Now they tell me there doubling it cause i waited so long + i got 2 months (£40) knocked off my bill . What speed will i be able to download films at ?? . How long will they take ??. Steve
To get the speed you divide by 8, so 2MB = 2,000 / 8 = 250Kbps. That's the maximum though so you won't always hit that. You can download a movie in less than 90 minutes if you hit top speed.

Liam
To get the speed you divide by 8, so 2MB = 2,000 / 8 = 250Kbps. That's the maximum though so you won't always hit that. You can download a movie in less than 90 minutes if you hit top speed.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> True; but in the UK we don't have synchronous connections. The very maximum possible on any BT telephone line is 256kbit/s up; ie 32KB/s. Since the bit-torrent protocol relies heavily on the UPLOAD speed, then 32KB/s is actually quite a good torrent download speed for any UK user. Some will occasionally go faster; that's just a matter of good luck (and an over-seeded torrent). For a 700MB rip at 256KB/s, you could potentially do it in ~47mins! But realistically, this is never going to happen. Besides, it would leave you no bandwidth for searching for porn and chatting on Skype about boomerang sckqriatches. A more reasonable estimate would be 6hrs at 30KB/s, which is still not too shabby. One thing ISP's never tell you is that unless you live next-door to the exchange, you'll never achieve 2Mbit speeds over ADSL... if your exhange is a few miles away, you'll probabbly be getting half that at best, although in a few areas they are upgrading the lines to support a maximum of 8mbit, in these areas the 2mbit performance will be a lot closer to 2mbit. My folks live a few meters from their exchange and I was stunnd to see just how fast their 2mbit runs.
Pand Malone
Yeah, the exchange is right next to me so i get full bollocks!
