  1. Me & a guy I use to live with used to watch that video over and over and over. Super dope, but the hi-hat pattern on Funky Drummer sounds like it has way more 16th notes on the actual record. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when it was recorded (not that a fly would have the cognitive apparatus to decode polyrhythms in any meaningful sense). RIP This was my tribute from many moons ago. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/drunky-fummer/id392315493?i=392315522
  2. I have a USB drive for my S900 now. Cost about £30 for the hardware and the software to flash the drive. The USB stick acts like 999 floppy disks.
  3. I have a 60 and an s900. The main thing I notice is not so much the 12 bit sound on its own but how HEAVY they sound when you overdrive the inputs a little when you sample.
  4. RIP -a true visionary A beat battle would be a fitting tribute. I would love to get involved - new job and new baby allowing i.e unlikely :-(
  5. I actually think the MPC Live looks good feature-wise. I would be interested to know what the actual work flow is like. If I didn't have the 1000 already, I could see me preferring the Live to Maschine for example.
  6. Isn't that the Quartz lock button? Newer models have no zero notch on the pitch fader so thats for setting it to exactly 0%. Oops jam beat me to it.
  7. I'm out of the loop with laptops at the moment. I want to get one for my Mum for christmas. She enjoys surfing on her phone so was thinking of getting one of the touch screen ones. Are there recommendations for good quality mid-range ones? I probably wouldnt want to spend much more than £500 (It will be me and my sister's paying for it). My wife got a good Sony one a few years ago (that i use now because she got a mac) but they don't do laptops anymore. Anything similar quality wise at the moment? Also Scratch live compatibilty is not important , as i think she's ready to switch to Serato DJ.
  8. It's a just a cheapo peavey one. I'd like a decent kit at some point. I took some time planning the organisation- I've had too many wasted hours in cramped ad hoc spaces over the years.
  9. Here's my new set up. I'm so pleased its finally done. This was meant to be finished in August at the same time as I moved back to Leeds and started my new job. It took a lot longer than that, but I won't bore you with the detailed account of my frustrations. This is probably the best I've had my equipment set up in terms of ease of use and not having to unplug everything to use kit in different ways, so I'm looking forward to using it. EDIT: Oh Shit - just realised this is my 808th Post!!
  10. Damn - & i thought mine had picked up some free air miles. My fader arrived last week. Loving it so far. I'll be selling my OG raiden soon if anyone is interested.
  11. Multi-band compression is helpful if its certain frequencies you want to control. Also for kick & snare sratching . If you're using DVS. Pan the kick & snare on your audio file first , then you can record kick and snare scratches onto separate channels without having to chop anything afterwards. You might want to sum things into mono for monitoring purposes.
  12. You'll definitely need to use Scratch Live rather than Serato DJ. As far as the Mac thing goes - I'm not sure as I use a PC. If it does work in theory, it would be well worth plugging in a week or so before to iron out issues and tweak your set up. I had issues with my 57 & Windows 10 but once these were sorted it outperformed ny previous setup.
  13. My fader is now back in London. I was expecting to adjust the cut in distance, but a 5,288 mile overshoot is a little much. #faderperformingactualorbitsofplanetearth.
  14. Cheers man. Yeah I've already been in touch with them. I'm hoping its heading it's way back across the Atlantic!
  15. I'm living back in Leeds now after a 4 year stint in Derby & Nottingham.
  16. The UPS tracker just said my package arrived back at the UPS facility in LA
  17. For the UK guys how long did it take you to get your parcel? My UPS tracker says it landed at Heathrow on the 22nfd but I still haven't received or heard anything. Cheers
  18. I haven't got mine yet, but I've had that before when buying stuff from the states.
  19. It is until you play 'Laura Palmer's theme' by Angelo Badalamenti, throw on a generic house pattern on a 909 drum machine and occasionally shout "Go" Naaah . Diss Moby & love Twin Peaks all you want but "Go" is still ill.
  20. The "ow" sound here at 4mins10 was the first thing I tried to copy. The track was on my older sister's copy of Deep Heat 89 compilation.I used her Sony Hi-Fi turntable, the circular volume control "fader" and no slip mat. I turned the otherside of the record grey! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fbHOAbOcNI https://youtu.be/7fbHOAbOcNI?t=4m9s "Scratch where you like!"
