  2. Just played through Untitled Goose Game, which was really fun (but q short) and about to start on Persona 5 Strikers, which is a hack and slash meets rpg spin off sequel of the Persona 5 RPG game made in collaboration with the team behind Dynasty Warriors.
  3. Thanks for listening! Re: samples - we mainly used samples for vocal chops and the narrator/'GOALS' tag etc. a couple of the tunes have breaks and affirmations has some samples but everything else is played in - ian plays guitar, bass and keys, we all play synths etc and i played harmonium on the harmoniums track. we use drum hits either from sample packs that are processed or sometimes sample too.

IG Allows you to upload IGTV videos (videos longer than 1 min) via their website on computers now but for shorter videos I believe it can only be done in the Mobile app. In terms of exporting I do most things as standard hd dimensions and it doesn’t crop if you select the wide screen expand arrows when uploading on the app. I think the only exception is for ‘reels’ (ig’s answer to TikTok) which has to be exported in portrait I believe.

  7. both are upgrades from the S9 - both has USPs - the S7 has the bluetooth link for loopers etc and some uniqe midi fx. S9 has more effects, the touch screen and 3/4 deck modes, and I believe better outputs/phono inputs

Doing 'just routines' or being a incredible freestyle scratcher has not been a career path for many in the time I've followed turntablism (Qbert is the only person I can think of who can be a draw and command decent fees for just being an incredible scratcher) without combining it with additional skills or providing a service for a more established act with a budget. E.G. gaining a following for performing your original music with turntablism (which in turn means also being a producer or working with one), becoming known as an exceptional club DJ who incorporates turntablism (but even then you really need to be a producer to gain that interest) or creating a truly unique live show, playing a role in an established artist's band or as a tour DJ and getting to do some scratch parts. There's still money in making scratch records, particularly for the portable scene, but then again that involves some production and mixing/mastering engineering knowledge. I think this is kind of the same for any musician - you either provide a service for someone else's project (granted that the opportunities will be fewer with turntablism) or you have to be writing original music and cultivate a fan base, or be able to entertain people on a functional level (I guess that's being a club DJ to some extent), else you're just good at playing an instrument and the differences between you and someone else on a similar skill level won't be really noticeable to Joe Public. I know a few people who do this full time, including myself, but they have ridiculous work ethics or have been doing it for so long that they have huge followings, but pretty much all of them do a bunch of stuff and have various projects - but that's also quite an interesting part of 'the job' as it's constantly changing and with new challenges. Also contrary to what I consider popular belief that only us scratch nerds want to see routines - audiences are super down with routines or quite nerdy live shows as long as you know your audience. Pre- pandemic, Shield and I were on really good fees in the USA and getting booked for festivals for doing essentially an hour + of routines with original music we'd made.
  9. Thanks dude! so basically we wrote the set and worked out who plays what and then we recorded our respective parts and I edited it all together. We used the same camera equipment to try to make it look as similar as possible too.

  12. There's a special edition which has a faceplate that looks like old 909 mixer but no gold. S11 upgrades on S9 (there's no downgrades) - Screen for waveform displaying, controlling fx, touchscreen fx combos, controlling the 3/4 decks and browsing your library, setting all your saved fx banks etc + general mixer settings that you'd have to do in Utitlity Software on the S9 -3/4 deck mode - allows you to do multiple deck mixing and nudge/hot cue/loop/adjust levels etc of these decks with screen + you can control a physical deck and a digital deck with vinyl - so you can scratch both tracks with one deck, adjust pitch, do a wheel up, use eq and channel fader etc. it's actually really inventive and innovative imho and the biggest feature for me - split pad modes - you can have up to 4 pad modes at once - you can now chain 1 hardware effect with up to 6 software effects plus the filter - again can be combined with the touchscreen x/y pad - smooth echo allows you to assign an automatic timed echo (synced up to the bpm of the tracks) when you pull down the channel fader, or cross fader, or you can assign it to hot cues and other stuff - more effects customisation - makes it way easier to adjust things like resonance, filter settings on delays etc - scratch bank mode - allows you to have loads of tracks set to pads that you can load in quickly with the mixer - you could use this for scratch samples, or loading beats in a routine for example - then there's all the pad modes like tone play that the S9 didn't have but newer dvs mixers did - better audio quality and improved fader and bigger/better pads - it's slightly taller because of the screen and now the trim pots are above the eq like most other mixers - there's more recording routing options too when used as a soundcard

Pioneer just announced a new DVS mixer. im obviously going to be biased because I worked on the project but it’s honestly got so much sick stuff in it - 3/4 deck mixing on a scratch mixer, being able to load preselected scratch sentences or tracks from the mixer pads so you don’t waste time going through playlists when mixing, loads of new effects routing and pad mode splitting etc. ill have a new routine and walkthrough up with it on the pioneer channels soon but if anyone has any questions I’m happy to try to answer. I’ve had one since July so know it pretty well now :

  15. This guy I'd really recommend if you don't know him already. He's been more widely known for a couple of years - mainly plays all funk/hiphop sometimes house and disco 7" sets with loads of trickmixing. In terms of battling I'd say P-Nuts new DMC set is the most inventive routine I've seen for a minute, or Vekked's recent showcase set for Cut To Cut, or Kutclass's musical routine for the Cut To Cut Finals
