  1. Vestax mixers aren't THAT bad. I use my PMC-05 with a Pro X Fade to scratch. Granted, I haven't had it very long, but I like it a lot. Then again, I use my Rane a lot more just because it's a motherfucking Rane and the faders on it are sex...
  2. No, that's good, thanks. How is that Stanton 680 cart for scratching? That's what it is, right?
  3. Can you take a picture as to where the switch is? I'm thinking of buying a HTD 4.5 from American Audio and it would also probably have it at the same price.
  4. Thanks. haha, yeah. I need t o install the Compact Flash reader in my MPC...I have the drive, I just have to install it. It's a lot more reliable than ZIP or floppy drives. Thanks. I like the Zen Touch too, but I personally feel the touchpad is too sensitive, even on the lowest sensitivity. But, I got it for free, so I can't complain.
  5. Well, I just got it and tested out the upfaders, and the sound was quiet enough for me at 6 that I was able to cut with it going down to 6 and up just fine. This is WAY sharper than my Rane, which has really linear upfader curves. So I like it a lot, besides the fact that it's also way stiffer than my Rane.
  6. My setup in my dorm room: My 1200s with Rane TTM56 and Vestax PMC-05ProII with Pro X Fade Close-up of the Pro X Fade The current source of where the beats I scratch to come from when scratching with a friend (since both of my turntables are taken up then) My MPC2000XL My K2VX synth, underneath my bed because I ran out of space, lol.
  7. Weak...haha. Well, I'm getting it in 10 minutes. We'll see how it turns out.
  8. haha, well, I already bought it, so I don't have much say over that. And I wouldn't be scratch that much on it anyways, it's more of a secondary mixer I scratch on when I go home from my university.
  9. Did you flip the switch to the sharpest setting on the upfader? I found it in the manual. Apparently, on the physical upfader (after you take it out) has a switch which lets you flip to three different places, each being a different sharpness for the upfader.
  10. Oh, really? I heard you could change the cut of the Pro IIIs underneath the faceplate or something like that?
  11. I'm planning on getting a PMC-05 Pro II sometime soon and fitting it with a Pro X Fade (for secondary scratch mixer use), and I want to know how sharp the curve is for the upfaders in case i want to do some cutting on the upfaders and whatnot, as long as how long they typically last. Thanks.
  12. Weird. My MKII Pros were fine, but, I see where you're coming from. Thanks.
  13. Also, I heard about those problems with the regular PDX-2000s, not the newer MKIIs and stuff, with the newer streamlined platter. I only owned mine for a few months, but during that time, they gave me no crap whatsoever. Seemed damn solid to me.
  14. Hmmm...these problems all seem to be on the original PDX-2000s. Anyone know of any of these problems or any other problems on the newer PDX models?
  15. What is wrong with the PDX? It's reliable, enit? I owned a pair of PDX-2000MKII Pros, and they worked great.
  16. I have the same wobbly problem with my TTM56, but since I squeeze it tight between my decks, it's not a problem. I like the feel of the upfaders, but the upfader cut definitely isn't sharp enough. Also, my left upfader is a bit thinner or something, so if you're doing quick cuts on it, the fader knob flys off (and I've tried to fit on the other fader knobs from the crossfader and other upfader on it too. Same problem with all of them). That said, I love my TTM56, definitely one of my most prized possessions. If I were to get another mixer later on though, I'd either get an Ecler HAK360 or the Vestax PMC-08. I saw Muzz's demo, and goddamn, it seems sexy.
  17. What kinds? Because I only hear of the stylii on the Q-berts breaking, not any other models. And my Elektro holds really well while juggling.
  18. maximum weight always, there ain't no other way Hmm...well, I use 3gs, and it's just fine. I think the maximum weight might be the reason why you're experiencing so much wear...
  19. haha, I don't work for Ortofon. As I said, I just got an Elektro to record on and my eyes just opened. heh. I have considered them. However, I heard the Elektros stuck to the groove real well, has even better sound quality, and those I've talked to who use it say they haven't had a problem with record wear for it. I mean, if the Elektros are cheaper, sound better, have less wear, and only have slightly worse grip on vinyl than the Q-berts, then why not get the Elektro? So I did. I also like the all white color scheme better than the black and white color scheme. And I am very satisfied. EDIT: Also, what weight do you use them on? Recommended is 4gs, but I'm using 3gs and it's holding on just fine. i'd have them as light as you can without skipping, to cut down the record wear I'll try that, thanks. How long have you had them for, and how's the wear? And what is the weight and height set to?
  20. heh. I have considered them. 21. haha, I wasn't trying to convince you to use Ortofons or anything. I was just saying. I think I'm going to keep my M44-7s as a backup once I get my other Elektro.
  22. Meh, we might get different results. I haven't noticed anything. And they don't stick as well as the M44-7s. M44-7s are still king in that category. They do stick very well though, like I said, pretty close. And I'm doing everything. Lasers, scribbles, juggles, which of course includes lots of backspin, lots of demanding scratches, and they can hold their own. Not as well as the M44-7, but close. You might get different results though. I'm just laying it down, putting it out there.
  23. that guy probably works for ortofon. all i know is that the scratch and the qberts will burn your records, haven't heard about the Elektro tho, how much were they?? I only got one (I plan on getting another one soon), but that one cost me $70, and it was the cartridge kit new, so it came with the case, brush, cart with stylus, and extra stylus. And I haven't noticed anything with wear after scratching the same spot a lot of times. And it sticks real well to the groove, close to the M44-7 in my opinion.
  24. I don't know...I've been juggling and scratching with them for hours everyday for about four days, sometimes juggling/scratching the same spot for twenty minutes, and I haven't noticed the slightest bit of difference. Also, I was juggling with the Elektros, and they rarely skip (just like the M44-7s). They also sound great. Some people have different experiences with different cartridges. One guy had his records torn to shreds with his M44-7s (or so he says) while experiencing no wear with his Ortofon Scratches, and one dude had his record torn to bits with his Ortofons (also so he says) while having no trouble whatsoever with his M44-7s. I've tried out other Ortofons slightly before, and had no problems then, and after using these Elektros, I've noticed no record wear and have no problems now. I think I'm one of the people who had good experiences with both M44-7s and Ortofons. I know I'm going to buy another Elektro to use on my other deck. I'm keeping my M44-7s, but I'm going to primarily use the Ortofons. Call me stupid if you will, makes no difference. My eyes are fully opened to Ortofon now.
  25. Oh, don't get me wrong. I fully agree. I'm not replacing my M44-7s, I just got the Ortofon for recording (and a bit of scratching on the side). I know the M44-7s are the best for scratching and juggling and stuff (I scratched the same part of a record for a really long time with both needles and the M44-7 skipped maybe once [which was actually my fault], and the Ortofons skipped a few times), but I was really surprised by the Elektro. I didn't even take time to break it in and the skip resistance was very good. Maybe after I break it in, the skip ressitance will be much better.
