  1. I should add that if you have a very solid multi-input audio card, that you don't really need a big digital mixer. If you're confident in your audio card, then a good midi control surface is all you really need. I highly reccommend the BCF2000.
  2. It really depends on what kind of budget you're on. If you work primarily with ProTools, then I think the obvious choice would be the Digi002, which is absolutely fucking sweet. I've used it before and absolutely love it. A digital mixing board will be your best best in terms of flexibility and quality. If you need something versatile, i.e. something you could use when playing out as part of a sound stage/live audio rig, then go analog. But for studio work, digital is by far the best. Like i said, if you can afford it, go with the Digi002. On the other end of the spectrum, if you need the cheapest good quality digital mixer, the Tascam US428 USB would be a perfect choice. In between those two, I'd say go firewire if you can. Roland or Mackie would be good choices, as would Yamaha (though it would definitely be more expensive). Alesis is alright, but not my favorite, and I think that Boss mixing boards aren't all that great and tend to be slightly overpriced. If you're looking at just a midi control surface with no actual audio inputs, the Behringer BCF2000 is a wonderful fader-based midi control surface with motorized faders. Somebody say word.
  3. it looks clean but the fader area is too cramped. And having a "fast" fader isn't all that. The ffv1 takes the cake for fastest fader, but it's too loose.

  5. Yeah, and I don't really like the fader very much. It feels like plastic.
  6. I'm personally not a fan of the green (even picturing it done in paint), but it's your painting, so do what ya like with it.
  7. there are some very good prices to be had on the Stanton SA-12 on ebay, as well.

  9. cool sketch, but I don't like the dithered gradients in the second version.
  10. I can't speak for the XS-3, but you wouldn't want it anyway. I know that the XS-4 does indeed use the Ecler pro fader, and i believe that the XS-3 prob does as well. While I loved my XS-8, i dont think I'd ever by a 4 or 3. They're okay, but for a little more money you could get a much better mixer, like a second-hand Stanton SA series (excluding the SA-3) or a Pioneer 707 (and yes, kids, they're still available...for about $270 usd last time i checked).

    Chirp Flares?

ok, you're describing a baby dude, tears are pauses in record movement <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Babies are orbited.

    Chirp Flares?

I think i would know whether the description matched the audio.

    Chirp Flares?

One of us is misunderstanding the use of the word tear. I'm using it to describe any single direction record movement that's uninterrupted by clicks.

    Chirp Flares?

The notation is correct, it's just that the way i'm physically doing the cut is weird. Instead of just doing a click on the forward and a click on the back, I'm doing an orbit and a two-click fader motion so that the clicks are placed at the beginning of the forward and reverse strokes.

    Chirp Flares?

and btw a click and the beginning of the tear forward and the beginning of the tear back is exactly what's in the notation.

The Max Scratch sounds good to me. I wonder what Chile's response will be...
  19. Okay i finally figured out how to do the cut that i've been learning. It's some sort of chirp flare. You start by doing pretty quick orbits. You do a two click pinched flare movement with the fader, so that you chirp the orbit both forwards and backwards. It looks something like this: If you want to do the "pitched" version that i'm doing, i.e. varying the tears while clicking, then you have to do the same movement, but on some of the orbits, you have to tear twice as wide as the normal ones, but at double the speed, so that the clicks fall in the same place as the normal ones. It looks something like this: Is this just a normal chirp flare? or is there a more specific name?
  20. I can post the stripped down break. I don't know of anyone who has a copy of the instrumental that awkward made out of it.
  21. I was thinking about starting a "Who can do the best SASD imitation?" comp.
  22. I had a cut with Reezy last night. He's picked up those one-clicks from the master himself.
  23. You can do it without flash. Use the <embed> tag to add a piece of audio to a page. It will appear as a quicktime audio player. The code looks something like this <embed src="audio/song.mp3" height="x" width="x"> You can also add modifiers to the player by including them within the tag. Ones you might want to use include: autostart="true"/"false" loop="true"/"false"
  24. K-OS is pretty dope.
