  1. Lost Planet is winding me up- I'm only on level three and there's a big thing, which is admittedly very impressive to look at, that keeps coming out of the floor and eating me before I've got a chance to do anything. It's annoying. Half Life 2 is also annoying me, but I think it's because I played it too long yesterday. I am at Ravenholm now which iirc is just under half way through? Great, great game despite its flaws, and I didn't realise how much I'd forgotten either. Am looking forward to finishing it so that I can get onto the episodes though. I want Beautiful Katamari, King of Fighters XII, and Banjo & Kazooie next. Are there any platformers for 360? What about decent adventure games?
  2. You look like Simon Weston you look like a bumhole.
  3. Command line ftl, I didn't spend close to a grand on a typewriter! I was using those archive library shell extensions (technical terms and me don't really get on sometimes so) but they didn't work with passwords, so UnRarX for passworded stuff, until this point. This is so much better. Honest.
  4. http://www.macitbetter.com Three years after getting my first Mac, I've finally found a piece of archive software comparable to WinRAR. This is full GUI, will open just about any archive format you can mention, no problems with passwords, and you can 'open' the archive just like WinZIP/WinRAR too, no need to extract it immediately. The icing on the cake is the quick look integration (optional download). And it's not pointlessly bloated like StuffIt. It's not free, I think it's nagware like WinRAR. And to make RAR files you need the RAR libraries. I'd literally given up hope of ever finding this software, assuming that the awful archive compatibility of OS X was just one of those guilty secrets that Mac users don't talk about. I'm very chuffed. Cue someone chiming in with how this/a superior alternative is common knowledge....?!
  5. I'm envious, I never got to play that one for more than 5 minutes! Street Fighter 4, and I've just borrowed Lost Planet, which seems quite good, and Orange Box which I'm really looking forward to playing because I never played Episode 1 or 2. Or finished Portal. On the flipside, I borrowed Alone in the Dark and had to switch it off after 45 minutes, it's the most godawful dogshit I think I've played for quite some time. I also borrowed Gears of War and got mind numbingly bored with it within an hour and a half.
  6. is it just me or is the background moving? i had to close the window it was making me poorly
  7. hating yourself and having a lot of pent up anger
  8. Is there absolutely no way to get music onto your hard drive other than ripping CDs? I don't really want to rip CDs (and in some cases burn audio CDs of things that are MP3 only, then rip) if I can help it. I already have the music I want as MP3s as MP3s. Why is streaming it off a connected device SO SLOW? I have tried two ways: usb connected flash drive, and networked MacBook. Both are painfully slow if I choose more than one song. One song is alright (although still quite slow, especially off the flash drive), an album takes about 20 seconds, and forget putting a gig or so on shuffle, you'll be there all day waiting. My mate's does this as well, his flash drive is a bit faster than mine though (for some reason my Zen Stone thing is slow even when connected to a computer) but it's still a problem. I'd have thought if the implementation of in game music was really this poor, especially considering how much of a major draw over PS3 it is, that I'd have seen it pop up a few times on various fanboy sites etc. Because I haven't, I'm hoping it's something I'm doing...? Also, if I do copy stuff over by ripping CDs, will it be immediate?
  9. I'm pretty bad too, what's your gamertag let's get some games in I know what you mean about the stick. I am just starting to get used to the pad, I feel like for every fighting game you have to get used to the pad again because the rhythm and style of play forces your hand to do different things. Some of the more complex dash cancels and stuff are murder with a pad but they start to sink in after a while. Sticks are fucking ridiculously priced at the moment though. I'm thinking of making a few with full Sanwa parts and selling them for around £120, which should shift considering the TE edition RRPs at £150 if you can find one (although game.co.uk does seem to be in stock now finally), if not you're looking at £175-225 from profiteers.
  10. if game have got a preowned premium then it's £130 with a free game from a choice of four, including gta4. forbidden planet will trade gta4 to the value of £17 and sell ufc for £40, so you end up paying £153 for the pair. if you have those two shops in your area that'll be a difficult price to beat- the xboxes are fully refurbed, mine looked brand new and was in all new packaging etc, full guarantee. in fact the old 20gb version is £110 still with the free game, and the book is apparently scanning and saying the same price for the new version but the nerd went and checked with the boss. i was having a good day and was thought best not to overdo it so didn't argue, although i usually find computer shop people are quite accommodating if you mix up just the right amount of nerd and psychopath in your demeanor. i might have to get in on this ufc lark, i'll download the demo tomorrow and see if i can figure it all out. oh and jon, it's on. i'm gonna grape you. for decades and decades.
  11. haha i'll add you guys when i can drag myself away from sf4... i am on a 100% negative rep btw because i beat a crybaby (apparently i'm a pathetic spammer and people like me ruin it for the rest of you), is that going to cause me a problem??!
  12. Weirdly I don't have any buyer's remorse which makes me think that this was definitely the right decision despite the fact I'm skint. Got a terrific deal too. Who wants a kicking on Street Fighter 4?! My Gamertag is "Tuff Chris", haha.
  13. I have played the demo, initially I really enjoyed it because of the violence, but the amount of controls was a bit meh- too much of an execution barrier. I think it was just the demo but we had absolutely no idea how much life anyone had either, and I got turned off after full mounting someone and punching him in the face literally 20 times only to then come back to standing and get kicked in the face for the KO (the kick being the only hit landed on me). Also, the same attack sometimes KOs and sometimes doesn't, like the running knee and the spinning elbow on the characters on the demo, we played a few games with them and sometimes they'd flash KO as more or less the first strike in the match, sometimes you could get five or six of them out without a KO and we couldn't figure out why. Also, submissions game seemed to be a mashfest to see who could spin the right stick the fastest... Also, and I know it's like this with all sports and not pure fighting games, but the fighters aren't balanced and that's a huge thing for me.
  14. Wow, thanks so much Tom. I hope that didn't take long. I think you've basically nailed what I want to do, I'm not 100% sure but it looks like it. I have made a real hack job of it myself, and it does look alright at the moment but I will start cleaning it up with your page as a guide. I have used margins and a mixture of variable and fixed page widths and it's got the spacing pretty much okay, I did end up making the main column variable width but it's probably for the best actually and it looks alright, but because I've used margins and botched the floats and stuff there are issues with putting a background in, space in the columns ends up being 'there' even though there's nothing in them if you know what I mean. Thanks again for the demo though, it's extremely clean and just what I needed to see what is really actually happening, as I have basically been learning via trial and error when hacking the Blogger Minima template. I'm hoping to get the design pretty much finished, or ready enough to go live at least, by some point tomorrow. Not too far now, clean up notwithstanding... ps- by the time I saw this post you'd already made both your edits so I'm not sure what was in them before...
  15. I've sort of done this now with variable widths, it's not spot on but it's about right- I made the main section 50% of the page and the right hand margin 25%. It suddenly dawned on me that that was basic arithmetic for making the main section always go smack bang down the centre line. Then I just gave the main and sidebar section the same float value, which makes them sit next to each other. Without even setting the margins for the sidebar it's forced to play nice with the main box, and because it's only 120px wide I just changed the right hand margin of the main section to 20%, which doesn't centre the two perfectly but seems to give an acceptable margin of error up to at least 1280px wide. At extremely narrow or wide page widths it starts to look off, but I think I'm on the right track and will just have to look a bit harder at the maths... amirite?
  16. I am trying to make what I think is an extremely simple layout for a website. Basically, I want the main column and the sidebar column to be centred with a fixed width in the page, and the footer section to be a different colour and have three columns (with a wider width than the main section, possibly variable I haven't decided yet). What I have done is made the outer wrapper variable width, to ensure that the footer section's background setting completely changes the full width of the page, and then specified widths for the sidebar and main wrapper. I can't figure out how to get the columns to sit side by side though... if I don't specify any alignment then they jump to the left of the page with one above the other. If I use 'margin: auto' then they centre, but still one above the other. How do I make them sit next to each other? Do I have to make the main wrapper 'margin:auto' and then put a table inside it with the content and sidebar in it? All I really want from the sidebar anyway is an image with a link at the moment. Hopefully this is just stupidly easy and my fundamental ignorance to CSS and any HTML developments since 1998 is the problem here. Can anyone help?
  17. POW. bloody hell. the faderless stuff was so clean that i thought it was a mime for a moment cus you weren't clicking. so trif.
  18. OH COME ON SHINE IS A CLASSIC!!! dub fire is great, i had no idea that that would go under 'reggae' though, i would have classed that as dub, so is dub a sub genre of reggae? i thought it was more a 'sister' genre, if you know what i mean... see i am completely ignorant really. i'm gonna have to go and do some reggae reading i think... i'm still completely confused because now it appears i do in fact like reggae.
  19. i like barrington levy! :$ i am so confused as to what reggae is to be honest.
  20. the actual style of music no, but don't you think that vocally they sound incredibly similar?
  21. lol wax isn't it funny the coded messages r kelly sends in his music about the fact he's a paedophile... i'm not going to anymore matt. i am not doing quotes properly and this is getting extremely confusing.
  22. no, sorry. it's not as if it's my least favourite music ever, i would rather listen to it than that super mega death metal where it sounds like black sabbath on fast forward with a pig being spiked over the top, but just every second it's on i get more and more frustrated with it. i can't quite put my finger on it.
  23. he's better than the average 'forum rapper' but... well there's some potential, let's put it that way
