my vote is the 1000. it's just a newer machine, a much quicker processor and more features really take it above the 2000xl. the only thing about the 2000xl is the ergonomics, and if large pads, tilt screen and more dedicated buttons do it for you (as they do for me), the 2500 is a nice buy too (the extra outputs are good too- although to be honest 6 outs is pretty good on the 1000 and another reason why it might be a smarter choice than a 2000xl). i had a 2000xl for a month, and although it's great, the new models are superior in my book. waiting 5-10 seconds for the waveform to draw on a sample, every single time, before you can edit gets long.

as has been said, drop your buffer size as low as possible from the get go, but then to get absolutely bang on latency compensation when tracking, place a tone on beat two in the sequencer, then run a cable from the audio out to the audio in and record it. zoom riiiiight in to single sample level and find out exactly how many samples you need to drag it to line it up. there will be a delay compensation option in the audio settings, put this number in and robert's your dad's twin brother's live in lover.

i tend to twiddle if a beat gets into that kinda territory. transforming with twiddles whilst tearing, scribbling, and general record movement is the order of the day if you want to fake it like me.

i lost one of mine when i had 447s and had it with only one screw for a year, hehe. it was fine really, the screw was tight and i had one of those little circle stickers holding the other side to stop any tiny movement. when you get another one don't forget to take your old one so that you definitely get the right one! don't 447s come with a tiny shure screwdriver? it's a 1.5mm philips head or something i think. if you've got dainty fingers you can just about get it tight without, but huge wanking spanner types might need the screwdriver- you'll find one for a quid or so at the same shop you get the screw from. hope this helps

use usb channel 1 (closest to the line in/out) and plug it directly in (no hub) or it won't work properly. i have no idea why, i assume it's because apple can't make computers properly. as each day goes by i lose more and more love for apple.
