    Drum scratching

Ahaha thx man.. thats exactly what i was talkin about.. the dynamics.. and all them complex patterns.. u exactly know what im talkin about when i say drum scratching (dont want to say that u other skratch nerdz don't know what im talkin about hehe). Now i just need tips.. ive been practicing... (yeah i used to play kick snare half beat all the time also (boom tak boom booboom bak).. ahah do you have an email.. we need to chat man!! msn! or skype !! mine is neopandorex@hotmail.com!!
  2. myspace is not crap .. serious it allowed me to discuss various issues with a lot of my role models.. but anyhow... yeah sometimes it bugz or the player freezes... But yo... a good advice i could give you..(being a musician myself..and being surrounded by a lot of people who study muzik).. Find peepz that are good at what they do... its all cOol..i mean if u can find a real dope bass player who can do tapping, knows his licks by heart and everything... go ahead.. but keep something in mind : Cohesion. If a band wants to achieve its goals.. than everybody must work in one single way... even though perceptions vary from one another(which makes a band really dope)... I have a rap posse with friends.. we didn't release anything.. we're underground becauze of our lazy asses.. but the thing is.. we're 5 TOTALLY different people... who really come together as one... we all rap different styles... one plays bass like a god.. one is a battle emcee.. one is a real dope lyricist.. one is abstract.. i scratch and make beats (they produce 2).. and we just all come as different versions of the same entity.. we really feel that (im not a karmic wannabe ahah). anywayz.. just to show that what makes a band a real nice project..is the cohesion between its parts. If u ever saw the roots perform live (hehe i saw them 4 days ago )... then u know what i mean! peace and really good luck.. and keep in mind that things change and evolve.. the thing is to adapt Lam
  3. Yo.. it all depends on the sound you want to get! You see.. i truly believe that u can do anything with any piece of material.. but its just that some stuff kinda drives u more easily into a particular sound. Like say.. if i use an sp-1200 to do clean muzik... ill have to put a lot of time on hiss removal and shit (if i ever get to remove all the dirt this peace of junk kan put on samples.. i luv it ahhahahahah) Personally... i started makin beats by the end of my 2nd highschool grade ahah.. and i did it with Fruity loops.. because im in a lot of sample work. Then i got into reason cuz i wanted to explore compositions. If you want to make some "huge productions with a lot of effects and compositions, reverb and stuff" then just use Reason.. with a midi keyboard! Now if u wanna get more into sample work because ur a crate digger (like i mostly am) ... just get fl studio... and sound forge.. start chopping things(from cds and vinyls please.. mp3s really suck.. i know i do it way too much)... Fl is simple and is kinda oriented just like a hardware sampler. It only plays the sound when u want to... but it has some pretty cOo| features.. if ur a lot into old school hip hop .. more purist shit.. or even electro... itll do the job i promise! (again... its all about what u can do with ur material) Personally... i do my stuff on fl.. add sum effects on reason sometimes.. but it didn't do the job for me. Plus my ass owns an Mpc 3k ... and all of you who said it wasn't what they say it is.. its because u tried the newer versions.. the 3k (like the sp 1200 and the mpc 60) is da bomb man... But again... there's sum stuff u can't really do with it easily and that has more chances to work on a comp.. the best way is to experiment and try a lot of stuff.. but once u get into something.. stick to it and tear the shit out of the material u have! Yo i have a freind who does REAAAAAAAL DOPE SHIT (i mean like.. with his own style.. he could start a label) and he only uses Cool edit pro... nothing else.. he just knows the program by heart.. and that'S the important.. no matter the limitations! trust me. yeah but ill say : Fl studio : sampling is dope Reason : mad possibilities for compositions and effects Hardware : if u have a lot of patience and like that analog feel! A combination.. once u know what u want! Oh and i sample everything through my PMC 05.. ! oh and if u have a tight budget or questions about beatmaking : neopandorex@hotmail.com.. ill be pretty happy to help u with the things i know about making muzik with low budget! Ive been in this thing for sum like 5 years. intensive.. ask my girlfriend ahahah Peace all o' yall.. make us bounce! im off Lam

    Fader grip

Hehe yo guyz...(and maybe girls) This time im wondering if there's any good or bad way of holding the fader.. since im a hamster cat.. i hold the fader with my thumb and my two middle fingers... in an abstract way... u see... i don't really hold it.. i just kinda guard it! My crabs are always hard to do (i didn't practice them that much). So.. do you think its because of my hand position (logically... it would help since im already on the third finger!) I see a lot of dudes gently hold the fader with the fore finger like if they were pinching it.... but again.. i know it's all about ur own way and style.. Anyhow.. comments??

    How do I mix?

There is beatmatching... and there is harmonic mixing ... u guys know about harmonic mixes?? I know a bit about it. Correct me if im wrong cuz its been quite a while and it's not like i tried ahah but : The first step is to find a way to know the key in which the song is played (like the notes that's used to build up a melody)... if u did a bit of piano u might know what's a chord.. and what's a key.. But if u didn't, then just go over the internet.. There's some pretty nice explanation!... since u'r into old music i think ull get it fast). Now the fun part : Now that u know the key of a song... u can use this bit of knowledge : each time u change the pitch by 5%, u change ur key by a semi-tone... (lower or higher.. depending on ur tempo variation). So a perfect-promiseland-mix would be both beatmatched and harmonized beats! ill let u do the math! I'm really really dumb at mixing.. but a veteran turntablist friend of mine explained all this stuff to me and i was able to get it *well if im not wrong* cuz i play a bit of guitar and my ex-girlfriend used to explain me that piano stuff (mad props)! Some programs like Traktor.. automatically give u both the pitch (key) and the tempo (bpm) for a song.. so u can calculate all that stuff! Plus, u can use it with final scratch...to play whatever song u like without paying a single buck... and make artists poorer.. and fuck up the whole musical industry... ahaha no seriously.. if ur like me ur not into that digitalscratching thing.. but it can be a useful alternative! But like they said.. start beatmatching, once u get used to it it's not that hard! But that's kinda advanced stuff Im out! peace yall.. and if im wrong.. please corect me:D Lam

    Computer noise:P

damn did i say phono.. im dumb.. phono's RCA right... i was talkin about a normal output.. u know like the ones u have on discmans (1/8 jacks)... that causes a problem??? or is it the computer noise... Look : -the audio source is the computer ... line out (1/8 jack).. that transforms itself into stereo phono RCA (white/red)... -The Stereo RCA goes into my Vestax pmc 05 III line in... then.... I hook up my Mixer output to the mpc 3k phono line (1/4 jack mono) i can also hook it up to an rca entry (there are both on an mpc)... So it does : Comp out (1/8) to Mixer line in (rca) Mixer output (rca) to mpc (1/4) = noise Do you have the answer? What should i do... should i buy one of those expensive sound cards? or am i just a wire dumb peace

    Feedback

I was wondering if you could help me with that one 2 : Like scratch perverts do.. u know using feedback ... by hooking up ur mixer to ur mixer... how do you do that.. i really know nothing about that.. besides that its DOPE peace out (3rd time) lam

    Computer noise:P

yeah ur right... about the low pass filtering.. it just gives a lot of fatness to sound (negative fatness) ... but only 10 less is okay man... im doing a lot of sample flipping so it kinda helps to glue everything together... since the 3k has really good compressors (especially for low frequencies.. i guess )... about my sound card.. man i don't have none.. thats the problem.. i use the phono output of my computer (thats hooked to the "original" sound card that came with the pc ... )... i saw a couple of sound cards that just are CRA-Z man.. but right now i can't afford it...! U seem to be well rounded ... ahah i have messenger : neopandorex@hotmail.com ... add me if u wanna.. im always online peace Lam
  10. Hey i know several topics can be found on this subject... i read them and it was cOo|... but that's not what i need... I've been trying to drum scratch lately (ive messed with it since the beginning so i get the basic picture)... Since i'm a former bboy.. i already have some kind of ... rythmic sense... (plus i make beats with an mpc ... which helps)... and when i jam with firends.. i'm usually the rythmic part so my problem isn't about rythm... its just that im SO SLOPPY... U know when i watch videos by the likes of Q-bert and A-trak.. or i.emerge... they always scratch MAD drumlines... fast as hell... so fast that i cant understand their techniques... are there any tutorials avaliable?? I noticed few "tricks" eg: sometimes they would.. scratch a bass drum snare.. and use the snare itself to create some kind of pattern.. like a reverse snare cut to emulate some other drum sound?... or they would.. start kinda flaring a Kick Snare thing very fast... (im note sure of that one) but it seems like some kind of automatic pattern (like crabbin) .. more than a combo... anyways.. i know its really abstract.. but any help will be welcome Oh and i also want to know if u have any tips on... getting really fast flares... (im hamster) ... at some point like i said.. it seems more like an automatic motion than a concious thing ahah.. hey peace !!
  11. Hey.. i know this is a scratch oriented forum... but i'm into beatmaking also.. lately.. i hooked up my mixer to my computer... all sent to my Mpc 3k through the Phono input... but my computer seems to produce some kind of noise.. and with the eqs i can't seem to reduce it... if u wann know what im talkin about..put on some headphones hooked to the comp... and put ur volume to maximum ... ull hear some kind of eletro-hiss thing... I found a way of reducing that shit by lowering the Frequency of my samples (u know the old effect that kind of wraps the sample)... but its not famous cuz it kinda remove all kinds of sharpness in sounds... is there any ways/gear to remove that shit!!!!! thanks... oh.. and is it a good idea to sample from my comp (i also sample from vynil)... peace out
  12. Hi, Im Lam ... I'm young, i have money, i like action movies with brawl and motorcycles and cops but horror movies i like also but sometimes its too gore and it gets dull. I lift more than 2 times my weight so the trainer said it's pretty impressive so i can tell im special in that way. I like eating a lot of vegetables and i also like swimming but meat is good also.. hooters make good food. My favourite movie was tokyo drift because of the cars. I love them it was fast and really sick man. I can get romantic sometimes, if you're a fine chick pm me. If you're a guy and you lift weights , how much do you lift on the bench press? I'd like to meet people with a perfect six pack so we can compare. or hot chicks. Fcuk you if you got hairs or aren't popular in your school... Ahaha no serious.. im a young bboy (since 5 years) and a turntablist since a year and a half (don't know if i can call myself a turntablist.. i just started beatjuggling (there's been a thread about juggling hamster because of me hehe.. go peep it))... Ive also been beatmaking since quite a while(5 years)... i just turned 19 hehe. I use flstudio (shit rocks) and an mpc 3k (shit reaaaaaallly rocks but costs a lot)... hooked up to my pmc 05 III and my mKIIs... if ur new to scratching... and are afraid to post about some stupid shit... man... the guys on this forum are SO NICE .... realy... i appreciate what u do for turntablists guys... i hope itll make me a better turntablist so i can beat ur little asses at dmc world.. nah kiddin ahaha:D Peace to all of yall.. from uk... canada... lebanon... polland.. angola... and even zektar
  13. Hey thanks peepz.. U surely care for ur pairs! It helps me a lot (im the dude who wrote that letter).. welll.. i started cuttin basic scratches normal style.. because i saw tigerstyle scratch both styles.. and ... against any expectations.. it helped me a lot to cut better hamster style.. i guess your brain gets a better understanding of the crossfader when u mess a bit with everything!! u know.. like if i jump a 4 feet gap.. then i do it with my eyes closed... itll become so easy eyesopen .. im pretty sure u understand... But for juggling.. im still lookin at it.. really don,t know... i juggle a bit... and i do it hamster style.. but i find it really difficult to scratch in between.. and everything.. i mean. it might look stupid but "why is it bad to juggle hamster" (i know it's not bad.. just.. its a bit trickier.. like cutting normal style) .. i try to understand. i just know u have to pull the fader so that takes longer... but.. i figured out it was "wrong" because everybody did it normal (even q-bert at dmcs). u know... ahah:D hey but thanks peace
