Bubba
Ha...now I'd say that's a pretty clear statement...
Face Melt
i thought this might boost PS3 vs 360 sales but: "It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," said Xbox marketing manager Albert Penello when asked by Reuters whether Microsoft would support an Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive. "I fundamentally don't think ... this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus (Sony's) PlayStation 3," he added. Earlier on Tuesday, Microsoft officials said, "We stand behind our decision to offer the Xbox 360 owner an affordable choice to adopt HD optical media." Regarding Warner's decision to back Blu-ray, Penello says the HD war is hardly over. "You can't say it's not a bummer, not a setback, but I've seen this battle declared over so many times," he said. "I want consumers to have a voice in this and I think there are a lot of consumers who bought HD-DVD who are going to have a say in how this shakes out." Bubba
Yeah, however consumers choice can be dictated by what a market has to offer. If one of the biggest DVD sellers goes Blu Ray and most mainstream movies will only be offered in that format, then consumers are forced to buy a Blu Ray device...so it's a very nice statement Penello has dropped, however it's a bit naive in my view. Snobbery
Is there really such a difference between the two in terms of what the ending result is in DVD's etc? Cos if not then this battle will probably never end until the next bit of technology comes out and then it will be the final nail in the coffin for both of them. Steve
Is there really such a difference between the two in terms of what the ending result is in DVD's etc?I think as far as Joe Public is concerned, they're pretty much the same. It's just a hi-def version of a DVD to most people. "I fundamentally don't think ... this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus (Sony's) PlayStation 3," he added.I don't think it does now, because only 10% of people in the US have a HDTV. As time goes on and people start making the switch, it probably will though. A basic Blu-Ray player costs about as much as a PS3 in this country, but it depends how competitive it is price wise in a few months' time. Wax On
what's gonna happen about hi def porn then?
Steve
Toshiba have officially withdrawn from the "war" today. what's gonna happen about hi def porn then?It won't affect porn. It never did. I don't think it would have made any difference though, because back when video tapes were hitting the market there was no Internet. Wax On
i don't get it...are you saying people will make blu ray porn? cos i thought they weren't making any porn on blu ray not that i'll get a blu ray player until they're borderline redundant. Steve
i don't get it...are you saying people will make blu ray porn?Yeah, there was no reason why they ever couldn't. The point I was making though, is that back when video tapes were around, that was the main medium for porn to be distributed. Now everyone's got access to the web and that's packed full of XXX content, so even if there was never any Blu-Ray porn it wouldn't have had the same inpact on the format wars is it did with VHS vs. Betamax. Liam
i don't get it...are you saying people will make blu ray porn? Yeah, there was no reason why they ever couldn't Not strictly true, but the reasons why were severely misrepresented, people said it was a Sony ban and so forth. I saw this on Wired whihc clears it up: There are already plenty of U.S.-made adult movies on HD DVD, but until recently Blu-ray had made a limp start on both sides of the Pacific. Part of the problem is that Blu-ray backer Walt Disney Co. won't allow its movies to be replicated by any company that also presses porn. And until recently, all the disc stampers were owned by Sony subsidiaries. According to IDG News, Sony has sidestepped the problem by helping Taiwanese companies set up their own Blu-ray pressing facilities Makes a lot more sense
