  1. saying you are "born" with funk is like saying you learned how to draw just by thinking what it probably looks like, instead of actually observing the thing you're trying to draw. maybe thats a far fetched idea. edit: so i think basically you dont get it off the bat but either you can develop it or stick in the same rut doing the same crap over again. but im part of the second group so maybe im wrong
  2. the rane faders too heavy for ya? work on them wrist muscles. im jp but i hear the spring mod on the 56 will suit your needs as long as you dont screw up the magnets
  3. i dunno about you guys but if i was watching this i think skratching would be the last thing on my to do list
  4. well the same reason people are switching from the technics mixers to vestax or ranes or what have yous. i heard the cutoff on the technics was a lot better but the fader took a beating after a month or 2 sponsors? large amounts of expendable income?
  5. yes. but having the best fader doesnt give you skills. there are guys that can cut really well on numark or the basic vestax mixers much better than guys that use ranes or eclers (guys like me lol). do stunt drivers learn on mustangs and ferraris? no they practice on shit boxes....kind of a bad analogy. its what you do with what you got
  6. better faders dont make you better at scratching unless the one you use costs 5 dollars
  7. maybe thats where ive gone wrong. ive had my hands too warm and ive been practicing sober...
  8. i couldnt find any online stores that had superseal. had to get my copy off ebay. i like it better than the y record, maybe cuz most of the shit on there really isnt scratchable. damn you hoga frog edit: damn you beat me steve
  9. well the hole for my butter rugs are getting a bit big, that a major deal? the thing that makes me notice that its even a problem is the same records same surface same needle setup on my PDX skips more than it does on my technics mk2 and the reason i wanted a pdx was so it skipped less? lol but yeah i checked out a pdx model at the store and it does wobble but its not like mine. its more 'smooth' when it does it while my platter jerks around more
  10. stylus is broken in. its on a sturdy surface. firmly screwed to headshell, but not too tight. record isnt too bad. i think the problem is although it happens when the needle is closer towards the spindle, when its closer to the edge of the record it is much worse. without a record or slipmat if i push on either side of the platter gentl it "bobs" quite noticeably. platter wobble problem? do you think i can fix this by myself or should i send it in to the US supplier? or is this normal.
  11. i have my tonearm set at a little above level height, 3.5 grams. shure m447's. when i barely touch the record to stop it (when the platter moves) the stylus jumps a couple or mroe grooves. is this normal? i have the cart set correctly to my knowledge (flush with the end of headshell)... i know its not the table. its not perfectly stable but its very good (FE not a card table) it only sticks decently when i set it to 5-7 grams and i fear it will screw my records. thanks. EDIT sorry prolly shoulda gone in "dj help"
  12. i was gonna say...shit ill never get my wrist that fast. i can get decent orbits with twiddle but the thing is i cant really combine it with other techniques...which is why i wanna work on wrist style but its kinda tough.
  13. you do orbits twiddle style or wrist style steve?
  14. that sound file was tight nino. please tell me youve been doing this 20 years
  15. i was wondering why napster and kazaa got so fucked and yet limewire and winmx were left unscathed
  16. same man, after my shure needles fucked up the concordes look rather nice, ive always kinda preferred the complete needle/cart idea anyways cuz i have a sneaking suspicion i have no idea how the hell to correctly set a headshell. if this turns out to be decent enough for Q and not just for money/hype count me in
  17. sorry i meant to say style/funk and techniques dont coincide
  18. i think one of the most pigeonholing things scratch dj's have done is scratch nothing but ahh and fresh. sure it helps to get new techniques but if everyone here is saying they don't coincide surely we should just change the damn samples we use?
  19. only thing i woulda changed about the qfo is instead of the line faders be up (as in tangent to the platter) maybe have one line fader as it is and have another one parallel to the crossfader. because the position of em is so goofy you either gotta be anorexic or really tight at upfader cutting
  20. its not those cheap ones they sell at radio shack right
  21. i dunno, 30-40 bucks for needles. thanks deft i was getting real worried. the sound quality was slightly affected but not a whole lot. that was the name cantilever! hah thanks.
  22. the ones that bent are on my techs. one on my pdx is fine so far..
  23. thing is i usually use 3.5 grams. well within shure's suggestions. and i recently bought new needles (say within the past 5-7 months). my last needles lasted fine for more than a year.... edit: yeah that part. it was almost completely horizontal though. and how the needles did the same thing within a few days baffles me because i often scratch without any beat or anything? maybe im accidentally letting the needle hit the moving platter by accident?
