Steve
Trailer: - It'll be 200 quid in the UK and comes with 16 pre-installed games (list available HERE). It features Sanwa sticks and buttons and comes with Wi-Fi built in, enabling your high scores to be uploaded to global leaderboards. They're currently taking some flak due to advertising that it uses FB Alpha for the emulation, which is an open source project that explicitly prevents people from using it for commercial purposes. I'm not sure what I think of the design. It looks kinda cool IMO, but I'm not sure if the shape would make it feel a bit weird to use. Also, how often are you really going to use this to play 2 player games with another person sitting next to you?
TBearOne8III
capcom made some of the best fighting games, so i was already interested. i wish the buttons were not clear. i guess you could get used to it after you get your hand placement down. my other gripe is price of course. you can get a pandora 6 for cheaper with more games. you can switch the sticks out with sanwa sticks yourself. but if someone were to gift one to me, i would rock it. it comes out 3 days before my birthday too. yeah, that would be a nice gift.

Jam Burglar
My collection of classic arcade cabinets is up to 7 games now and I've learned to avoid fighters unless you have somebody to play against on the reg that's as into it as you are. I know tons of people who have them and they never get played because the owner wears out playing against the computer pretty quick and nobody wants to play the dude who owns the game and get thrashed over and over. So, this Capcom thing would be really cool if you could play head-to-head online (maybe that's possible, trailer seemed vague on that?) Even so, I've always wanted the arcade version of Ghouls and Ghosts. If they've ported it accurately I might be into it.

Jam Burglar
My son's finally getting to the point where he might like the fighters. We were playing some Tekken at the pizza spot the other week and he was all about it.
TBearOne8III
Nice. Man cave porn is always great. Video games and dj setups in the same room..... what could be better? All thats missing is the beer fridge. Sucks about the flood though. My room is upstairs in the small bedroom. I want to build a game cabinet but theres no room in here. All thats missing is the beer fridge. Sucks about the flood though. My room is upstairs in the small bedroom. I want to build a game cabinet but theres no room in here. They used to be a huge distraction from music (scratch for 5 minutes ... hmm, maybe I'll play a game of pinball). My focus has been better lately. If things like this Capcom stick will prevent classic games from getting gutted I'm all for em. The market for dedicated classic games seems like its starting to dry up. DK used be be $400-600. Now it's $1000-1200. The red DKs have gone from $800 to over $2000. I bought my Q*Bert fully restored for $1200. These days they're selling in much worse shape for $2,500. When a game was $400-$500 it was a lot easier to justify getting it. Now, not so much. A lot of that is because people were gutting cabinets for mulitcades (imagine gutting an SP1200 and putting raspberry pi in there). Now that you can buy more of these retro game dealies on the market maybe people will give some of the carnage a rest.
TBearOne8III
i looked into getting a restored cabinet and they were way to costly for me. especially just to have one game on it. i like those 1up arcade joints especially the new final fight cabinet. i just wish they were full size. but like i said, my space and money is very limited which makes this capcom stick and other sticks like the pandora 6 look good. Totally. "Restored" retail arcade games are usually ghastly overpriced. Plus the term "restored" is thrown around too loosely. Retail places rarely "restore" a cab. A lot of them strip out the CRT monitor, slap a computer in the cab and a cheap power supply and sell it as "restored" to people who don't know any better for $2000. LCD screens and standard rez classic arcade games do not mix well. Also, most games had dedicated controls that were specific to that game. It sounds cool to have 60-100 games in a cab but the reality is that Pac Man sucks on an 8-way joystick, it was built for a 4-way stick. Other games were built for 2-way. Q*Bert's is diagonal. There are roller balls, flight sticks, gas pedals, etc. etc. So, by the time you account for all that the multicade really doesn't even approximate the arcade experience anymore. So, why waste all that money on an emulation when you can get the same thing for $20.00 on your X-box, Laptop or whathaveyou? There are some middle-of-the-road solutions that work pretty good for multi-games. You can do a multi-cade with a handful of games with similar control styles. There are a few good multi-pcbs that play pretty true to the original hardware. Or, my Nintendo cabs both have PCB switchers in them so, for instance, I have DK, DK Jr. and DK3 PCBs stacked in my Donkey Kong cab so I can play all three games by holding down "player 2" and "jump" for 2 seconds.. It's all original hardware too so it keeps the analog sounds and no-latency controls, etc. I have similar set ups in some other cabinets. But yeah, I kind of feel like these Capcom sticks are actually a better solution for your average joe than trying to build a fake arcade cabinet. They don't take up space, they plug into your TV, you can store them away when you're not using them. It's not exactly like the originals, but they're close enough for most people. TBearOne8III
exactly. jam, you've just broke down a debate i've been having in my head for the past year. we (myself included) get caught up in getting more bang for your buck that we forget what actually makes sense. alot of games dont translate over well on a multicade set up.
