  1. Curious as to what LED Buttons you used....got a link? Are they momentary push-button?
  2. You know what you're talking about better than most people do! lol Yeah it still kills me that most 'pro' cameras won't shoot legit 60p in 1080 but a friggin CELLPHONE will....I'm STILL waiting on a prosumer camera that will do it and Canon has been crippling their cameras so you HAVE to buy the $10k+ models....I can only do 720 in 60p right now on DSLR but hey first world problems I guess?? As for the shutter speed thing...ideally the shutter should be 2x the FPS (i.e. 30p shoot in 1/60....60p 1/125) the idea being that you want to eliminate frame tearing as much as possible otherwise it can look especially ghosty...:/ The lenses themselves haven't really changed....Panavision just changed the camera bodies and left the lenses intact as good glass is good glass! If you are interested in this sorta thing you should watch the Keanu Reeves doc 'Side By Side'....they talk all about the digital conversion the film industry went through, pretty good doc actually (esp for film nerds).
  3. Just re-read my prior post...I gotta stop posting drunk/tired hahaha. You know what, you're right about the Avatar thing, my bad...its the next sequels that will be shot in 4k and 48p....and sorry I wasn't more clear I didn't mean exposed twice but rather should have elaborated that its just double the fps which was only really useful for things like 3D and 240hz tv's (no need to add/remove pulldown by the tv if the fps fits a multiple, hz wise) As for youtube, not many cameras shoot 1080p 60p anyway, which is why I said about most footage being 60i/30p... and at 60p it simply looks a little TOO real for most people....a bit jarring if you ask me.... Also to further your example about smoothness and fps...also take in mind that smoothness/sharpness of each frame also would depend on shutter speed and global shutter (to avoid sway/jello). ....the only movie I can think of that actually used 60p to its advantage was the 'Crank' series with Jason Statham....but then again it lended to the look/feel...can't say the same for vlogging. :/
  4. EDIT: For vlogging...not really necessary as most 60fps is interlaced and not progressive frames 60i = 30p (in NTSC)....so unless you REALLY enjoy video game capture videos its basically a waste. Even at 48fps those progressive frames are just doubled so things like motion capture, 3D and CGI work better as there isn't as much 'tearing' of the frames that you would traditionally see in movies that are just shot in 24fps. Anything 60fps and beyond is only useful for capturing slo-mo footage....so yeah...you aren't missing out on anything.
  5. Close but Chinmachine was a little less in the pocket compared to biox this time around....biox ftw just by a hair.
  6. Sy was better composed this round...gotta give him the W!
  7. Caught the first show of the tour here in Toronto...super enjoyable and really tight set...they gave it a lot of thought and really flipped a lot of stuff I didn't expect to see/hear. They even used some vintage drum machines for parts of the set....that along with the visuals throughout really made for a dope show!
  8. Have to echo what Broke said....Steve, have to give due props for the hard work....not too many people would take something like this on (and do it well), so thanks for even asking for feedback and actually implementing ideas when possible. As for my comment about the 2nd beat...you guys have made a fair point too about versatility, have to admit that... ...just my own personal reaction, when I know I'd prob wanna rip into something a bit different...it will be interesting to see how people approach the next round.
  9. I agree with Broke....I was going to say the 2nd round beat was....not very inspiring to be honest...I get it when beats are 'challenging' or out of left field but they should at least urge people to cut....I'd be hard pressed to really go off on the next beat. Perhaps that was the idea?
  10. Not so much an organizational thing but as a note to competitors....I ended up skipping over quite a few just due to bad/quiet/room audio. I can understand poor video quality but there's no excuse for a *DJ* to not know how to at least record something passable. Perhaps a 'how to record and submit your video' thread is necessary as its a shame that some may miss out on doing well/better cause the quality of they're recording is bunk.. Just a thought! Otherwise, great entries...had fun watching them! - B
  11. Thanks guys! Sy, can't wait to pick up those copies of your rec...gonna post some more when I get a chance to mess with em.
  12. That was proper! The end was sick...liking the use of the drumming and loops.
  13. Got 'called out' for this #djskillschallenge ....which is apparently a thing now? Couldn't be arsed to do another take after this as my Mini Inno started bleeding....dammit! Since I'm here, off the top of my head...I'm callin out Symatic, Chile annnnnd....Broke! No time limit...no due date...just p05t a Phyl3 and make sure to call someone else out and post it on FB with the hashtag #djskillschallenge Cheers gents. - B
  14. Well 'Dirty South' as a 'style' comes from a few places....DJ Screw (imho) even tho he didn't produce really influenced the tempo/style of approach for producers and you can still hear it in music today (trap).....as well I'd have to credit UGK for really pioneering that style a bit more......808's and snare rolls don't = dirty south anyway so I don't think its really accurate to say it goes back to miami bass other than similar drum sounds. I'd also credit Master P (yes really) as he was making that type of music since 1991. Its a hard question to nail down 100% but ya.... Also Rockwell really hit the nail on the head....also good points.
  15. Pete, what bitrate are you rendering the mp4 files at?....and what about the ogv? If you are already compressing the mp4 quite a bit then again for ogv it might not look so great. If you can't renderout ogv files natively (which I know vegas doesn't) I'd recommend rendering out as a high res file (mpeg-2 bluray) first then use a program caled 'super' for your 2nd gen render. http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html Might help you control your bitrate a bit better. ....worth a shot! - B
  16. Gotta give some props...really impressed with how they maximized the medium....vinyl hologram!
  17. I saw Zero 7 live before...pretty library-ish if I recall...
  18. SHieeeeeeeet....Sy went in on this one...I might have to P0$T @ PHyL3 later. Nice cuts man!
  19. Man, unless you are using the original master tapes from the studio sessions and splicing it all and printing it back to 2" tape YOU'RE TOTALLY CHEATING STEVE!
  20. When I was younger, still living at home and practicing hours a day my sister would complain about "ALL I HEAR IS CLICKING AND BREATHING!" Hahahaha.
  21. Great work Sy, gonna purchase this for sure.
  22. Well, 'shooting the gift' is just another way of saying shooting the 'gift of gab' which of course is just...rappin! As for BDK its 'butter knife'...hence the machete lyric.
  23. Thanks man! ...always appreciate the compliments...you got mad flow too man! Respect.
  24. Def some good crit...Rockwell nailed most of it! My only crit would be until you have a better handle on the 'making/mixing' of your music you should refrain from trying to sell your beat tapes...as I wouldn't shell out $5 for styles and samples I"ve heard before (i.e. the fancy clown sample). Having said that I hope you continue to do more and work on your mixdowns for your tracks...cause as many will attest to...a good beat is only as good as its mixdown! Keep it up! - B
  25. Q hasn't been listenable for almost 20 years IMO....D all the way.
