  1. nor me, still. i found that the tear movement sounds cooler when you play it back to yourself than when you're actually doing it though, for some reason! need to do a birthday file today, blow out the cobwebs...
  2. it's not like they've got you at gunpoint though is it? 'bound to have loads of bugs' is a loaded statement if ever i heard one it never ceases to amaze me the sheer level of hatred for microsoft, at no point, ever, has someone come round to your house and beat you up until you used microsoft products. at no point, ever, will someone come round to your house and beat you up until you use microsoft products. there's always been alternatives to microsoft products, and why nobody votes with their feet if they hate microsoft so much is beyond me. i think a lot of people say they're sticking it to the man by using pirated copies of windows, but almost every time i'll bet that the main motivation is actually greed, and not only that, but by illegally using windows you are making it a shit ton more difficult for microsoft to keep a lid on things, provide support, and help to improve the computer experience. why does the money behind microsoft make so many people call it evil, why is there this invisible, arbitrary line in the consumer capitalist sand that once crossed takes you from being a loveable success story to an evil corporation??! envy, plain and simple. microsoft have made computers as standard a household appliance as an oven, and i just don't understand the argument. have they done some dodgy stuff? sure. have they, on balance, done a whole load of cool stuff that nobody else has done anywhere near as successfully? absolutely... by the way, a fully licenced copy of windows xp will also be given away with windows 7.
  3. i've answered my own question- or rendered it somewhat moot at least: june 10th 2010 (http://www.palluxo.com/2009/05/03/microsoft-1-year-free-windows-7-till-1-june-2010/) very cool!
  4. tuesday is public release of the release candidate, and the email i've just got says it's available to download at least until june 30th. it doesn't say when it will deactivate, although it does say that the rtm version won't be upgrade compatible. first off how does that work- logically, i mean... it's either the release candidate or it isn't, right? if it has no potential to be the same as the manufactured version then how can it be a candidate for rtm?! am i making sense? presumably there's a date lockout, even though if it's a true release candidate there shouldn't be- because if you don't use the computer online it's not going to be able to phone home to invalidate your testing period product key and you could feasibly use it without paying.
  5. it's not like they explode or anything, it's just that the whole "THE ULTIMATE FADER" thing was a bit exaggerated considering that it requires the same and in a lot of peoples' cases a lot more maintenance than any other contact fader. there also seemed to be a disproportionately large group of people saying there were manufacturing problems.
  6. ah interesting. i haven't tried the innofader yet but i definitely prefer the weighty feel of the pro x to the total weightlessness of the eternal, from what i can gather the feel of the innofader is more or less a halfway house between the two which sounds cool. as far as the eternal's issue, the problem is that people who aren't used to how light it is and have developed bad habits from cement like unlubed crappy things have actually bent mine within minutes before, only a tiny bit but enough to affect the smoothness by making it scrape the guide and also fuck up the cutoffs like you say. it takes much less than a mm of lateral movement to affect it. i hear the innofader is the absolute hands down most sturdy feeling fader anyone's ever used, with zero lateral movement- this sounds cool as hell and i'll probably end up getting one for the 06 that i've got lent out at the moment so i can sell the hak (i fucking hate being so skint i have to sell things i actually use and enjoy). thing is pro x was the messiah for the first few months before people started daring to pipe up about its problems, i wonder whether there will be any innofader backlash in a couple of months or whether it's actually nailed... hm i appear to be waffling.
  7. as a complete guess, i'd say that not cutting properly at a certain angle is down to the tolerance issue of the fader. because it's got two ends and we're dealing with measurements of nanometres it's extremely difficult to make it mechanically precise and sound- and you might have to put up with a slightly larger than perfect amount of cutlag on one side to guarantee a full cut on the other. that's what the eternal's like anyway.
  8. i think i've finally gone completely mental, i'm hearing latency in my setup when it's not there. phile will get posted later
  9. very nice. i'm gonna record one too. this can be the kut klass appreciation thread lol
  10. macbooks being silent is a con, to run quiet you need to be doing literally nothing. anything involving standard computery stuff makes them run FAR louder than any other laptop i've ever heard to keep cool. consider whether the fans going is going to make any difference when presumably you'll be kicking out constant music from it. as far as laptop this laptop that, literally any laptop (standard, not those stupid ultra compacts that are half an inch thinner for twice as much and half the power) you can buy today will run traktor absolutely fine, especially if you're going to be using an external audio interface. go into pc world and check which brand has your favourite ergonomics. as far as the useless crap, just get all the drivers for the components on a memory stick and pop a copy of xp or windows 7 in and 'destroy and rebuild', complete reformat. problem solved.
  11. i like it! just had a 10 minute cut over it, i'll probably go back to it later too
  12. apparently windows media player from version 6 onwards will play aiff. i'm sure i remember sound recorder being able to load and export aiff files as far back as win95...
  13. i thought anything that played wav played aif?
  14. by the way *snort*, does your wife know you're a bender? *hnnnnnnhghhhnnnppffffft*
  15. i love the little mistranslations that arise from american-british english!
  16. for your sake, hopefully not mine- as you'll probably get the living fuck stomped out of you while i scream like a mix between the hulk and joe pasquale being pinched. not smoking is turning me into a complete and utter mentalist, it's a bit scary.
  17. the beat is really good and your emcee has very good flow/sense of rhythm. but if you want me to be honest, you really really need to get him in to record again, preferably after getting him sucked off, into a scuffle, and halfway between one party and another. he sounds like he's reading off a piece of paper and there's no passion and i wouldn't even consider being this blunt if i didn't think he was one of the better emcees i've heard in a while at least potentially. his sense of timing is terrific and his lyrics are good too, but his delivery is just a monotone and could be so much better. the beat's nice, personally i think it's got the nuts to handle a much bigger snare and a constant splashy hat, ride, and crash cymbal accompaniment. if i don't think something's strong i don't tend to comment on it much, i think you're really close to something that's really, really good here foly, which is why i'm saying this. you may, of course, think my opinion ain't shit which is fair enough of course. good luck anyway
  18. if of the 5 people in the scene breaking documentary two of your subjects have what appears to be an ad hoc marriage and one of them is a transsexual... statistically you're going to have difficulty persuading people you're not all crazy
  19. that's genuinely funny wax, clothes, voices, script/ad libs, i am seriously impressed! listen to suspect packages radio show this month, mandem from hinckley with a very similar accent to myself, except they have one of those 'we know we can't get away with a full 'road' inflection so what we're going to do is meld it in with our actual accents a bit so we can say it's just rubbed off on us and it's how we live' affectations. the i vowel being closer to 'oi' than 'aah' is the unhideable leicester sound, and the more common you get the more 'er' sounds like 'o' (as in little O). depending on what gizmo ends up doing, you might hear me on the forthcoming skratchworx video feature on maschine.
  20. oh it is now. maybe i was so on the freakin ball i outdid zshare for a second there
  21. another foolproof way to remove the earthing issue from techs would be to connect it to the earth loop in the the transformer. ...right (i don't want to blow anyone up here)?
  22. well diggz you've just won the best american award for acknowledging that it's called earth not 'ground'. from me, no less- so i assume you're extra chuffed and foly i sincerely doubt you care but i love your luddite arse just as much as all these other people i've never met on here, just in case riding on you for a few posts made you wonder x
