  2. The internet scratch is actually a combo, but the internet combo didn't sound right. It gets its name from the WWW record pattern. It's a 16 note pattern and it sounds like ha ah ha ah ah ha ahhh ha ah ha ah ah ah qwrqefuqwiojgfp3q428tu139889347102938754098725 Boot Device Not Found Please install an operating system on your hard disk Hard Disk (3F0) Enjoy.
  3. Thanks Dirk I'm glad you're getting something from them Adz - Thanks They're either modifications of existing patterns or stuff I've discovered on my own. I try not to cover things that are already well understood. The point of the oddity series is also to show some of the weirder stuff. Also I wouldn't say I've invented anything really (can't patent a motion). I have discovered things though that either aren't part of the vernacular at the moment or are known to only a few people. In my experience people that say they've invented scratches tend to have bloated egos as that term is linked to ownership. I'm not directing this statement at you btw, its more a pet peeve I have that I thought I'd attempt to explainificate at the risk of sounding like a massive twat : )
  4. https://www.patreon.com/djchile Follow me @ https://www.facebook.com/dj.chile1/ http://dj-chile.com The silent Baby Flare is an example of using silence to change how a pattern interacts with the regular time beat. With one beat of silence we can transform a basic pattern into something a bit different.
  5. They're fundamental in the sense that they are a root pattern that leads to a bunch of other combos (california rolls etc). I don't use them that much because they hurt my hand, but check out fakser for some cray crab combos.
  6. thanks guys chuck me some change so i can upgrade the mic cover to a windshield
  7. https://www.patreon.com/djchile Follow me @ https://www.facebook.com/dj.chile1/ http://dj-chile.com With specialisation, we temporarily limit our pattern use to 1-3 techniques in order to spark creative experimentation. Ratio Alteration allows us to easily create new variations by focusing in on and altering the occurrences between patterns used.
  8. its identical to chirp 2 click orbits, so the fader pattern is repeating in a pattern of 1, 2, 2. i put up a pic on my instagram of the similarity but for some reason its not linking in this post.. heres the url anyway www.instagram.com/p/BF2jEinI9-J/ if you're having a lot of trouble with it try learning the balanced hippopotamus to get the hang of the different record motion
  9. The BRB Hippopotamus is a simple combination of a baby scratch with a reverse balanced hippopotamus. A beat of silence also helps push this seven rhythm scratch into regular time. Remove the silence for cross rhythm fun.
  10. Sort of. You could probably still get something interesting from longer chain combos in multiples of four, like 12 or 20. 3 and 6 pattern scratches are also not that interesting for that effect because with a 3 pattern its just too short to really develop much before it resolves on the twelth beat, and 6 patterns interact with a 4 count too much (it only takes two repetitions of a six pattern scratch for it to resolve on a multiple of four - 6, 12, 18, 24). The evolving sort of sound is just a feature of how the rhythm has to interact with a four count. If you check the diagram below and find the row for 4 and compare it to the row for 5, 7, 9, 10, 11 etc, every four repeats of that number interacts once with a 4 count and you can visually see it moving from one beat per repeat until it hits that alignment to the 4 count. That has a lot to do with the evolving effect since the pattern is constantly moving it's alignment from where it was previously in the four count.
  11. The Twin Chirp OG combines 2 chirps with a teared OG Flare, creating a 7 beat cross rhythm pattern, which sounds like its evolving each repeat when really its just sat there chilling watching game of thrones. https://www.patreon.com/djchile
  12. practice a lot so you can fall back on that when you get nervous.. but also its good to think of mistakes as things that make you look more human, less robotic and easier to relate to so actually try to make a few intentional mistakes at the beginning. Smile while doing this and look around at the audience. they will mostly not give a fuck. That should make you less afraid and more willing to take risks, which tends to make for more interesting freestyles, mistakes and all. If you're afraid of mistakes you're going to stick rigidly to what you know and that will be boring as fuck for you and eventually people pick up on that. Also if your cutting with friends remember they're your peers, not your competition. It's childish to think otherwise. Bit of friendly competition is ok, but if you're trying to dominate everyone you're just damaging your own practice time by defaulting to the shit you already know just to try to impress people.
  13. yeh the daredevil one seems to be as abbott described
  14. Yeah I'm gonna invest in a wind shield to see if it does a similar job to the pop shield, as thats what covers most my face up. BTW If you're thinking of becoming a patron, the rewards are handed out once on the first of each month after payments have gone through, so its worth getting on it before May starts if you want to get this months loops and TTM sheets!
  15. Thanks guys I'm glad you're liking them. Was a bit mental doing the whole camera spoken thing at first, but it became pretty fun as time went on and now I'm looking forward to doing it again in the next episode. Planning on doing one of these heuristics a month then 3 oddity series for the other week releases. Thanks rasteri will be glad to have you on board
  16. Restriction games can be used to help organise our scratching into a variety of distinct sections. They're also very useful for creating new habits of playing through experimentation. They can be thought of as mental post it notes, which apply a loosely defined temporary rule in our playing style. This provides us with a theme to play with that helps focus and simplify our creative decisions by greatly reducing our options.
  17. The alternating chirp balanced hippopotamus consists of two balanced hippopotamus' which are spaced out by repeated sequences of 1 and 2 chirps. This particular pattern starts phased at the closed point of a chirp, increasing its weirdness factor by 34%.
  18. I have a 3 TB external drive that I store an image of all my other drives on every few weeks using macrium reflect. Steve got me on macrium a while ago, its real easy to copy multiple hard drives with it.
