Frost
Channel A on my S5 is well and truly knackered so I want to get use my 06 with Pro X Fade instead but can't find the power adaptor. Isn't there something around being able to use another power adaptor as long as the voltage is higher or lower or something and it's okay? Or is that amps? Does anyone have a spare one I can buy cheap or know where I can get a replacement cheap? Ta
DJ Rock Well
You might be able to use a general multi plug if the voltage isn't over 12 (some old Vestax are 12v, some 15v). Funnily enough, I made this exact same mixer this past weekend - there was an old, battered abandoned 06 in the cupboard where I work and last week I scored a Pro X Fade on eBay for £25. I put the two together and made a surprisingly good scratch mixer. I'll check the power requirements on the adaptor after work if someone else doesn't beat me to it. Frost
The manual says AC-14V I saw on the internet.
Guest rasteri
Isn't there something around being able to use another power adaptor as long as the voltage is higher or lower or something and it's okay? Or is that amps?Yeah it's amps - the voltage on the power adapter should be exactly what is required by the unit, but the current in mA can (and arguably should) be higher than what is required. HOWEVER - for some stupid reason Vestax decided to wire the plug so the center pin is negative rather than positive, contrary to every other manufacturer on the market. If you're using a generic power supply you'll have to make sure you set it up to take this into account, or you'll blow the input regulator. Never mind - you said it requires an AC-14 power supply, which as it uses alternating current the polarity doesn't matter. This'll do ya - http://cpc.farnell.com/stontronics/s2270st/ac-ac-power-supply-12v-0-5a-universl/dp/PW02818
DJ Rock Well
Looking on eBay, it looks like a 15V 500ma (0.5A) adaptor is what's needed, with the interchangeable different size plugs for the mixer end. Generic ones on Amazon for not too much money.
DJ Rock Well
If you've got the later built "06 VCA" with the -24dB bass EQs, you need the 14V. But all the older "06 proA" models with the -12dB bass EQs need the earlier style 15V ones. I've been through all this at the school with the old 06 I just resurrected.
DJ Rock Well
The manual says AC-14V I saw on the internet. If that info came off the Vestax site, don't trust it. Their page for the 06 specs is some weird amalgamation of the two different 06 models.
Frost
Okay, thanks for that both. So what's the sure fire method of IDing the version I've got then?
DJ Rock Well
Where it says it's name on the mixer by the led meters, does it say "pmc 06 proA" or "pmc 06 VCA"?
ericuk
I use a 12V adapter on my old 06. #YOLO
DJ Rock Well
Oh thanks Eric, now you're making me doubt my very existence. At the school we kept on getting the wrong voltage adaptor and it didn't blow up, but it kept playing everything a bit distorted.
DJ Rock Well
Actually, you've got one of the oldest Alps fader 06? They might have been 12v and therefore a 3rd variation. Frost - apart from the model name on your mixer, did it originally come with faders with solid 4mm stems, or the ones with two prongs at the top which always broke? Frost
Hmm...it says Pro-A on the faceplate and is just a single prong (love that word) of metal for the fader stems.
DJ Rock Well
In that case I'm sticking to my original diagnosis - 15V 500ma (aka 0.5A) multi adaptor with the different size plugs for the mixer which also have the benefit of allowing you to choose the polarity so it can be the right way round (like Rasteri said). Guest rasteri
Does it say anything beside the power socket on the rear of the mixer? Can you take a photo of the rear of the mixer for us? That might give us some clues.

DJ Rock Well
I know! Just being helpful... and what I was too lazy to write is that I could look at the specs on the power supply that came with the mixer which I still have)

Guest rasteri
Ras would you like an OG 07 to fix up? Hey! Do you mean you want me to fix your 07 for you, or you want to sell me a broken one? I'd probably be up for it either way.

Guest rasteri
It's likely the 15V model then. This should do the trick : http://cpc.farnell.com/ideal-power/25hk-ip18-a15/psu-desktop-plug-in-18w-15v/dp/PW02040 Make sure you put the little plug adapter on so the center pin is NEGATIVE.

Damn 2 prone design!
