Bristol reggae dj- DJ Derek has been found dead

i knew him a bit and would talk to him for hours when he played out,or meet him in the town for a beer now and then

for those who dont know about him he was a reggae dj for over 40 years,he was a pioneer and a champion of a genre of music that i truly love

RIP- he was a real nice bloke

as far as I know dirk

I dont know if there are any

mixes around ... he was from a completley old

school way of doing things,he had one of those aincient double Dj consoles with the old style decks a Gerrard or something like that I think..he just kinda

turned up and played the tunes had a beer or two always friendly and always happy to share his knowledge of the music ,no bullshit and no snobbery involved whatsoever, maybe Sy will know if

theres anything...they did make a documentary about him for the community channel a few years ago ,so maybe its on youtube..ill have a look and post it if there is...cat used to go over to Jamacia to buy his records which was unheard of for a white dude in the early 1970s.

I remember he was on the festival circuit for a while. I saw him play about 10 years ago at the Big Chill festival and he often played in Oxford where I lived at the time. Completely unpretentious and good tunes. Happy days - sad to hear.
