for years everybody believed he built everything he used.

Thats what I always heard. Not EVERYTHING or that is was specifically built by him but that a lot was hand built and pretty fragile.

Take everything with a pinch of salt, he always bullshits about his gear, for years everybody believed he built everything he used.

I've heard he bought his first synths aged 13,then took electronics at comprehensive school and began modding as a result..obviously how true that is we don't know.

By bullshit i dont mean in a bad way, he enjoys talking shit to the press and them falling for it.

That's definitely true lol.

Aphex is an interesting dude,I think he describes himself on his Wiki page as an 'annoying, lying ginger kid from Cornwall' hehe..he's definitely unique that's for sure.

I saw him play live as Polygon Window doing Surfing On Sine Waves era stuff years ago and it was fucking magnificent.. obviously he's not for everyone but he's terrific when he's on point.. Squarepusher is another artist I also have a ton of respect for but that's another story altogether, kind of...

The music on that Four Tet album is boring as fuck in my opinion, the record he's talking about in the photo above is called 'New Energy' and sounds like a dull, watered down version of The Future Sound Of London.

😂 some of the responses to his post are superb - as is yours, mate

You *can* make some amazing sounds strictly using in-the-box options... but it's not even a quarter of the fun of doing it with all kinds of random noise-making shite and I'm pretty sure the enjoyment comes through in the end product

Hehe-I saw some of the response posts made at the time Pete, comedy gold !

I did actually think that it was pretty cool that Four Tet had made the record with the minimum of gear-It's just that the end result was disappointing in my opinion.

Oh,and while we're on the subject here's a photo of all the gear I used to record my own album over the last few months(faulty Sony Mini Disc recorder not pictured).. :((

Nice work - it's always good to see buttons with the writing worn off!

Ha-i need to post a more up to date photo..the numbers on those pads have more or less completely disappeared now!

Its amazing what Dan can do with that 404. Mastery of that device.

Thanks dude, that's a nice thing to say.

For me it's the resampling possibilities of that little machine that make it a joy to fuck around with, just combining separate elements to make up multi samples all in a single pad and applying the 404's dope FX is a lot of fun..plus the hallowed Vinyl Sim is superb of course..I love the mad shit it adds to drums and vocal samples especially.

I really liked my old SP-808 when it decided to work properly hehe-I've thought about getting it fixed up but I think I'd rather just have another 404 to run alongside the one I have already for some extra double handed fun!

Not wishing to get off topic by returning to the original post, but I'd absolutely lose my mind with just a single item of that kit list. My choice:

Serge Modular 9-panel
