  1. A toblerone lamp instead of a lava lamp?
  2. Got myself an edirol v4 video mixer for 100 swiss francs. I always wanted that mixer (I got the pioneer DVJ-X1 DVD-Scratcher and other sources to plug into it), but I was too expensive when it came out...
  3. Keep DV alive I say! I don't use social media at all. I still am a forum-rat. I would like it, if some peeps would pass more from time to time (where is Dan Swift?). And a dream would be of course, that the forum is again like it used to be from 2004-2009ish, but that's unrealistic (Social Media took a lot of our users since they can promote their stuff better/directly over there). I will try to contribute a little bit more (was super-busy with them 2 kids of mine and wifey is quite active career-wise, which leaves more taking-care-of-the-kids-time to me as well)... Thanks for keeping it alive and all the effort you put into it Steve.
  4. I think that was a pretty universal reaction. With "Hey Ladies" being the lead single and disco being the furthest thing from "cool" at the time I remember being like "WTF happened to these guys?" When Check Your Head came out I went back and listened to Paul's Boutique and got really into it. I saw Mike D and Adock do their live show for the book tour last April and they had this thing where they had all the unsold boxes of Paul's Boutique records stacked up. Just thinking of all those brand new, 8-panel copies of that record sitting in boxes ... worth a lot of $$$$ these days. There were some early tracks that the Dust Brothers did prior to linking up with the Beasties (Shake Your Rump, Hey Ladies, Car Thief, and I think one more) but the Beasties worked pretty closely with the Dust Brothers on producing the rest of the beats of the album. People tend to think Rick Ruben did the beats on Licensed to Ill, the Dust Brothers did Paul's Boutique, and that Mario C did Check Your Head and Ill Communication, but in reality the Beastie Boys had a LOT to do with the production of all of their albums. Always super fresh when the MCs are involved in the beatmaking process as well
  5. My first two records were PE (Yo bum rush and Fear of a black planet) Then on the second record-shopping-trip I bought Paul's Boutiqe and Edutainment by BDP. I really like it right away. And even to this day I can listen to that album. The Dust Brothers did a phenomenal piece of art on this one...
  6. I told myself to not buy anymore gear this year...but looks interesting. Has anybody copped one of these 808-Behringer-Clones?
  7. Maybe Dan Swift will come up with his own blanks made of Marmite (Beats, Breaks and Scratches on Marmite Vol. 1-10...watch out Simon Harris)...
  8. Flo Kaufmann used to press all of Switzerlands Vinyl releases. He also produced the Lathe-Cutter which you could put onto a modified SL-1210. This guy knows his craft.
  9. I once bought the Private Practice bundle (with that sexy 7" record box). Good price but I liked it... But I'm not sure about him since he dropped the outsider musicwise.
  10. I meant (or I guess) a lot of Scratch Live Users switched to Serato DJ (I didn't because I got a TTM-57sl and I still prefer Scratch Live to Serato DJ)...
  11. Still using Serato Scratch Live in 2019 is sexy very sexy
  12. I live near the "city" of Biel/Bienne in Switzerland. It's one of the most active cities hip-hop-wise in the better times (1986-1999). A lot of jams took place. We had concerts from groups of western Europe (Hijack, Gunshot, Silverbullet, IAM, NTM etc.) and the states (Ultramagnetic MCs with Kool Keith only wearing underwear while being live on stage comes to mind). So there was this record and equipment store in the old city area of Biel called "Downtown Store". The guy who runs it, was the type of record-dealer, that always knew what your taste was and would always give you the right stuff to listen to from the latest arrivals. I bought all my equipment there too. And during 1996-1999 I worked at Swatch in Biel. So every lunch-break was hold at the record-store. The owner was also involved in the before-DVS-came-out-Device which André Rickli invented (the one that the RZA tried to market through WU-Music). And we hung out privately as well. And that guy was also there to help me, during my only harsh breakup with an Ex I had. He ended up selling the store to a guy (a Goa-DJ) who used to work there. The guy quickly went bankrupt and repo-men auctionend all the records/equipment. My buddy the owner/founder went working in the IT-Department of a famous german online-sexshop (better money, safer situation).
  13. Trump used to rent his venues in his hotels to the UFC for their event. He was also affiliated with "Affliction banned" which was also holding MMA-Events. If his logic would be coherent, then they should ban MMA and Boxing (any contact-sport)... But I'm sure he already forgotten what he said... It's like the first chancellor K. Adenauer of the newly created "Germany-Incorporated" aka Western Germany, once said: What do I care about the gibberish I babbled yesterday (pretty much Trumps Mantra)...
  14. Did you purchase the mahagoni-edition or the gold-plated one?
  15. I've been there since 92. In the movement-making company from the Swatch Group, which also created and produces the Swatch Watch. I once mentionned that I work in the watchmaking biz. So it could either be Swatch Group or Rolex.
  16. Post a pic of the Swatch! I was at our head of Heritage/Museum of the company i work for (we produce/create the Swatch Watch). She showed me a classic model, with these 3 chimps holding their mouth, ears and eyes. Only 3 were made. One for the Big Boss one for the museum and it seems the 3rd got stolen and was sold on the black market. I try to make a pic
  17. I think once you edited the TOC, the discs wouldn't run on other brands player. I think if you edited your MD on a Sony you could read them discs on other brands but not vice-versa. DVD-Players are all capable to run on Code 0, but were delivered/programmed with the correspondant region code. So the weird unlock code was used on the dvd-players...
  18. I just installed my md-player in the garage so that I can listen to old mixes I've done, when working on stuff. I loved about MD, that the sound-quality was good, the casing of the discs and the edit-mode.
  19. I just bought a Stanton ST100. I'll use it for sampling and digitizing vinyl. It only cost 60 swiss francs including shipping.
  20. I once learned that a digital file is only an existing digital file if it's stored twice... What's your backup routine/setup? I got duplicate copies of all my harddrives and a copy in the cloud. So 1 duplicate of all the data is stored at home and the other in the Musicstudio in a Safe. Plus the cloud if ever both places burn down. I actualise/update the content every 2-3 months
