (can't afford a controller right now as I'm saving up for Traktor and a laptop) Any input/help/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Soren
  7. Never got around to playing Dead Space. Is it worth playing through before starting the second one? I read that the controls are pretty clunky in the first one so that kinda put me off it. Have you played Amnesia Steve? It's supposed to make you piss your pants
  8. Gang Starr - Step In The Arena > No More Mr. Nice Guy
  9. It has changed a lot since those days. I used to play CS as well and hated Steam back then. Nowadays it's more like a digital distributor like Direct 2 Drive and all those. They have amazing sales on sometimes. I bagged GTA IV for 5 quid, and Dirt 2 for 3.95 in the last sale!
  10. Yeah you can get Steam for Mac now as well. Quite a few good games there now. You can get Team Fortress, Left for Dead 2, and Half Life 2, and I think they did a Mac version of Dragon Age as well.
  11. I was always a Nintendo guy. Had the NES, SNES, and N64. Then I went on to PC for 4-5 years as I mostly played FPS online and the consoles couldn't do that yet. Then got an Xbox360 a few years back but sold it again after about 6 months and went back to PC again. I just couldn't go back to console. I mostly play FPS and RPG's and prefer the mouse/keyboard combo for these types of games plus better graphics. I've got an Xbox360 controller for Windows as well for racing games, GTA and those types of games, so for me it's kind of the best of both worlds.
  12. Thanks djdiggla. I nearly bought those, but then found a really good deal on some KRK Rokit RP5G2's. Just got them set up, f*cking awesome to have speakers again!! Thanks a lot for your help though!
  13. Apologies. I don't know what I was on about. Maybe because the sound quality is not so good and I listened to it on one of those tiny little travel speakers (I'm still waiting for my new speakers) so I couldn't really hear the different samples and it all just sounded like the same to me. So don't mind me. I'll lay off the crack immediately!
  14. I thought it was pretty good mate, you should definitely stick with it! Perhaps try to add a bit more variety instead of using the same sample the whole way through, and maybe some breaks instead of constant scratching. Turn off the beat, bring it back again and so on? Considering you don't practice much anymore it's pretty damn good though.

  16. I'd probably be a 7 then. I've built a few computers from scratch. I can use both Macs and PC's equally well. I know Creative Suite, XHTML/CSS, plus various Content Management Systems inside out as I work full time as a Web Designer. I also know how to implement jQuery and PHP scripts, but I'm no programmer.
  17. I think the first time I heard scratching was when I bought Gangstarr - Step In The Arena in the late 90's. I didn't really have a clue how it was done but I thought it sounded amazing. I then met a Scratch DJ later on through a friend, and was instantly fascinated with the whole thing. I saved up for some decks and a mixer, but I didn't realize how important the mixer was for scratching and bought the cheapest Gemini mixer I could find and spent all my money on 2 brand new 1210's with Ortofon carts/needles. Crossfader started bleeding after about a month and I never really got further than stabs, babies, and forwards. I tried using the line/phono for a while but was so frustrated that I ended up selling everything as I thought I'd had to spend another small fortune on a new mixer, and I didn't know what techniques to practice anyways. I still regret doing that to this day. Didn't pick up decks again till 3 years ago and I can't stop thinking how much better I'd be now if I had just stuck with it back then.
  18. Aloha, I'm looking for some decent active speakers for mixing and scratching (and perhaps a bit of production further down the line) and was hoping you guys can recommend some. My budget is around £150 but I'm willing to rape my credit card a bit if it's impossible to get something decent for that price. Thanks! Soren
  19. Sorry Diggla, completely forgot about this thread. I didn't mount the speakers myself. It's my landlord who built 4 speakers into the ceiling, so I just figured I'd make use of them. I think I'm just gonna get some active speakers instead now actually. I'm not bothered setting it all up if I end up moving out at some stage anyways. Can anyone recommend some good active speakers in the £100 - £150 price range?
  20. Cheers Matt. Good to meet you guys. I think I'm gonna buy Traktor instead, just cause it's cheaper.
  21. Amazing how much Matt looks like George Clooney!
  22. Yep that's me. Few years old though, but hopefully I haven't changed too much. I'll wear a viking helmet and bring a bag of pastries just in case you don't recognize me
  23. Yeah I'm coming, so we're minimum 6 so far! I'll probably be there at around 8ish.
  24. Thanks Cambian. I can rest easy now! I'll have a look at the ground wires and connections when I get home.
