  3. I had him as a guest interview on my new radio show CUTITUP, and I told him about that one thread on here where you guys list all the samples you've identified from Phantazmagorea, haha. We also talked about his recording process, guest DJs featured on his upcoming album, a trick that Q-Bert shared with him for recovering from scratch fuckups on stage, and a bunch of other stuff. The episode with his interview aired on Dash Radio earlier tonight, and is now archived in two parts on Mixcloud. You can listen to it here: https://www.mixcloud.com/CUTITUP/ Enjoy!

  7. I was going through some old files and I found this. It's terrible, but I thought I'd share it for a laugh. All 3 of us are called Steve, so it's Steve on the human beatbox, Steve rhyming, and Steve cutting. 😂 I was scratching on one of these hi-fi systems with one speaker unplugged, so the balance slider worked as a fader, along with a paper slipmat, which goes some way to explaining why the cuts are wank, haha: - Paid In Full LOL.mp3

  8. Craze booked us for his club night in Miami last night and we stayed a few days with him to get some studio hours in. We decided to make a quick routine using a track we wrote together earlier this year:

  10. I did a scratch music: My friends Silent Dust/none60 invited me to scratch up a track from their new LP, Listen To The Night, and I picked out 'Refuse', which features guest vocals by DRS. Rather than making a traditional one take routine, this time around I decided to make a multitrack scratch edit of sorts, scratching up many layers from the original track - so if it were to be performed there would be 4 or 5 of me performing different parts simultaneously. The video jumps between some of the various parts I used to create the full arrangement. It's been really fun making something less 'hype' and intense this time round - def something I want to pursue more! You can buy the original track, as well as the remix by Calibre on 12" now: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/silent-dust-listen-to-the-night-album/698779-01/ / https://www.redeyerecords.co.uk/vinyl/99927-nsy030-silent-dust-remix-calibre-listen-to-the-night-album-sampler

  11. A second Scratchbox. Basically unused as it was just used by Infinium to double check faders being sent out under warranty claims. Totally clean, all pots still sitting at their 12 o'clock 'new' position, etc. Delivered to my door with a couple of freebies, all for £200

  14. The man like Kutclass has cut a few of my DV beat battle tunes to 7" lathe for his Just Good Beats label. I just want to be there / The Middle is out now (also on digi) with a couple of other beats hopefully coming out sometime later this year. There's limited copies of the 7" so act fast, buy today* https://justgoodbeats.bandcamp.com/album/looms-i-just-want-to-be-there-the-middle It's a little dream fulfilled for me so major big ups to Kutclass and also DJ Rock Well for doing the battles, providing the dope samples and all you guys who take part. * There's probably no hurry actually

  16. Check it out, I made a 12 bar blues joint using nothing but samples from the SuperDuck Breaks record. It started out as a 2 bar loop that I came up with on my pedal, when I was messing around, and then I had the 12 bar idea and recorded it into my DAW. I hadn’t thought anything of it until I saw a recent post from Symatic announcing that SDB turns 20 this year and it now seems I’ve inadvertently created a 20th anniversary tribute to a scratch record! Oh well, I suppose it makes a change from a tribute to a classic hip hop LP or a dead rapper. Plus Babu’s a legend, so it’s all good!

  18. Sup guys, Thought it worth posting here - I started a podcast a few months ago called Once A DJ, talking to DJs and former DJs about all sorts of stuff starting with their backstories, and looking at how they’ve stayed active, dealt with getting older as a DJ, what made them Jack it in or view it different and much more. I’n terms of who I’ve had on from DV, I’ve had Jon1st and Vekked on, and from Turntablism, I’ve got a deep dive with DJ Woody coming out next week - think a lot of you guys would like that one. Got a load more interesting guests in the pipeline. anyway if you fancy checking it head to Linktree.com/onceadj or search it on your podcasting platforms… hope you enjoy!

  19. Hey Fellas After some deliberation I have uploaded my full 6 minute DMC World FInals set from last year, filmed during a practice session 2 days before the competition. Aside form the musical ideas for routine itself lots of thought went into this set behind the scenes -I programmed a module to hack the features of the Rane 72 to make it do stuff it can't do out of the box . Pad pitch shifting that is independent of cue-point triggering is a simple example with a ton of musicial potential .You can see this at work in the scratch routine with the Bobby Byrd horn riff at the 2 minute mark. The live looping composition at the end also uses pitch-shifting of continuous tones to create the melodies.

  20. Me, Alf of Hip Hop Slam, DJ Ragz and DJ Select have linked up maybe 3 or 4 times now for scratch sessions. The first time, it was really just your typical trading bars with a very limited amount of composition. The second time we started spending more time delving into composition, just making it up as we go along. By the third session we progressed into mostly improvising compositions, sometimes rocking over a drum machine, sometimes using beats from a producer named Unown (who Ragz worked with on his group the "Jazz Addixx") and sometimes using scratch drums as a base layer. Anyway, last week Ragz tells us that he gave the recordings to Unown. Turns out Unown turned the recordings (mostly the third session but also a thing or two from the second session) into an album. This was a really cool gesture and a nice surprise! If you want to check it out you can listen here https://vibejars.bandcamp.com/releases And just to be clear, there was absolutely no planning, no talking about what samples to use, and nobody even knowing who's going to do what at any given moment. We just hook up our turntables and vibe out for a few hours. Aside from some slop you get from winging it, I'm a little floored at how easy it is to make music like this. If you are into this type of experimental thing and have a few DJ friends I highly recommend trying this sort of thing out. Here's a little promo that Alf did: https://www.instagram.com/p/B_xpx8VAOPX

  26. There's a few main things that will greatly improve your scratching. #1 - Hand *flexibility* exercises rather than *strengthening* exercises. This is especially true with record control and within that even more true when it comes to more complex movements. #2 - Visualization of scratching while AWAY from your turntables. Progress of skills in sports has been shown to improve in studies where participants spent time thinking of their technique (scratching in your mind) rather than just rote exercise where you are just developing muscle memory and not actually developing an actual conceptual understanding of any technique. #3 - Slow and steady wins the race...meaning start with your most comortable SLOW tempo beat you can cut to and only increase tempos if you can EASILY achieve a pattern/technique at your current tempo you are learning at. Speed comes over time...dont expect this to happen quickly...takes months/years and is always a constant battle of refinement. #4 - NEVER compare yourself to others! Progress in any art is personal and the only person you need compare against yourself when it comes to progress is...YOU. Progress can halt or regress if studying/admiring others too often...make your goal to be better than the version of you last week/month/year. Some people have natural adeptness in learning or executing scratching...for example I'm left hand dominant on the record and have always had to work harder at fader speeds than control for this reason...but you may have a different path or level and that is PERFECTLY ok! That's all for now...just try to keep it fun and progress will just seem like play rather than work and happen faster in the long run.

  27. Yo! The first Promo is just 2 revolutions of my new Scratch Wax 'The Boss'. I will be uploading a new promo every week to showcase the samples that are on it, none to my knowledge have been used on other scratch records apart from the obvious (fresh & Arhh), Loads of drum, synths, bleeps and basses, with locked vocal phrases. We have spent over a year putting this shit together to try and give people some unique sounds to manipulate, we are very proud of it. We hope you all like it. No.1 - Mr. Wonderful (Death Star Drums) No. 2 - My man Technical J Flipping (My Selecta) No. 3 - Mr. Wonderful (Drop My New Style) No. 4 - Mr. Wonderful (Run Tings) No. 5 - Mr Wonderful (Brand new Plastic) Pre-Order - http://rhythmrollers.uk/The-Boss
