  1. Is it red? It might be a PC Chips M810LMR, for a while they were being knocked out for under £10 and featured onboard audio and gpu so they were very popular with cheap system builders. I know my ex's dad slanged hundreds of these on ebay back in the day. If it's not that it might be an ECS (Elitesys), also very popular with cheap system builders. I've had a few ECS boards and they were okay enough.
  2. I think their comments about the Numark brand image are a bit misleading. On the whole, you don't hear many negative comments about the Numark brand in relation to the TTX so I'm really not sure where they got that idea from. Not a mention of the all too frequent failures, or the equally excellent and sturdier feeling ST150, either. The Technics probabbly ought not be considered in this category; they are quite literally in a class of their own and the only way other manufacturers have clawed back a decent chunk of the market has been to adopt a different approch. As for the 909, I suppose it's a fair comment to single it out because nothing out yet quite does the same. But I couldn't overlook the comment that "if you take the top half of the Pioneer away, it will still clean up" -no, it won't. That's all that sets it apart from mediocrity. Nice to see some deserving classics coming in again, as they do year in year out; the X:62 and 25's.
  3. Have you not just answered your own question, lol! If you're unhappy, change back.
  4. It's hard to say exactly without knowing what specific parts, case etc. you have. Just rest assured that even if you'd bought all the bits yourself and put it together DIY, it would have cost you a good couple of hundred more minimum. You got a wicked bargain there.
  5. Also, does the Wii need any pot adjustments like the GC? My modded GC had trouble reading the cheaper DVD-R's I had, but a little tweaking of the laser pot allowed it to read everything I threw at it fine.
  6. TB, when I've bought modchips in the past the wires were pre-soldered. Also, bear in mind that new Wii's have legs clipped from the chips to prevent soldering of modchips.
  7. Good prices on both: http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/124869/rb/0 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/125325/rb/0 £338 + £182 = £520, just for the CPU/GPU. At £600 you got an absolute steal there, trust.
  8. That CPU and GPU would more than likely cost more than £600 to buy alone. I think YOU pulled a fast one on THEM, lol
  9. OK, I'm officially gonna WTF this one -how on earth did this PC cost £600, that GPU alone will cost you the best part of £200 anywhere you go
  10. I know I'm going to open myself up for attack here... but go get WOW. There's a 10 day trial online, and the game itself is only like £9 now with 30 days. I tend not to admit that I've actually played it because people think you're some kind of recluse with a pixie fetish, but in all honesty there is a very good reason why people smoke it up like crack -it's not just the most well-rounded MMO ever, it's also one of the most polished and complete games ever made. Plus provided you have a fair chunk of RAM it'll run on almost anything. Don't worry, I've not sunk months of my life into it -but I easily could. The South Park episode was absolutely hilarious, I loved it -but it's wrong, you can only get killed like that if you choose a PVP realm where you are always open to combat. Ahem.... moving swiftly on from the uber geekness Yeah about Gears not being FPS. I think I could at a pinch add Max Payne to that list. Nothing before it had really managed to translate FPS gameplay into third person perspective, and it did make for a new style of play. I guess the bottom line is that in retrospect you can pick out lots of these games, but in real terms they are few and far between. I didn't list Quake on the list because I was talking mold-breaking, whereas Quake forged the mold itself. Speaking of which, have you played the QuakeDS homebrew yet? Sickness
  11. Does Serato not offer a custom pitch range? DJDecks does that right off the bat. Weird, I always assumed it would. It's not exactly the hardest of functions to impliment, I'm quite shocked if it's not there in an obvious form. Hmmmmm That's terrible about Numark's attitude. The thing is, although companies regularly screw you over on '12 month warranty' periods, the truth is that this isn't a legal cut-off point, and actually products should last a 'reasonable length of time', which is (neccisarily) quite vague, but should cover you in the event of any manufacturing defect. Given that this problem is suffered by so many TTX and TT500 owners, plus Numark have revised their designs to accomidate the problem, I'd say you have a strong case. You might be fucked because of the DIY fix you did previously, but on a more widespread level it would be very nice if Numark did something about it. Considering that it's a trivial fix on their flagship turntable, I feel they've missed an opportunity to support their users and build a real sense that they care for the DJ community. In the automotive industry, recalls are actually a recognised technique of establishing brand loyalty, and some companies have even been known to hold 'recall parties'.
  12. I'm going to guess vinyl control is providing the indication here. And he knows about the chip (that's the IC he refers to in the post) Hassle Numark. These are known issues; in essence manufacturing defects. They really ought to be obliged to repair them out of warranty for this reason -it can't hurt to try anyway. Seems like there is no end to these Numark TT issues, such a shame. My Techs will break double figures soon I honestly can't rate any feature a turntable has over the Tech as highly as the reliability. Seeing as you've had TT issues I'm sure you'll appreciate the build all the more. If you want an accurate reading of your TTX's 0%, why not make a pattern in photoshop and print it out, then view it under any household lightbulb (50Hz strobe). A bit of simple math and you should be able to do it no sweat. Always good to have a second opinion.
  13. Meh First of all, I don't understand the fuss over the GTA series. GTA3 was a nice, novel translation of GTA into a 3D realm... but was it any more? It was a clever mash of existing ideas. Did the subsiquent games really add anything other than 'more of the same'? The funny thing is that World of Warcraft is in many respects the same game as GTA, only executed with whole volumes more depth. But because the setting and context are changed considerably, people don't pick up on that fact. As for Gears... don't get me wrong, I enjoy and have played a LOT of FPS in my time. But is there a genre more stagnant? If there is one type of game that desperately needs a kick up the arse, it's FPS. The last truly mold breaking FPS games were probably Half Life and Goldeneye. And both of those games had appeal to those who might not normally play computer games. I love what the DS has done. It's a pick-up-and-play format that everyone from my friends and brother right the way up to my aunt and grandmother can enjoy. There's the hardcore Castlevania titles for the old schoolers, and the Brain Training and Zendoku for those who'd never normally touch a control pad. Give your DSlite to any non-gamer to have a bash at and watch them get absorbed, resent having to hand it back then go and buy their own... part of that is the intuitive format, part of that is the 'impulse buy' pricing. You gotta love it. This is what Square are getting at... universal appeal. Time for gamers to come out of the darkened room and get social with it, up until now gaming has been very insular.
  14. Saying what we're all thinking IMO... I really couldn't agree more. I do not believe that new technology adds anything to gaming, only new ideas. It's true to say that the hardware needs to be developed to realise this potential, but I really don't see what positive additions have been made to 3D gaming in recent years. Iterations of the same concept with a little more lustre have been almost all we have seen since the PSX dominated. And whilst I applaud Nintendo for innovating with the Wii, it's hard to see where the concept will go in serious terms, outside of the 'novelty gaming' value. I dearly hope that it makes gaming much more intuitive and engaging across the entire scope, but only time will tell...
  15. Anyway, CPU-Z says you have 4096MB installed. CPU-Z is gospel truth. I've got a nasty feeling you might have an IGP actually...
  16. No. GPU memory is entirely seperate from system memory. Don't equate the two, they have nothing to do with one another. The GPU ram is used simply to store graphics data, mainly textures, for ultra-fast access by the GPU *without* the system memory being used. This removes the overhead of passing this data back and forth through the graphics bus, which would slow things down like crazy as well as using up CPU cycles handling it. IF and only IF you have an integrated graphics card (IGP) which forms part of your motherboard chipset ("onboard graphics"), then some system memory is allocated to graphics. You'd be mental to use integrated graphics on a high spec system. Do you know what graphics card you have? Look in device manager. Make sure it's not an onboard graphics system.
  17. Oh, and I belive Vista requires 512MB, but bear in mind that it will use more if it is available, just like XP will 'run' on 64MB, but likes at least 256MB ideally 512MB or more. Vista is best with at least 1GB, ideally 2GB. If you're doing ANY audio work on there, get XP and dual boot. Very few sound card manufacturers have decent ASIO support working under Vista yet, the entire audio stack has been rewritten.
  18. That's seriously cheap. Quad core chips run very expensive, have a look around.
  19. CTRL+ALT+DEL under Vista brings up a set of options; one is task manager. Check the processes and how much memory they are using. Fuck it though, if you have a lot of RAM then as I say Vista will use it Half a G as in five or six hundred quid on that chip. I see what you say about 'not going out of date', but it's a pure false economy in that respect because you could spend less than half as much on a chip now and the same again in two years and buy a much better one... meh, if you've got it flaunt it but fucking hell mate, you turn over a post office or just got loaded (and gullible) parents
  20. Quad core CPU? You've got half a G to drop on a chip?!? That's as much as I'd spend on a whole rig. Questionable benefits too seeing as few apps are optimised for dual core let alone four... you really need that? I reckon you've spent more on that PC than I have on my last six cars combined... Anyway, as FP says the HD industry switched to using 1000 rather than the hex approximation of 1024 a long time ago, so no there's nothing wrong there. I would suggest taking a look at your RAM, I don't believe you've been 'ripped off' as the number you quote is very odd; 2GB or 4GB would be very usual since it's very uncommon to fit anything other than matched pairs to take advantage of dual channel memory bandwith gains. It sounds like you're quoting available memory rather than total physical memory. Vista does use a lot more RAM at all times since it has much more sophisticated background prefetching which speeds up things like application launch times considerably. CPU-Z is the don dada: http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

    Save Banksy

^^^^ LOL, did not know that... quite encouraging to hear, actually. The bit about leaving it, that is -not the gross incompetency

    I could not agree more
  23. Does it blow fuses? Was the old fuse blown when you took it out? Checked any internal fuses? Sudden current spikes are what generally trip circuit breakers, could point to an earthing fault or similar, which would most likely blow a fuse, yeah I think it's quite likely if the current has spiked rapidly enough to trip your mains, the mixer will not be in good health. Talk to Ecler immediately about this one if I were you
  24. Apparently the scratch world is short on multimeters innit
