Are you having issues with YouTube videos not embedding automatically when using Google Chrome?

I know Dirk is, but I can't figure out what the problem is.

I made a test thread using Chrome on Windows and with the editor in either mode, automatic embedding of YouTube vids worked fine. YouTube links have to be in a specific format for automatic embedding to work, but the format that Dirk is posting should work and works when I try it, so I'm not sure what's happening here.

If you use Chrome, please reply to this thread and let me know if it's working or not for you. If you need to make a test post with a YouTube link, you can do it in this thread.

I'm using Chrome on a Windows PC running Windows 7. I recently updated Chrome because I was forced to by certain streaming music sites and it *appears* this issue started around that time. Could be a coincidence but that's my only guess. I've tried posting Youtube links using the share button and copying straight fromt he URL bar but neither seems to work.

I'm running the latest version of Chrome, but on Windows 10.

I really don't know what's going on here. When you submit a post, it's scanned for YouTube links: -

  • It can be https or http
  • It doesn't matter if the www is there or not
  • It can be "youtube" or "youtu.be", so either from the address bar or the share option on YouTube
  • The URL has to end in the format, "v=XXXXXXXXXXX"

The links you're submitting fit the criteria, but it's just not working.

Are you running any extensions that might be interfering with it, such as script-blocking extensions? Maybe try disabling all of your extensions, see if it works, then if it does, re-enable them one at a time and do a test post until you find the culprit.

Ah maybe... Great suspender and AdBlock

I do include AdBlock. Try disabling it and see if that makes any difference.

I think uBlock Origin is the best ad-blocking extension, and for me, with that enabled, I'm not having any issues with Chrome, Firefox, or the new MS Edge Chromium-based browser.

But yeah, unless I can replicate the issue at my end, or people can give me specific info that helps me narrow the cause down, I can't really do anything about it unfortunately man.
