AndyHiams
Has anyone tried this out yet? What's the general consensus? It's only £1.49 so may as well give it a try think I can scrape it together.
Mutis Mayfield
I'm not sure but it seems no midi/hid control...?https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/traktor-kontrol-z2-compatibility-with-traktor-dj.189859/ Check before purchase it because djplayer will be better solution instead. ericuk
I've seen traktor working perfectly on an I-Pad, using an S2 MK2 controller. The software was more than £1.50 though
Mutis Mayfield
S2/4 mk2 and Z1 are fully supported (audio and midi) but Z2? Also check iPhone/iPad differences due maybe these units are only supported in the iPad version... AndyHiams
Thanks I downloaded but you are correct currently not supported on iPhone. Like you say Mutis the DJ Player app is very similar and free but hey ho. May be they will update it in the future.
Guest rasteri
I dunno why Native don't enable DVS control for the ios app, they'd destroy the fucking planet. I'd buy an ipad for fuck's sake and I can't stand apple products
Mutis Mayfield
I dunno why Native don't enable DVS control for the ios app, they'd destroy the fucking planet. I'd buy an ipad for fuck's sake and I can't stand apple productsIt's a good question... Why people don't use DjPlayer instead of? It works even on old iPad 1 models with dvs for 20€...I expect somekind of update for Traktor dj app but not sure about DVS implementation due it seems not so revenue in it.in other hand Djay Pro is a beast app too but no support for DVS neither. I think the scratch factor needs impossible low latency (never best than analog) and mixing djs have more than they need in those. So supporting DjPlayer seems the best path. Guest rasteri
I've actually been trying to find an ipad for djplayer but people want fucking £50 for a broken 1st gen one
Mutis Mayfield
Maybe it will be better expend a little to buy an iPad 2 or iPhone 4/4s Once you try DjPlayer, if the result is ok to you, you will want to try some synths or other apps which maybe need iOS 7 or above. Anyways don't waste too much for trying... My iPhone 4 was a gift (trash from a friend) and my iPad 3 (I don't recomend it nowadays because it was useful until the last year where it gets too much laggy) was purchased over 2013 as reburfished for 350€. Guest rasteri
Interestingly there's a dude who's done a partial port of xwax to android, I'd love to try and get that working. It'd bypass the android audio system so you'd get similar latency to an iOS device.
Mutis Mayfield
In the scratchML group was Dan Lee and Kyle Mcdonald trying to do something in this field and I point them towards the raspi satellite distro that I linked in the pt01 mod thread too. I will love to see something like this happen someday Not sure about Android route but this info should be helpful. Gàbor is trying too.http://superpowered.com/androidaudiopathlatency
Guest rasteri
Yeah I've read that article and the followup, it's a pretty bleak picture. I reckon you could bypass the laggy android audio system entirely and speak to the kernel audio drivers. Since android is based on linux, most phones use the standard linux audio API (ALSA) which might make things a bit easier. see : http://arunraghavan.net/2012/01/pulseaudio-vs-audioflinger-fight/
Mutis Mayfield
Once again (and offtopic end by my side because I haven't more resources in this direction than linked at pt01 mod thread...)http://wendyju.com/publications/satellite_ccrma.pdfhttps://ccrma.stanford.edu/wiki/Satellite_CCRMA_First_Steps If someone has the time and the knowledge to pursue this route (I haven't none of them) I think there are some resources at google drive shared folder (if not I will point them to anyone interested of course) but for the straight forward djs, iOS has all the tools done Edited May 29, 2016 by Mutis Mayfield
Guest rasteri
but for the straight forward djs, iOS has all the tools done Yeah that's kind of my thoughts, I'm not an apple fan but I don't hate them enough to spend hundreds of hours coding a low-latency android audio solution...
Mutis Mayfield
For sure! Back in topic Z2 is not midi class compliant... It has midi but requires a driver then not the best option for iOS.https://www.native-instruments.com/forum/threads/z2-with-ipad-will-both-audio-midi-work.187391/ So my advice for Z2 is better go the Windows tablet route (these similar to netbooks) with some optimization. I remember some choices not so expensive these days so they should be cheaper today.http://youtu.be/tp1XNAQSjuw In the middle path could be an S4 mk2 which works on desktop/laptop and also full featured in Traktor Dj App or another audio/midi (true one) like djm-t1 and DjPlayer. Hope it helps Op! Edited May 29, 2016 by Mutis Mayfield

Flexinoodle
Couple of FYIsDJPlayers developer recommends an Ipad Air original for DJPlayer use, not that it needs it (I have an iphone 4 out of somebodies kitchen drawer that pisses 3ms DVS but no DJPlayer pro on this phone) but it should future proof you for a loooooooong time. If you do go the Windows tablet route, VirtualDJ is killing it on a 8" £25 viglen connect here (Ebuyer daily deal) Traktor is too bloated for these lower end devices, but Virtual DJ is now heavily develooed by Adion of DJDecks and it is super slick and efficient, been running it in with a Hercules P32 for cue and sample juggling. Side note, picked up the p32 for a £100 a week before release (unwanted prize ha) best 100 i have spent in the last few months, tiny, built well, just works, everybody who has tried so far has either bought one or wants one, its the DJ equivalant of a gameboy haha
