  1. well is this really a 'DRM' type of issue? It seems the new ipod shuffle just doesn't have any inbuilt controls so the only way it can be controlled is by headphone controls - which I assume is why the headphones need a chip to access the internal controls. Other headphones do work but you just get continuous music with no control. I haven't seen confirmation that the chip is an authentication chip - ilounge just made an assumption it was and everyone else has picked up the story from there. It's still a bit shitty if apple make manufacturers buy their chip in order to be able to contriol the shuffle though. But non standard interfaces seem to be apple's speciality - mini displayport anyone? Bottom line is when every other tech company is losing money, apple are still making billions. They couldn't give a fuck about what consumers want, just what they'll pay for. ps the shuffle's arse and I wouldn't buy one anyway. End of problem.
  2. Yeah and a fast discharge would be necessary if electric cars are ever going to be able accelerate to any decent extent.
  3. Sorry my bad, Why you customising xp to work like OS X then?
  4. MS really have ripped OS X for 7 haven't they.
  5. The one I posted? It's from a series called Nathan Barley. I suppose if you don't know it, it wouldn't make a right lot of sense.
  6. I can never look at stuff like this without thinking about Noel Fielding in Nathan Barley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iZBWLs8owE
  7. Either way, I can change it. To be honest I'm more into checking how cold she is though....
  8. Yeah Oxfam and all the big ones are rip off bastards. Plus all the drivers nick anything worthwhile off the van before it makes it to the shops. You need to find the one off charity shops run by a couple of doddery old ladies. There's gold in them thar hills.
  9. I assume they're not friends or anything? Get you business head on. First off choose a figure based on the type of people they are and the venue. If it's a village hall you don't quote the same figure as if it's a palace. So let's say you quote $750 - check the reaction. If there isn't a murmer you add.... "of course there's my travel expenses on top of that". Still no reaction "that's based on playing until midnight... I can go over but then it's $100 an hour.... plus accommodation, bar bill, food" etc etc. until you get some sort of a eaction then you hold up and maybe chuck some of these in for free. Hey you're a nice guy right? What if they shit a kidney at $750? Then it's "of course this is including all of my travel expenses, food etc"..... still not playing then it's "I could drop the fee to $600 but I'd have to finish at midnight even if the party is in full swing which can be kind of disappointing for the guests" Get creative, you probably know your market better than me so you will know what levers to push. Wedding planners and party organisers in general often have much deeper pockets than you think... but you got to dig a bit to find out how deep. You gotsta be a playa maaaane.
  10. Anyone got any experience of the ESI U46 XL? Seems to be just about what I need and can afford. Anyone know if it can take a phono input for running a DVS or would I need to preamp my tables? (As it's an off offshoot of the "4DJ" it would make sense that it should take phono direct but I can't find that stated anywhere)
  11. What is the hot multi IO external card these days? I'm thinking at least 4in 4out. With MIDI posrts preferably.
  12. Alright so hows parallels on something that does work - say the 3.06ghz imac? Undecided if I'm going to run parallels or just stick to boot camp.
  13. You should still be able to buy applecare I think? Up to 12 months from purchase I believe. Might be worth buying seeing as your £35 for phoning them will just about cover it. I'm just about to buy a mac. It's not a fanboy thing - I need to run apple apps for work. Gonna go for an imac though cos I've heard too many stories about macbooks. Half the ones at my work are fucked after less than 18 months. They do get battered by students though. I have got a strange feeling that I'm about to be bummed by steve jobs if I buy an apple though.
  14. Press the record button. Drag a needle across a record. ffs
  15. Dope. that sample is str8 'wish I'd thought of it'.
  16. Oh lawd is dat sum back to the future sample?
  17. because watching him cut makes you shit yourself.
  18. Right I'm after a mix or two of soul funk type stuff. it's for a family/friends type party though so: - I want fairly mainstream type tracks. Not proper commercial type stuff and the tracks don't have to be well known but just nothing too leftfield and wigged out. - It doesn't have to be back to back full tracks but the tracks need to play through to some extent. No 10 second mixes or just looping the break for 30 seconds before moving on. - Minimum scratching/beat juggling. Preferably none really. Anybody know of anything that fits the bill? I've got a few mixes along these lines but nothing that's exactly what I'm after.
  19. Can't believe no one commented on this. I've only just seen it. It's really well put together. Not long enough though!
  20. Can't be as good as the original surely? Actually I want to point out that this picture is completely misleading. All I ever wanted from this game when I was 7 or whatever was to shoot ghosts like in the picture. But I'm sure I only ever got to that screen once. The game actually just seemed to involve some bullshit driving around in an ambulance with nothing going on.
  21. 300? I think you need to change the thread to 'whos cheap?' rather than 'whos good?' Not sayingyou can't get someone good for 300, but someone whos good and a crowd puller? No way. If you're stacking places full consistently your fee is going to increase. That's common sense.
  22. I've got a pair of etymotics. They're perfect for my requirements.
  23. I doubt an fx box would take a mic level signal direct. You'd have to pre amp it first.
  24. It depends what quality they want. Full on audiophiles would spend money on a turntable that makes the C1 look like its from a pound shop. But you need: A turntable, a cart, a needle. A phono preamp and an amp. The preamp might not be necessary if the amp has one built in (if the amp has a phono channel it's a good bet it has) Speakers or headphones. Connection cables. No need for a mixer unless they're going to be mixing. Or as has been said pick up an all in one music centre for nowt if quality isn't a major issue
