It is simple, but you guys are forgetting the most important requirement of your sound card. It has to have ASIO support, with low latency. A stock card my not have ASIO support, in which case while you'd appear to be doing everything correctly, it wouldnt work.

A lot of intense graphic designers tend to use CRT's anyway because they're easier to calibrate and tend to have more accurate/natural color representation. For your purposes i'd say you don't need the digital input unless you're doing movie editing or watching a lot of movies on your computer.

I stopped doing house parties a while ago. They're too much of a pain in the ass. Buying and maintaining a rig is expensive and takes a lot of manual labor. Then you have to worry about people fucking with your shit and spilling things on it. I stick to clubs only now. It's so damn easy. You just walk in with some records and cd's, and play.

I actually think that's a fairly reasonable case. Consider that the volume of a lawnmower is about 80 decibels. Then up it by 20 and put it in your ear.
