  1. Hello squire! yeah im pretty good considering ive had bout 5 hours kip in 4 days. :s How ya doin? Site looks fkin great btw. Yeah i considered a reinstall but the problem is with the E partition. The os and all apps are on c. @ dextrous: you are completely right there. Ive always had a seperate drive for audio but when i got this audio ran fine off E. I guess the extra fragmentation etc is causing this maybe. Its is weird. 1 audio file should be able to play back ok. Cheers for both yer replies. Considering gettin 1 or 2 10k raptor drives. scsi speed http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/wes...#aHD_2d007_2dWD
  2. Hello, I have 2 hard drives. Main drive is serial ATA (120GB) partitioned into C(20GB)(os), D(20GB) and E(80GB) and i have an old 10GB IDE drive for audio. I have a lot of samples stored on E and whenever i try and sequence any of them in sx i get cpu overloads. Have tried defragging it with other utilities than ms (perfect disk) and that reduced the overloading a bit but its still almost constant. I get no such glitchin from the IDE drive..... So basically my sata drive is fucked right? A friend suggested it may be due to havin ide and sata drives in at the same time but it worked fine a while back. Considering buying another sata and gettin shot of the ide but maybe its summin else.. :s Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Havent found any info on this specific problem anywhere. o1k
  3. Cubase SX all the way. havent tried audition/cool edit tho, i use soundforge for editing. What can audition do that soundforge/sx cant?
  4. P4 2.8 gig, cubase sx, soundforge, softsynths, vstFX, keyboard, v-sampler, outboard mixer, bass guitar and various mastering software.
  5. well it depends how much you wanna spend and what features you want. Lots of people seem to like the m-audio keyboard/controllers. [oxygen8 -£99] http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=produc...midicontrollers Or for more money you could get a keyboard and a seperate control surface. Check out everything you can really till you find something that u can afford/does what u want. another thread here about this: http://digitalvertigo.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1241
  6. well....i just mess about, im certainly no expert on such things. I like presets really, despite the fascism often a good starting point for a sound. I spose its what you do with them that counts. Its more fun to build em from scratch imo and you can tweak em easier cos you know how they are put together. Takes a while to get anywhere with it but tis worth it. What kinda sounds do you wanna make? A basic tip might help someone: Pick yer synth, create an initial/default patch by resetting all envelopes[a0,d0,s127,r45] and filters to fully open [LP 12db] so you basically have 1 osc running. save it. Now you can build yer patch. work out what kinda sound u want. Mix oscillators till u have a rough approximation of the texture u want to subtract from. Use detune, or modulate some of the oscillators or whatever. Then use the filters and envelopes to sculpt the sound. use modulation for movement over time etc add effects when yer done save as whatever. repeat. try different combinations of envelope/lfo speed/depth modulating filter/osc pulsewidth/osc tune etc zeta has massive possibilities for this kinda stuff. bass basics: for subs/basses use a square/saw osc [x3 or 4] and lowpass filter [24db] and pull the filter down till it removes the higher harmonics, maybe boost the resonance to enhance the cutoff frequency a bit. for techy lead sounds: detune saw waves, modulate sync or pw, use widebandpass/hp filters or swept notches. Basically though if ya wanna learn about this theres shitloads of tutorials online. search for subtractive synthesis first as most vsti's are subtractive. Also check out fm/additive or modular synthesis as well. deffo helps to have some kind of midi controller too. Then you can PLAY music being able to audition sounds across the keyboard helps tons. Often you wont realize how dope a sound is low down for example. Hopefully it will have a mod wheel and pitch bend then u can set these to control some part of your creations. Anyway enough ranting Hope this helps someone. o1k
  7. yeah i just couldnt be bothered settin each channel to "can hide" each time i load it in fresh. Lazy i suppose. I did have a few crashes though and cpu usage was about triple battery1. "apart from having a huge mixer" You probably know this but top right of each mixer strip is an option to can hide. Then if you select hide all strips set to can hide (or summin similar) on the far bottom left of the mixer they all bugger orf
  8. Yeah z3ta+ is a wicked synth imo. Really well laid out gui, super versatile, Phat!. Presets are trancey bollox but who uses presets anyway? :E
  9. Yep thats true. A shame as they had added a few nice features. Roll on the next release.
  10. I reckon its gonna be a while till sx3 is "out", apparently it has some hardcore protection. Also heard the teams are waiting for nuendo to be released to do em both at once.
