  1. This is a forum where we should be able to voice our opinion. I have been honest with my comments and will stand by them. There is a lot of music and different styles out there, but sadly this did it do it for me, but 'hay hoe'. If I am to be totally honest I have seen and herd all these cuts so many times before and this is why I found most of the competitors a bit boring and predictable. Tags
  2. This was an honest vote. Me and my main Jue share the same point of view, hence J killing and it was not just me who thought so. I agree music is subjective hence us thinking most of these kats are wack. Enjoy your wine....
  3. I suppose I feel that people seem to cling to a particular style as it's the 'In thing', very DMC like. It started many years ago with DJ Cheese showing the way, then Cash Money and Craze etc. Then all we would see and hear for 5/6 years is the same style until some new comes along. Within a scratching point of view I am still hearing people trying to emulate Ned Hoddings 'jiggy style' which to be fair was very good and inspiring back in 2004 but still using this style now for me is not inspiring at all, 'played out' would be my choice of words. The art-form has suffered badly from this approach and is why I feel that scratching is in this stale and uninspiring position.. Given that I have been scratching for over 20 years and have performed with some of the best Hip Hop Dj's in the world I feel I have a great understanding of the art-form. I hate to say it but the the scene is full of followers not innovators, hence why they share a similar point of view. Tags
  4. I guess I must just have different musical tastes than other people, because I felt most of the videos were the same and did not show much tech, flow or musicality, but that's just life. Furthermore this is most proberly the reason I found the judging very cliquey as most of the competitors and judges have a like minded view. If I am to be totally honest I really hate DMC and most of the Dj's that enter it I think are totally wack... Tags
  5. I think the peer voting system should go!!! Personally I felt it was very cliquey and people did not vote honestly. I also think that to run a fair competition, clear and concise boundaries need to be set. I felt that Tech, flow and musicality were to vague and were lost in translation, as my understanding of tech and flow may not be someone else's, vice versa. It seamed to me that composition was the major factor within this competition, not tech, flow or musicality. Please do not get me wrong I think Steve has done an amazing job and would never want to discredited his efforts. This is just my humble opinion. Tags
  6. Sorry Steve, I spelt one of the Dj's names wrong so amended it, that's all!!! Tags
  7. 1 - DJ Ju-E 2 - Chimielix 3 - Redmist 4 - Itchi 5 - Jesus Kut 6 - Celsius 7 - Biox 8 - Chinmachine
  8. Ouch!!!! 78 files to watch this will take sometime to sort out my top 8. I do not know about you guys but I will be looking for record control, techniques used and flow.
  9. Hear goes!!! I agree that the second round beat is fine and I do not think that the beats would hold back any DJ's from 'showing and proving'. I have an idea that could make the competition a fairer test of ones scratching skills. I think that the competitors should be told which scratch sound, word or phrases to use as well as the beat. You could pick classic ones that everyone would have. This would mean that every competitor would be based on ones ability to flip that particular sound, word or phrase over the allocated beat. This would be a much fairer way to test a scratchers skills and you would clearly see the ones that would stand out. What do you all think? Tags
  10. I have just seen some footage of this (Community Skratch BBQ), dope cuts for sure Chile!!!
  11. Cheers for your help Mfsop, I managed to reduce the file size down although, the action script sadly did not work on my Adobe Flash Pro, something to do with it not being able to assign script to a character . The newly added stop button function kind of solves the mouse issue anyway so I am just about to upload it to 'YourLooper' and thats going to be the end of this test project. Thanks again dude!
  12. Hey mate, I have had so many issues making this looper it's unreal (not my speciality at all). I love making music and scratching but flash is very new to me. The loops I could not get to loop, they kept having a slight beat delay between the last beat of the phrase and beat 1, so my work-around was to put long Mp3 files in so all the loops will run out at some point and this is why the loopers file size is quite large too. So the link you posted above stating to use Wavs instead of Mp3's I hope would do the trick I will give it ago!! Also, I will give the Action Script you have posted ago and hope this may sort out the issues I have been faced with. I will let you know! Cheers for the feedback mate, I am glad you liked the design/layout and beats, I use that fast beat for my DV Freestyle Scratch Battle Round 1 entry. Thanks again...
  13. Hi Guys, I have added a stop button function to allow people to move the mouse around without the beats stopping as requested, although you will have to press the stop button between selecting a new loop to stop the beats from over running. I have exhausted all my expertise trying to write the correct script to stop the previous loop whilst selecting a new one, but have totally failed (headache), YouTube has let me down!! If anyone knows how to do this in Action Script 3.0 please share, I have lost even more hair trying to do this and would be very grateful... Tags
  14. Okay cool cool, it seams to be a general consensus, so I am going to delete this thread and sort out the functionality of the looper and post it back up in a few days. Cheers for the feedback. Tags
  15. I use a Adobe Flash (Mac) so this Zozl's tutorial is not appropriate, but thanks. I do not understand why this effects ones ability to scratch or to use this looper? You do not need to use your mouse at all you can just select the Tab function and scroll throughout the beats. If you want to record yourself scratching just press record before hand in (Logic or any DAW) and then simple press your chosen beat. We have been using this looper for a few weeks now and with both of us having over 20 years scratching experience we are very happy with the functionality of this product. This looper was designed with a solo purpose for people to scratch over, nothing more.
  16. Hi Guys, I have now uploaded our looper on to: http://yourlooper.com/# Enjoy! YouTube Preview http://youtu.be/ImaMxs8-dGw
  17. Yes Broke that was intentional, we didn't want the beats to overrun and thought this was a good solution. Cheers for downloading!

  19. I have just sent Steve my early entry. Who else is in?
  20. All sounds great Steve and it looks like you have some good ideas. I do like the fact that you are going to "keep it real" a very important factor indeed and I also think that the "public's favourite" voting suggestion is another good idea too. Regarding the FB page moderation, you can apply specific filter settings to pick up and block specific key words and stop all profanity if needed. You can also invite other people as moderators to help on the page. The diverting traffic away from DV issue I totally get, as an idea what about, only using the FB page as an information only page, no comments (if comments can be disabled), then have a direct link to DV site where people could post comments? That may increase the flow of traffic. I hope that helps! Well, good luck with everything and look forward it seeing the your developments in action later on in the year and let me know if I could help in anyway.
  21. Hi Steve, I am all for pushing the art form to a wider audience, but I personally think that the battle should stay on the DV site. It seamed to work well the last time in my opinion and as the old saying goes "If it an't broke, don't try and fix it". A new website would make it more appealing for sponsors which would create better prizes for competitors, but as you said Steve a lot more money and work for you and the team, is it worth it? and my fear is that these things always seam to end up too commercialised and loose their underground feel. I suppose we need to be honest with ourselves and if we believe their is a bigger demand for this section of the art form to be showcased then it needs to be pushed, but from my opinion the mainstream/general public are not interested in scratching the slightest, it's primarily just for the 'heads'. Just another opinion to chew on Steve.
  22. Props to everyone involved and for making it happen, it's great to see this side of the art form showcased, bring on next years battle. Pz
